Did a muddy Charlton yesterday and Greenwich Peninsula last week.
Once it settles down, Greenwich Peninsula will be a good parkrun, but with 583 last week and 608 this week, it's a congested start which I'm not sure is sustainable. My guess is that it'll settle at 300-400, which will be fine, but it just needs to get through the busy first couple of months.3 -
We let the 12 year old do his first 5k at Shorne yesterday, 29:24 and he didn’t look out of breath at the end, annoying child9
-
I was volunteering at Omagh Parkrun on Saturday, a ten year old was flying around the course, finished 13th (22:02 finish time), and looked much fresher than I felt (the cold wind wind would founder you).
That said, there were several who had clearly been out gallivanting on Black Eye Friday and we're not fully recovered.3 -
Having decided to ditch my 2nd midweek runs (sprints) and finally move to a winter schedule I was less concerned about being held up in traffic early on and didn't push myself too much (not that I can !). Imagine my surprise when I got my email to find it was my second fastest ever (I still don't understand how I did my PB) and highest age-graded score.3

Did my 45th of the year at Ipswich so all being well I’ll finish up on 47 which is annoying but Ho-hum…5

I do like a bit of gallivanting.NornIrishAddick said:I was volunteering at Omagh Parkrun on Saturday, a ten year old was flying around the course, finished 13th (22:02 finish time), and looked much fresher than I felt (the cold wind wind would founder you).

Anyone doing Sutcliffe Park on Christmas Day?Also signed up to the Olympic park 10k in a few weeks time, anybody done that before?2
-
If this is the RunThrough one, I've done the 5k version a few times and it's good fun. For the 10k, expect four circuits around the Taxpayers' Stadium (if the words to Bubbles are still on the side, don't be put off by seeing the words "like my dreams/ they fade and die").DoctorCharlton said:Also signed up to the Olympic park 10k in a few weeks time, anybody done that before?
Used to have a RunThrough annual pass - brilliant for midweek, last-minute runs - but unfortunately the cost has gone up and I didn't get so much use out of it this year, so am going to have to give that up next year.1 -
It is the RunThrough one, yes. First ever event I’ve ran in so looking forward to it.InspectorSands said:

I did get offered membership when I signed up but don’t think I’ll be running enough to get value out of it.1 -
Anyone who needs toilets pre-parkrun, Charlton park's will be open. Then the cafe is open post-run for coffee. I think the owners do a lot of community work like Xmas dinners so a takeaway coffee and thank you is a nice end to the run.3

As I was staying overnight at the Holiday Inn at Carrow road yesterday, I decided to do a parkrun on the way home in an effort to cheer me up following the disappointing defeat.
I choose Sizewell parkrun next to Sizewell nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast.
It was a very blustery and cold start but I soon warmed up on the out, a small loop and back course. The parkrun is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and it did not disappoint. A lovely parkrun to finish the year on.1 -
I did this one a couple of years back, still no superpowers, very disappointing.larryorcolin said:As I was staying overnight at the Holiday Inn at Carrow road yesterday, I decided to do a parkrun on the way home in an effort to cheer me up following the disappointing defeat.

My first one this morning for two months after a run of illness and hangovers. Gorgeous in the sunshine, freezing in the shade.Xmas day I watched a 16yr old breeze round with a time of 16.19, and didn’t even look out of breath.6

PB for the year today (old ones always the best). My 74th different parkrun…I guess that kind of sets a target for the year…4

Despite the cold, another 2nd fastest ever and age-grade record.5

We took advantage of the light traffic and went to Grovelands in North London. It's surprisingly nice, woodland, hills, a lake.
We were meant to be at Oak Hill but they cancelled due to frost/ice. Saturday 9am is -2, feels like -7, so there will be lots of cancellations. Make a plan B and a C!1 -

Managed to keep my run of always making the NYD run every year since I started Parkrun in 2018 going, though 1.30am bed off the back of a few years made it a struggle!
I’m hoping for Avery Hill tomorrow, most likely they’ll take some of the path run onto the grass, but they’ll post an update on their Facebook page by 8.20am0 -

Greenwich Peninsula has just cancelled.
We'll be at Avery Hill or Orpington then, they have good records in this weather. Hoblingwell and Lullingstone usually run in ice/snow as well.0 -
Avery Hill confirmed as on1
-
Charlton, Sutcliffe, Hilly Fields, Thames Path Woolwich all on.1

That was cold but beautiful with the sun out1

I ventured out into the cold for my first parkrun of the year at Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun, which was busy by its usual standards as four nearby parkruns were all cancelled.
The parkrun briefing was impeccably observed, perhaps due to frozen runners, but you could have heard a pin drop.
It was nice running with the sound of frost cracking underfoot and it made for a lovely scene as the runners spread out across the course, 2 laps around 2 fields in a figure of 8 pattern.
We went to the community cafe in the hospital grounds after the run, staffed by volunteers, for a well earned hot chocolate.
Definitely one that I would highly recommend.

Think that was Bethlem’s biggest attendance too (396, usually gets 100-150 on a busy day). Glad to hear it went okay.larryorcolin said:I ventured out into the cold for my first parkrun of the year at Bethlem Royal Hospital parkrun, which was busy by its usual standards as four nearby parkruns were all cancelled.

Charlton had a bumper turnout of 289.1 -
Bitterly cold at Folkestone today but it went ahead - neighbouring Ashford and Dover both cancelled. One of my New Year resolutions is to complete more Parkruns this year and I had forgotten quite how invigorating and friendly the event can be.2

I don’t think anything over the last 7 years has done more for my mental health than Parkrun.FremlinsFellow said:I had forgotten quite how invigorating and friendly the event can be.3 -
Did my first Charlton run for a few months today and was a bit shocked how hard I found it. Was nearly three minutes slower than last time.
My aim is to get back under 30 minutes by my 75th birthday in May.3
