Winter-January 2026 Transfer Window Rumours ...

He grabs people a lot, yes, but he sticks his foot in a lot more than most 10's, and whilst he doesn't possess the speed and endurance he once did, he still presses and hassles players, especially deep midfielders or centre backs when on the ball. Unfortunately for him I think the championship now just moves too quickly for him to keep up, he'd still look pretty good in a possession based league 1 teamTelMc32 said:
There were a few points yesterday where, as someone said above, Berry really did use his footballing brain which is a scarcity in our squad. Taking the ball out of defence, he resisted the urge to boot it aimlessly upfield, took it forward and found a perfect pass out to the wing. Too much of a tendency for me to grab hold of the opposition, as he can’t keep up otherwise, but you’re obviously missing a lot of what he does bring to the team, especially when so many of them don’t have that nous he does.Sword65pf said:
That’s what NJ says about Berry at the moment, can’t believe I tried to give Luke berry a bit of credit when the lineup came out, he really didn’t back it up. I’ve got this horrible feeling we are going to be underwhelmed by our signings.Covered_End_Lad said:Coventry is the first name on the team sheet for me, maybe just behind Lloyd in that aspect.4 -

Interestingly dykes is one of the top 5 worst performing players in the champ according to foot mob with an average rating of 6.149

Reckon we might be under pressure to move some out before any come in? Wages and fees etc.....Brown59 said:I’m sure once again we might strengthen by getting Mr Nobody from nowhere FC. We should be doing deals now not at the end of the month when another five games have passed us by. if we’re going to strengthen do it now. Give the new players a chance to get going. It may be too late otherwise.0 -
Fotmob gave Gillesphey the same rating as Lloyd Jones yesterday despite deserving a rating in the minus numbers, so I think we can rule Fotmob out as a barometer of accuracyAberystwythAddick said:Interestingly dykes is one of the top 5 worst performing players in the champ according to foot mob with an average rating of 6.1431 -
Yep fotmob/flashscores just make up ratings. Watch a game in person and compare it with the player’s scores on the apps and you’ll see.2

League 1 quality?BigDiddy said:We need proven L1 quality in midfield, wing backs and maybe another striker.
I would look for a couple of high quality loans in this window. Worried we may buy Dykes who has only scored 3 goals in 46 games.
Very tough with our small budget for this league, but I do fear for our survival if we do not strengthen this window

It's not made up but it's generated by players stats which can be misleading as it's based purely on narrow fact rather than with contextChawlton said:Yep fotmob/flashscores just make up ratings. Watch a game in person and compare it with the player’s scores on the apps and you’ll see.4 -

I don't disagree, but I also don't believe in guaranteeing spots to players. So I would like someone to come in who has the quality to start (I do think Dykes has that) whilst also giving Miles a chance to fight for his place. And whilst the goals aren't going in for Miles at the moment, he's looked so much better over the course of recent weeks in terms of his link-up play.Sword65pf said:
The last sentence is the problem though, our forwards on the whole haven’t done enough and yet you are suggesting bringing someone to start on the bench, what’s the point, I don’t see Leaburn suddenly scoring loads because of the fella on the bench, whoever comes in needs to be the starter.SDAddick said:
Thissss. He's gotten much better in recent weeks, and we don't cross enough for him. Some of that is down to 1) Bree being bang out of form going forward, and 2) No natural LWB, and 3) Lack of a long throw specialist (we miss you Josh Edwards, get well soon).NabySarr said:
Well he gets into our team, and last time I checked we were in the championship. If he was available I’d imagine plenty of championship teams would want him, not necessarily to start but then we have one of the weaker squads in the league so he’s a starter for usBerkshire1970 said:NabySarr said: He wouldn’t get into a single championship team. What would you say are his strengths?
Leaburn has been one of our best players over the last 4 games, he’s improving not struggling. Nearly every team in league 1 would take himBerkshire1970 said:Kanu is currently playing for Walsall in league 2 for a reason. There’s no comparison to playing in the championship! We need a striker who can do the basics with Kelman & the returning Godden to win us matches. Leaburn is struggling and could do with a loan but not sure league 1 teams would take him.
We could do with someone like Dykes to take a bit of pressure off Leaburn, as otherwise we will break him again
I think he’s got loads of strengths, if you compare him to other championship strikers this season he’s currently
Top for duels and aerial duels won per 90 minutes
In the top 4% for % aerial duels won
Top 25% for interceptions per 90
Top 4% for possession won in final third per 90
Those are very important stats for a Nathan Jones striker and he’s amongst the best strikers in the league at them statistically. It’s clear he’s improved a lot since the start of the season, he needs to do more in terms of chances and goals but hopefully he keeps improving and that starts to come to, it would probably help if we crossed the ball in his direction every now and then
AND, as Naby points out above I believe, we could do with a striker to ease some of the pressure on him. Dykes sounds like a fit for that role, so I'd be interested. I haven't watched loads of him in recent years but I suspect one key aspect for him will be how well he presses, as Miles has really improved that side of his game. Also, just because Dykes comes here doesn't make him a starter. It would be nice to have a game changer to come on for Miles after 60 minutes or vice versa.7 -
Well said. He also takes up good positions and we know he can score goals. He's good in the press as well, again, good footballing brain. He just doesn't always offer the most on the ball or technique. It's hard when you have Carey (who looked bad again) and Knibbs on the bench who do have more technical ability and both can score goals without having the footballing IQ that Berry brings. Berry is also good in the air for his size. He picks up the loose balls and bits and bobs which Carey and Knibbs have struggled with at times this year (both want it more to feet than is common in a Nathan Jones side). And, in fairness to Berry, he took a step back, collected the ball, and kept it moving out wide in the build up to the goal. So he's not completely useless. He's just not the best footballer.TelMc32 said:

I didn't get a chance to write up my player marks for Rovers, but I think my marks for Coventry were "I get why he starts Berry, even if I wouldn't do it."1 -
We really lack footballing/chs1
-
There is also the point with Leaburn thay he has looked excellent the last few games he does have an injury history. If he goes down we have no one else who can fill that role. We might be fine with TC and Kelman starting games but we need someone who can come on late on in games and bring an aerial presence. For that alone we need that player. In reality we also need someone to give leaburn a break occasionally either from the start or late in games.15

Not really played much this year but someone who I hope we’d go for and realistic would be Talovierov at Stoke….unfortunately played the last 2 games and got clean sheets in both but a big strong defender and decent at this level0

Won't be him as he's out until April according to The Athletic. They also had a list of Liverpool youngsters who might go on loan but none of them were left sided defendersNabySarr said:Owen Beck has gone back to Liverpool from Derby. He’s a LWB and would be a very good loan signing0 -
Isn't their a young villa LWB who's at a league 2 club, he could be the option maybe?? They are top 4, he's fit and been excellent in league 2 in his first professional loan by all accounts.

Haven’t seen all that much of him but he’s had a very good first half of the season by all accounts. Has a wicked left foot, half a dozen assists whipping the ball in from wide areas. And can take a long-ish throw which is another thing we’ve missed with Josh being out.scruffle said:Isn't their a young villa LWB who's at a league 2 club, he could be the option maybe?? The defensive side is still up for scrutiny, having only played League 2 opposition. But we know where Ramsay came from. And if he’s only asked to play LWB with Amari’i Bell cleaning up behind him, he could be a good option and Villa might be open to a sale?4 -

I haven't watched Wycombe at all this season but would expect Karoy to do well in a Michael Duff side8
-
Think Wycombe would be a great move for Karoy. A good 6 months in league 1 and then he could be ready for us in the championship next season
He looked decent in his recent appearances but really needs some regular football starting week in week out15 -
If this happens then it’s another sign we are just so much smarter as a club than we have been in recent memory. If you were to look at league 1 and 2 and pick the managers that play a similar way to us, 3-5-2 with a lot of focus on out of possession, you’d have Johnnie Jackson, Matt Sadler (Walsall) and Michael Duff near the top of that list. Seems like we are much smarter now at picking the right clubs for our players to go on loan too, that play a similar style to usfenaddick said:I haven't watched Wycombe at all this season but would expect Karoy to do well in a Michael Duff side23 -
He’s out of contract in the summer and not being offered a new one, Villa are letting the player decide whether he wants to move now or stay at Swindon and leave for free in the summer. Definitely available on a permanent and probably not even having to pay a fee, Stockport and Orient linked with him at the momentCallumcafc said:

Yeah Karoy needs a long run of first team football to get better imo. Definitely need another central midfielder to come in to replace him though!2

So, first week of January just about up, and nothin' yet, just not good enough...Jones Out!!...😉5

Looking at the BBC website, and ignoring "loan recalls", only a handful of players have been signed so far by Championship clubs.1

I can’t believe we aren’t trying to get JRS in and letting him go to Swansea3
