Rob Reiner - RIP

Found dead this morning along with his wife in their home. Apparently a homicide but no other details at present.

Great director - known for classics such as Spinal Tap, Misery and A Few Good Men.

RIP.

Incredibly sad way to go. RIP

Some outstanding films to his name, and brilliant performance in Wolf of Wall Street.

I first saw This Is Spinal Tap, when I was 15, to this day I genuinely think it is one of the best comedies ever made.  I still watch it every so often even though I am 51.  The Sure Thing, made me like John Cusack, another great film. This is without talking about his more celebrated works.

It is a shame that reports are hinting at a murder suicide thing.

RIP to a true legend, who helped entertain my teenage years and second childhood.

  • Felt sick this morning when I saw the news. Big fan of his work. Spinal Tap is one of my all time favourite films.

    RIP Rob and Michele.

Stand By Me > The Princess Bride > When Harry Met Sally > Misery > A Few Good Men must be one of the best runs of consecutive legendary films by a director. Spans so many genres as well, odds are there's always at least one Rob Reiner film that someone thinks of when they think of the films they love. A really sad loss

Shocking news. ‘Stand by me’ is a masterpiece film of a masterpiece story, and ‘Spinal Tap’ is probably in the top five comedy films ever made, so set in it’s context but nevertheless timeless genius.
    RIP Rob and Michele.
  • Spinal Tap is a masterpiece, and plenty of other absolute classics on his CV.

Sounds like it may well have been an awful way to go, sadly.

    RIP to them both.

Suggestions that it may have been their son who killed them.

He made some wonderful films. RIP to them both.

  • RIP

I don't know about what happened but wasn't there a famous couple recently who also died including their dog in a similar sounding situation?

Gene Hackman and his wife - they both died of natural causes.

I think it was a case of she died first of natural causes and was then obviously unable to administer his medication for a heart condition.

The Princess Bride is one of those films I watch when I'm feeling down knowing that however crap I feel it WILL make me laugh. And that's just one of his many many great films.

    RIP.

Their middle son has been arrested in connection with their sad deaths.

Trump has really surpassed himself with his comments this time. A new low even for him.

    *Lifted from BBC report:

    President
Donald Trump has criticised Reiner on social media, saying without evidence that the two "reportedly" died "due to the anger he caused others" with his "Trump Derangement Syndrome". Reiner was a vocal critic of the president

I've long been a huge fan of Reiner. He has been involved in some major touchstone movies in our lifetime. Hollywood royalty. His string of hits from the mid 80s to the mid 90s was amazing. Shocking to hear how it seems to have ended for him and his wife.

As for Trump - I honestly didn't think I could hate him any more than I already did. Sub-human scum.

Reiner is an absolute legend with The Princess Bride being one of my favourite films ever since I was a kid.

I read his son has had addiction problems in the past and has been homeless.  Very troubled guy it seems and, if guilty, looks like he'll spend the rest of his days in prison rather than spanking his father's millions up his nose.

Trump is just an utter wankpuffin.  Managing to make this about him is a new level of low even for him

I don't think we're spoiling tributes. That's already happened and it sure wasn't us that did it. I get why you guys don't want to have to put out fires and I respect that. I haven't mentioned his name on here for years. But, to me at least, it's important that people like him are called out and such behaviour isn't normalised.

Crazy how many absolute classics he directed in completely different genres within a decade:
