  • If there are other options available more suited to the wing back position then don’t renew, if he is our only option then keep him but I think we need to accept he’s a RB not a RWB.

He’s clearly playing through injury. Him remaining on set pieces is baffling, but earlier in the season when he was fit his set piece delivery was very good. I still think he’s worth signing but could definitely do with some time out of the team to get fit again

Also got to give him some credit that he’s willing to play through injury for us when he’s only contracted to us for another couple of weeks and an injury getting worse could impact his next move whether it’s with us or elsewhere

I wonder if behind the scenes there is already an agreement, in principle, in place and that's why he's prepared to play.

Edit - and Southampton allowing him to be played.

Jones commented that Bree had an issue with his groin after the Wrexham game back in November and he could not take set pieces.

Clearly that groin is still playing him up then
I think Curtis Fleming denied that after the Norwich game? Seem to remember him saying that the groin wasn't to blame.

Ed - Found the quote. "Is he 100 per cent with his groin? No, he’s not. But he’s playing through it. He feels like he is good enough and strong enough to do that. At times he might get a little bit sore. At the moment he’s fine.

"Will it hamper him? Maybe a little but he put some decent balls in and we won first headers. It’s about consistency. Is it his groin (that was a factor against Norwich)? No, I didn’t think it was.”
  • Have wasted so many setpieces in the last few games - we can't afford this.

Was back close to his best I thought yesterday. A couple of set pieces were poor but we also scored from one again. Most importantly he was moving much better which suggests his niggle is clearing up. Now we wait and see if that was the last we see of him or not

Still think we can do better than him, he lacks any kind of pace and in a side already limited in pace we need both wing-backs to be absolutely rapid IMO

Not surprised he looked better yesterday as he could focus on defending and set pieces, for me he’s less convincing in open play when we’re attacking when sometimes we need that bit of pace or flair that he doesn’t offer.

Ironically, I thought Bree was also actually pretty good in open play yesterday, although there wasn’t too much of that! Some really nice one touch passes and some good wing play

I think if fully fit he is worth having, I agree about pace, but it’s back to the million dollar question who?, are we struggling to get players in this window?, I suppose we will find out, hopefully this week.

Yeah I don’t doubt he can offer that, but there are times when we need someone who can run at defences which isn’t really his game.

Had the best game he’s had in a long while yesterday. Actually had some decent crosses going in, just goes to show how much we’ve missed that as we’re so dangerous when we get a delivery.

I’m really not sure we can, you have to think about price and the demand for players like that. There would be lots more attractive clubs to go to atm. Bree has done alright for us and is a good championship full back. It’s all well and good saying the wingbacks need to be lighting and whip on good crosses but where is that player coming from?

NJ likes that defensive aspect though doesn’t he?, to have both would cost a lot and who would that be?, and would NJ be brave enough to use them? I agree we do need that spark going forward.

It's all irrelevant because he's a Nathan Jones player and he will stay if NJ can keep him. Personally, don't feel we should just accept what we have because we don't know what else is out there. We might have said the same when we had Purrington and Matthews. There absolutely are better players out there.

Absolutely, but we need to make sure we have someone better coming in before shooting ourselves in the foot even more.

Bree was very good when he was spending more time in the opposition box than ours. He'd have the opportunity to put more crosses in from more dangerous areas which means more chance to make one stick. Against Sheff Utd his heatmap was mostly in the opposition half and box and he got an assist that won us the game. Against Blackburn his heatmap was similar and he put in 11 crosses, 4 accurate. Goal and an assist. His heatmap against someone like Pompey though is much more varied and defensive and that's what's hurting us, the loss of a wide attacking outlet. The lack of balance on the left side has really hurt us down both flanks because we're not pushing Bree up as high as we'd like and he's becoming a pretty dull RWB, which people should remember Ramsay was before his positional change and our shape adjustment. We create nothing in a flat 352 but we need a solid defender on the left side to make it happen like we want. I think Bree will look a great deal better again once we do that

It’s not about us accepting anything, the manager and the scouting team will know what is out there and for what price, the desired requirements for the wingback position cost a lot of money. No doubt there are better players out there but we are not in the position financially to go out and get them

Probably not in a January window. But there is value to be found generally. And there are the Kayne Ramsey's of the world.

Surprised anyone wouldn’t be keen on us signing him. Experienced championship player that has done pretty well for us, exactly the kind of signings we should be looking to add to what is still quite an inexperienced squad at this level

If we don’t sign him or extend the loan is Sheff Utd his last game?

Jones said something like we have him until the 17th so no idea if that means he can play next Saturday or not
