I saw that again last week.
It’s a miracle he’s lived as long as he did.
    RIP.

Hopefully he’s not on The Road to Hell.
Sorry, but someone was going to say it.

U can just see the wats- app jokes that will be flying about - so much material - that's no disrespect to Chris Rea , just the way it will be.

I'm sure it won't be long before the joke about the collaboration between Dire Straits and Chris Rea puts in an appearance.

    Wasn't that Bruce Hornsby?

RIP Chris - will think of you when driving home...
  • One of my friends grew up in the same street as Chris Rea in Middlesbrough. They were friends. He was a very friendly down to earth man. Driving Home For Christmas was my favourite Christmas song. RIP Chris.

Love his music. Was surfing YouTube only a couple of days ago and stumbled on Road to Hell, haunting and thought provoking. At the time it crossed my mind fleetingly, as I knew he had been ill.

    RIP

On the Beach is another one of his classics.

Sad that a charity video for Driving Home for Christmas was banned on youtube for copyright reasons. Great video staring Lionel Blair & Martin Shaw (amongst others). If you get a chance to see it then make sure its not the backwards one !

    RIP.
  • My daughter beamed when Driving home for Christmas came on the CD when I picked her up from uni that first year.

I made sure it came on for the next two years too.  It'll always represent those journeys home for her and me.

Just checked my little used CD collection - I have five of his albums - notable tracks to many to mention.

    RIP Chris.

Edit .. The brief video in this BBC obituary describes his pretty serious health issues of which I, and I guess most of us, knew nothing
Chris Rea: Driving Home for Christmas singer dies aged 74 - BBC News
  • Gutted. Almost everyone of a certain age would have had one of his albums in their collection, and if you didn't you still looked forward to Driving Home For Christmas as that would mark the start of the festivities. Much, much more to his music than a Christmas cracker of a tune and probably opened my eyes to more wider forms of music than I would otherwise had looked at.

    RIP Chris.
