… will be played in South London.

Aside from Leicester away on Jan 31st, our next game that requires travel outside of South London is on Feb 21st. To Southampton.

And it could be seven of our next eight games if Pompey (H) is rescheduled for before Feb 21st.

This period, coinciding with the transfer window and hopefully some more players back from injury (I know Godden isn’t too far away now), is absolutely crucial. We need to pick up a healthy amount of points. If we do that, we’ll be okay.

Well you can write the Millwall game off. If they bottle it at Pompey and Blackburn they’ve got no chance at The Den.

Edit: I’m not saying The Den is an intimidating ground, just that every Charlton side for the last 30 years (on and off) has bottled it there.

But if they pull something off it could be a real catalyst

Surely it’s 50/50 that we will be drawn at home rather than away in the next round of the FA Cup…

A point away at a team in the playoffs should be seen as a good result. I hope people don’t fall into the trap of it being a disaster if we don’t win that game.

I don't think we've bottled anything this season - come up short on quality and generally knackered maybe but what's bottle got to do with any of our defeats? That's the point - we are competing a little out of our depth atm so need some reinforcements in the window and a fanbase who recognizes the situation and supports. Nothing to do with lacking bottle.

Unfortunately it will always feel like a disaster.

Lots of ifs and buts here, but bear with me. Stoke at home on Feb 14th is on 4th Round day, that league game will be off if Stoke progress against Coventry next week. But I suspect we'd fill the void with our home game against Portsmouth, unless there's an upset for Chelsea or Arsenal.

Doesn't alter the fact we have loads of home games coming up!

Couldn’t hold off Pompey for ten seconds and blew a two goal lead today. It’s the definition of bottling.

I think it’s a team that’s really lacking the confidence that they’re going to win or pick up an important result on the road. I think it’s a bit of naivety amongst of the team and that’s shown in either not hanging on or throwing it away. I don’t think we have a team of bottlers, not at all.

Tired legs can’t help at the end of games either. We haven’t really got the squad depth to rotate much at the back but we should have maybe changed things around more elsewhere

Charlton play Chelsea in the fa cup 3rd round
    Pompey play Arsenal.
Assuming we both lose i expect Charlton v Pompey to be on the day of the 4th round

What about the late winners v Watford, Sheff Utd and West Brom plus the injury time equaliser at Hull?

We've won a lot more points very late in games than we've lost.

The last of those was 2 months ago, Portsmouth and Blackburn both happened in the last 7 days.

    Yes I agree.
By the same logic as The Red Robin shows, are goals that we score in the last minute only scored because the opposition bottled it? and any comeback from goals behind totally due to the opposition bottling it? Or do we give our own team credit for battling to the end?
It's all just stuff that happens in sport all the time, its part of it and what makes it great. If you want to score last minute winners, you will also have to let some in in other game too!

Pompey have also got to rearrange their postponed home match against Ipswich from yesterday. Ipswich should easily overcome Blackpool on Saturday in the 3rd round but that might require them to not field a weaker team as teams from higher divisions tend to do. Given the choice I would have thought Pompey and their fans would rather have a home game on a Saturday than an away game given their fans will all turn up at Charlton no matter which day it’s played.
