The players are also paid to take the responsibility. I hope Jones justifies his wage by taking appropriate action against the players that aren't pulling their weight.bobmunro said:

Thats not necessarily on Jones though is it...? - You'd expect the 11-players on the pitch to be able to show the effort required without their Manager having to tell them to do that...bobmunro said:
He needs to take responsibility for that abject performance. He's likely paid 20 or 30 times what those fans earns who shell out their hard earned to expect to see EFFORT.Busterblitz said:

In the changes that must be made before the next game commit to a team and practice. Mannion in goal , Collins into a back four, perhaps Février on the left and someone quick alongside Dyke. Yes work to do!4

They thoroughly deserved the win! That’s it.5

Quite a funny meltdown from Jones at the end though. Was so angry at someone in the lower covered end, both feet left the ground0
-
Fair play to Portsmouth….came out attacking and showing a lot of confidence for their league position….every player won their duels…..5

Very disappointed but not overly surprised at the manner of that defeat.
We are set up and play how we play under Jones.
When it works its ugly but just about effective, when it doesn't like tonight, its even uglier and completely ineffective.
No point blaming the ref for that performance.
My worry is that there is no plan B when it isn't working.
Hump-ball up to forwards and not playing through the midfield because we have no class in there is what we are about.
We could all see mid way through the first half that we were being outplayed all over the pitch.
We have to battle this out with what we have in the building. Try to survive and look at it again but I am afraid that Jones ball is Jones ball and will not change much even with slightly better players.
Ah-well, We are Charlton and will probably get something from Southampton - but I guarantee it won't be pretty even if we do.

Had we scored in the first minute, totally different game, but from then on, just nothing.16

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho has been speaking to BBC Radio Solent after his side's 3-1 win against fellow bottom-of-the-table rivals Charlton
"Delighted with the result and we matched it with a really good performance, a really strong performance.
"Take the opening minute or so out of it when Nico saved us - it’s easy to forget that when you come away with an important away victory, you look at that and it was just a moment of us being lax defensively but then I think that maybe sharpened us up a bit.
"After that, I thought for 55 minutes we were excellent, fully deserved the lead, came out in the second half and Charlton make three changes, you might expect a different game.
"But we came out, fully deserved to get the third goal and it went a bit crazy after that. We made a few very strange decisions after that which we hadn’t made but the fact we saw the game out in difficult circumstances is really pleasing."

It’s insane that he would think the fans wouldn’t be pissed off after that. There was a fan that let him know as he was leaving in the lower west as well. Fair play for how he got a response after Millwall, but it was the manner of the performance tonight that pissed us off. If he doesn’t understand that then he’s a bit deludedCroydon said:Quite a funny meltdown from Jones at the end though. Was so angry at someone in the lower covered end, both feet left the ground8 -
Had that moment where Carey once again showed his desire to do it all on his own as wellguinnessaddick said:Had we scored in the first minute, totally different game, but from then on, just nothing.3 -
The first few pages of these threads are always angry posts with little longer term perspective.
We're at 7 points from 12 since the Millwall performance - not terrible for a relegation-fighting team. We're also 7 points from the relegation spots and have shown real fight Vs Stoke and QPR.
I thought a few things went against us today early in the game and it was enough to rock us.
1. The ref simply wouldn't allow any contact between players which goes against our playing style.
2. Kiminski gifting Pompey a goal
3. A terrible decision by the ref to award a penalty
It's disappointing we couldn't recover but that's life in the Championship. Those whining and moaning about where we are in the table would be happier if we were 4th in League One. We're a new championship team - these results will happen.
For what's it worth, I thought the Portsmouth players were a credit to their badge tonight. Fought really hard and deserved the win.22 -
Absolute garbage and no excuses for that performance. They out fought us and a great third goal.
Didn't help by Kamikaze letting a soft goal in to give them an upper hand.
Hello hello where was our midfield tonight.
Special praise to the ref.... You have won the Oscar for one of the worst ever displays I have seen.. Where do we get these idiots from.3 -
Can’t wait for the Jones bullshit interview…..count the cliches…we were miles off it….I have to take the blame…blah blah blah0

We're 7 points from the relegation zone in our first season back in the Championship. You'd have taken that before the season started. Jones is therefore doing a good job.ct_addick said:Can’t wait for the Jones bullshit interview…..count the cliches…we were miles off it….I have to take the blame…blah blah blah18 -
What is the point on bringing on Berry??? I understand we need a goal, however he looks like he’s playing in a charity match. Can’t read or keep up with play at all. I know he’s not an issue but would rather JRC or even Fullah5

Did it to a fan in the covered end as he was about to go into the tunnel.CafcWest said:Nathan Jones remarkably restrained tonight - where was the screaming and ranting!
Was applauding fans... walking off... and something seemed to catch his eye/ear. He jolted towards the fans and pointed to himself saying "me?" repeatedly and then went ballistic and had to be ushered down the nearby tunnel2 -

4 of our next 5 games against teams in the Top 10.
WBA away next Weds is massive!!0 -
1 win from the 3 hone games and predictably we lose the one we needed to avoid.7
-
There may well be a lot of bones to pick out of that but Portsmouth deserved to win, we deserved to lose.
Wish it wasn't so, but we simply have to hold our nerve in the games to come.
It was a poor night for the manager this time.2 -
We were second best to a shite side - and second best by a long way.
Problem, in my view, is that the squad remains weak in the middle of the park and NJ has no clue about how to change a game.
Pompey had 14 players missing and put out a team of “lumps” who outfought us and outwitted us.
1-3 flatters us and that was a total embarrassment.
Whether we stay up or not, the recruitment team needs an overhaul, along with half our playing squad.
Bluntly, I doubt NJ is a long term solution and his selections and tactics are baffling.
We have no space in our squad for Fuller, but we do put on Berry who is well past it.
Very depressed after that and if we keep up this playing style, we will be back in L1.
2 -
Embarrassment. All of them.
Indeed, we have a 7 point gap but more performances like that and that will shorten quickly.
Result really means we have to at least draw at Saints and beat WBA to give us the net we need going into more difficult games.

Ref was erratic, but not his fault that Kaminski gifted them the first, or Clarke kicked the ball away needlessly, or the midfield was second best all night2

Mr Munro, forget his time with you at Stoke and calm down, let it go

On the train home.
Completely hit and hope, no ideas, no quality. It’s a really tough watch.
I agree that staying up is the priority, but if we want to remain in this division, we have to adapt our style of play. I’m just not convinced Nathan Jones is either capable of, or willing to, make that change.

Let’s face it we have a manager who is as limited as his team with his tactics…..teams come in with a game plan and he can’t adapt….his emotions could also play into it….sometimes they just need a reassuring voice to help with their confidence….1
-
So frustrating as so much of this is through our own doing:
- Big chance from Clarke at the beginning that he hits straight at the keeper and then receives a brain dead yellow card early on in the game whilst being up against a strong and pacy winger.
- Shocking mistakes from Kaminski.
- Campbell not, at the very least, hitting the target right towards the end.
- Jones bringing Berry on AGAIN.
- Players running into dead ends and misplacing/overhitting passes.
I think we'll look back at that Pompey last minute winner against us in December as a pivotal moment in the season if we, god forbid, end up getting relegated. Getting a goal like that against a team that 'never loses at Fratton Park' is the sort of result that gives a team a huge boost.
I'd go as far to say that if Pompey don't score that winner in December, we probably would've been alright today - psychology plays a massive role in football and we've gone ahead and gifted one of our biggest relegation rivals two massive psychological boosts (not to mention a boost in the league table, too).
We're our own worst enemies and it's exhausting to witness it year after year (barring the occasional season).
The footballing gods must be Nigel's. It's the only explanation.3
