Need to really start picking up wins against these midtable sides if we’re gonna have a playoff charge
Funnily enough, all 4 teams that started the day in the play off positions, lost today.

Hard fought point, well done lads.
    Decent debut from Collins.
Jones got his head to pretty much everything.
    Leaburn looked back to form.
Carey can keep shooting whenever he wants.
    Up to 17th.
    Breaking the 40 point barrier.
Can't think of any negatives. Don't worry too much about what other team's do, we can't control that.
    Roll on Tuesday.
  • In fairness, Southampton looked a class apart for most of the game.

But what we lacked in class today was finally more than made up for the heart and endeavour the team showed particularly in that last 10 minutes of injury time. Every player gave 100% in that period to hang onto that point that could be so valuable.

Hard to pick out anyone in particular but Bell was outstanding throughout. Just pray we can keep him fit.

And praise once again for Docherty. OK he's not the greatest passer of the ball but he was everywhere today, constantly tackling and winning the ball.

Wrap them up in cotton wool for the next couple of days please NJ and then let's get a result on Tuesday.

Jones is an absolute monster at the back for us. Leaburn absolutely rattled them. Good games by Coady, Collins and Docherty too. I feel like Kelman just doesn’t have the work rate for a Nathan Jones team right now, he seems a bit lethargic on the pitch when he comes on. Great point though after Tuesday and we didn’t crumble when we went one down.

Delighted with that. Portsmouth and Blackburn look much improved so its vital to have picked up.something.

Today has been a bad day for West Brom. Need to make it a very bad day for them on Tuesday

Well I would never have thought we would get a point today what a battling performance to a man ! For me that was never a handball and no way they shouldn’t have been down to 10 men. But a massive point. Does Collins keep the spot on Tuesday ?

Feared the worst at 1-0 when they were on top, but a point is a great result. Quality lacking but not the effort today.

Kelman looks unfit. Don't know how he's managed that but he's at least a yard off the pace constantly

I need a lie down after that.
I assume you mean after writing your summary above?
  • Didn't watch but read it all on the match thread. Big point. Great fight back after the Pompey result. Well done the lads........

As Brownie said, we need to be patient with Collins. Could be many weeks before he’s fully up to speed. Meanwhile, he seemed to do enough to make a difference to the side. His Kenyan fans will be all over social media I’m guessing.
Tremendous battling performance, when after their goal I was expecting the worst.

A good point. Well done lads.  Especially Collins - thought this was a really tough match to make your debut and I thought he was excellent, if a little raw.

As an aside, I just looked at the stats on Fotmob and noticed we had an XG of 0.85 which I guess sounds about right, but Southampton only had an XG of 1.05, which really doesn’t.
Now, you could argue that given the scoreline, this was an accurate analysis, but I can’t help but be surprised that, despite being utterly dominated for most of the match, we pretty much matched them, not only in actual goals, but in expected goals too.
I’m not entirely convinced by how useful XG is - I suppose it does give indications of ruthlessness and goalthreat etc, but sometimes, to me at least, it just doesn’t ring true or feel representative of a game.

Gutsy performance, just what was needed .. not quite revenge for the Valley hammering ..   whatever, a valuable and deserved point .. good start for what will be a series of 3 difficult games in a row

    Brilliant Point!

    Worked Hard & Fought Hard.

    Jones & Bell were Superb.

    Campbell worked tirelessly.

Leaburn was back to the form he’d showed before his injury against Leicester.

The only disappointment for me was that cameo from Kelman, as he looked well of the pace.

Fantastic from the lads , of course it begs the question that if you can mix it with a good side like Southampton how can you turn in such a limp one against a relatively poor side like Portsmouth??
Still- no complaints here but we need to show these battling qualities in the remaining games. We can definitely stay up.
You can always rely on Millwall tanking on the rare occasions you actually want them to win, utter tossers.
Naturally Collins looks raw and inexperienced at this level because.....he's never played at this level until today, he has to start somewhere and this is as good a start as any. Moist gussets in SE7 and Kenya I think!

Good point, fuck the south coast teams though, they’re basically French.
I knew Al Murray was hiding on this forum.

Although, to be fair, se9addick IS a beautiful British name.

A great battling performance to get us a point.

It's a good job our team show more bottle than some of those on the match thread though. There were so many white flags going up after Southampton scored I thought I was in France and the Germans were invading again!

  • Terrific point,  now let's win Tuesday.

In a way going a goal down may end up having positive effect inasmuch as we have shown (to ourselves if no-one else) that games do NOT in fact end with one goal being conceded and we CAN actually fight back into games - even more importantly, us doing that after Leicester threw away 2 points is potentially a massive psychological shift.
Plus after being absolutely trounced by Southampton in the reverse fixture it restores a bit of pride and belief, quite apart from the point being valuable in and of itself.
  • So, all in all, we're disappointed by our neighbours today, just like Pompey.
Goes to show we can't rely on anyone else.

Think if we get 3 points from both WBA and Oxford United we'll be okay..........

    TBC......
