TC reluctant to go to the traveling fans when he scored. Clearly visible from TV coverage, even when pushed that way by one of our players (not sure who). Understandable for the grief he has been getting from a significant number. Also shows what a sensitive soul he is, and possibly why that grief can be damaging. Hopefully he kicks on and can get back to a more natural forward, out-ball position with other players returning.
Yes I saw that. He clearly wasn't happy even though he scored and certainly didn't want to celebrate with the fans.
It's part of the game. I'm fed up with reading about well-paid players not able to take criticism. Today he scored, the other evening his bottle job cost us the second goal.
It's only 'part of the game' as long as supposedly grown men keep shouting and typing abuse at players doing their best. Let's not act like supporters don't have any control over the situation. Complaining that players are upset by over the top criticism and then crying that they didn't want to celebrate their goal with you after is the most ridiculous double standard fans have.
I've no problem with him or anyone else not wanting to celebrate their goal, and I never said such a thing. My comment was aimed at players, and in this case one of ours, who don't take criticism.
The fact that it has, on occasion (and this one), manifested into abuse is unfortunate and unacceptable. However, I do stand by my original comment re: criticism.
I'm assuming you're both of those accounts then. Which of our players can't take criticism?

Tough watching at the start but better second half. Despite being on top in the first half and most of the second Brum somehow managed to only score the one - amazing when you see how we've shipped goals of late and how many they've banged in at home with Dykes, Gray, Stansfield, kyogo as forwards..well played the defence.

Campbell scoring is a nice touch, would keep him as an impact sub for a couple more games and hope that works some confidence and form into him, but Leaburn needs to sit it out as well and between the two, Campbell offers more so TC and Tanto starting for me. Tanto, liked him a lot today tbh, not great to begin with but had a couple efforts on goal at least and a superb assist - should have had two - great engine on him and looks like one of those players that loves a good battle more starts please.

Anderson, poor on the ball but relentless off it, Cov, Doc and Anderson midfield to bring that press back, it ain't pretty and void of real quality but that's all we need right now.

And as for Brum, Stansfield, oh Stansfield utter little mug of a player, get in his face, wind the little ball bag up and sit back and enjoy the lolz.

We weren't great, they were better, we managed the game well, won that point and a great fking point it is.

Edit - extra mention to forgotten man Rankin- Costello who proved he can play a bit today, some more minutes and a clearer role and dare I say it... He could be like a new signing...

Pleased to see fire in our belly’s once again. Can’t say i have always been Anderson’s biggest fan but he showed today we can match teams of a higher quality than us if we are prepared to get our heads down and fight for everything. Plus the wiping out of Stansfield was top class.

i know Leaburn missed a sitter but i do feel sorry for him and Tanto. At times our midfield was totally missing, meaning the balls were just smashed forward at them. Thought their CB Klarer was a classy player and could deal with the long balls all day long. Right now it’s worrying how easy teams play through us, either directly through the middle or down the flanks

As always massive shoutout to Lloyd Jones he would honestly do anything for this club, there was a huge sigh of relief when I realised it was sickness and not a muscle injury

Beat Oxford on Saturday and we can all take a breathe and calm down, don’t worry addicks it’s all going to be okay

    He's simply awesome
He dashed by me on the Charlton wing
And all heads turned 'cause he was the cream
In the blink of an eye I saw his number and his name
He’s the tiger they want to tame
    Caribbean king
Now we're sharing the same dream
And our hearts they beat as one
No more bullshit criticism on Charlton Life
I lose my cool when they moan on this forum
And I get so excited when he shuts them up
    Unwarranted critism you can't ignore
And passion burns you like never before

    Just running my game

Got an email from Rich Cawley with interesting comments by NJ to the written press after the game. Don’t know what the protocol is on posting them here. Not from his substack as I don’t subscribe.

  • Great to see TC score. Probably the first time we've had a threatening attack on the right since Bree's first couple of games.

We all know its been a difficult run of games not helped by the injuries and as the team have struggled some of our players have not performed as well as we would hope but some of the abuse on today's match thread was shocking. Criticism doesn't have to be abusive. End of the day, 20 games in this squad has us 5 points clear of the drop zone, think most of us would have taken that at start of the season.

All those who have been piling on to TC should read NJ's responses today and feel ashamed of themselves. W..nkers who, it seems,  have never played football who could not see how central he has been to the team. I hope you are ashamed of yourselves.

He needs to learn to avoid the tossers. But understandable given the crap on this forum.

Great second half today, proper away performance and the rot finally stopped.

3 massive games coming up now, and hopefully that result will give them the boost.

Spoke to a few of the lads after the game, Coventry, Bree and Lloydy in particular, all in agreement the run has been poor, unfavourable fixtures, but they reckon today was massive and they believe they'll turn it around.

I am hoping today was last seasons Mansfield at home.

Lloyd Jones threw up pitchside then hence the delay getting him back on.
Mrs AFKA has a huge thing for Lloyd Jones.

I thought at first it was nothing to worry about and just the standard fan idolisation thing, but seeing him throw up today I’ve now growing concerns. She could well be cooking for him…

I’m sure he has the same for her 🥴
  • A much more cohesive performance in which we also rediscovered our battling strength of character.
I watched Norwich v Southampton prior to our game and Southampton's movement at times was absolutely superb.
Yet in the first half, we produced a move of similar quality, passing the ball from defence, through the midfield and attack in 5/6 passes that almost lead to a goal.
I hadn't seen such play from us in a very very long time and it proved that we are capable of playing very good football.
Hopefully that puts to bed the notion that TC simply HAS to start every game, because he "gets us up the pitch".

We had become far too one dimensional in only relying upon TC, who wasn't performing.

I'm sorry that's he's had to endure criticism, but I blame Jones more than TC for that, as he should have been rested many weeks ago.

Hopefully that goal has done TC the world of good and he can now start getting back to his best via the subs bench. He shouldn't take criticism personally because I'm sure all true fans really want to see him succeed.

But the future of the club is more important than any one individual player.

Much like Jones hand was forced last season to play in a different way, which eventually lead to promotion, I'm hopeful that yesterday's game may prove to be a similar turning point in our season.
  • Absolutely love this bloke btw, my centre back. Extend his contract till retirement here.

    Restraining order incoming ….
It's ok, Lloydy is used to dealing with stalkers.

Bit of a weird day for me, but one that turned out better than I'd expected....

I was due to travel to the match with @killerjerrylee & looking forward to the trip until late last night.

I always keep my match tickets in a specific drawer ( not drawers !) so left it until quite late to extract it & put it in my bag ready for this morning's departure....errr, where the heck had it gone ?

Since we moved here just 4 weeks ago, there has been series of " Where the **** has that gone ? " moments - so much so that we're wondering if we inherited a resident gremlin ! But searching high & low failed to reveal its hiding place so a call to our fellow Lifer broke the news that he sadly would be travelling alone.

So, we watched  the stream whilst I had one eye on my laptop for the YouTube coverage of the Dorking v Bath Cup match, made especially interesting by the debut of Pat Casey , who scored early on.

A somewhat concerning 45 minutes for our lads ( becoming a habit lately) with the Blues looking very sharp and well organised didn't auger too well for the Addicks but where there's life, there's.....

....a young player off the bench to lift our spirits !! Nice one, TC and well deserved !

Reading the thoughts of others on this thread who felt that B'Ham had sat back by then, under estimating the threat we posed, I'd venture that the spirit & determination of our team had taken its toll on the seemingly  boundless energy of the opposition. We became much more disciplined in our passing in the 2nd half & it would have been a travesty had the lads returned home pointless.

For me, Bree impressed more than in recent games, Tanto definitely stepped up & Karoy's energy made a huge difference. Kaminski pulled off several excellent saves & our defence looked more cohesive than it's been for a while. But who could forget our captain on the day ....We used to call Jacko " Captain Courageous " - step forward his successor, Lloyd Jones. I feared the worst - a head injury which could have been concussion with the worrying implications that would bring - but in Adam Coe we trust, and following a  good " going over", our leader stepped back into the fray, bless him. It takes more than a quick puke to deter him , thank goodness.

So, a well earned point to take us forward to next Saturday & the visit of Oxford. According to rumours, it's possible we might have a player or players returning from injury but we must wait & see. But today's performance should have lifted the spirits of players, coaching staff & supporters alike, along with some much needed confidence. Those of us not Xmas shopping will play our part at The Valley....

...if we remember to bring our tickets :|

    Onwards & upwards !!!

FF..As long as it’s Gremlins and not ghosts in the new house!  At least water was back on ! & you could multi-screen St Andrews and the mighty Meadowbank Dorking ground...I I do love Charlton TV on a cold December afternoon with the dynamic trio Greg & Tel & Brownie.....it was truly a game of two halves if ever there was one.

First half: glass very much half empty.
Second half: someone definitely spiked the half-time cuppa because our boys came out rip-roaring like they’d just been visited by the Ghost of Christmas Future.

Nathan deserves credit here. TC as the super-sub? We’ve seen how that movie ends before (hello Portman Road). He’s done some serious miles tearing up that wing, so saving him for the last 30 when defenders are blowing out of their backsides makes absolute sense. And what a joy to see TC get his goal written in festive lights.

Word is Nathan’s been consulting with his elves, and there might be an early Christmas present on the way… a few players threatening to be up and ready for Oxford Now that’s the sort of miracle we can all get behind. With away days looming at Norwich and Pompey, we’ll need at least six points from the three December fixtures......no coal in the stocking, thanks very much. Momentum, belief, and a squad slowly coming back from injury like Christmas presents under the tree. Gremlins behaved, ghosts banished, and the Addicks marching on. Roll on next Saturday ..... COYA's

Absolutely crucial point - I thought we were going to lose again today so to stop the rot at the first real opportunity is great work.

Win against Oxford and we are well and truly back on track.

We must not lose however - to lose would be very very bad.
