Club Statement - Fan Sadly Passed- Headphones Norm Barker RIP

Like many I never knew "Norm" but he was a face I recognised at The Valley and when I did away games. I also recall he was on one / some of the Sky fans shots, he was distinctive.
I can't get out of my mind his family and how no one goes to a football match never expected to return and the shock they did and are experiencing right now, my heart goes out to them and those that knew him.4 -
I’m sure he’s had quite the collection over the years, but these are the exact ones he was wearing at the Playoff Final.DA9 said:I have a suggestion for a fan lead tribute for the Oxford game, purchase a cheap pair of over ear headphones from an Asda or Poundland etc, wear them to the game and in the interim arrange with the club to drop them off near or in reception to donate to a kids charity in his memory.

Some of the tributes outside The Valley.

I can't remember the first game that I saw Norm at, as it was so many years ago, but every single time that I have seen him since he put a smile on my face and made me proud to support Charlton.
R.I.P Norm - A true Charlton Legend5 -
Maybe his seat should be ‘retired’ forever and an indelible symbol or image of him and his headphones placed on itMaking_all_the_noise said:A fella and his kid came in to buy the last of the flowers in the Sainsbury's local this morning. No prizes for guessing where they've all ended up. If you want to bring some along to the game on Tuesday, make sure to pick some up before you get to the ground. A small shrine is by the North stand memorial wall near to the museum.
Will be good to be around familiar faces on Tuesday. I really feel for you guys in the North lower near Norm's seat. That vacant seat for the rest of the season is going to be really hard to face. Truly hope you guys are bearing up OK after the shock of yesterday.12 -
At a time like this, it’s natural for emotions to run high as all Charlton fans are in shock and feelings are still so raw. But before decisions are made about how best to honour Norm’s life, we must allow space for calm, reflection, and respect. His family, friends, and those who sat close to him in the lower covered end and saw him over many miles he travelled following his favourite team at away grounds. We all need time to grieve, to gather our thoughts, and to begin to make sense of such a sudden loss.
In the weeks and months ahead, a fitting tribute can be shaped, whether that takes the form of a memorial, a charitable initiative, or another lasting way to mark Headphone Norm’s place in Charlton history. What matters most is that whatever is done is guided by care, dignity, and the wishes of those who knew him best. For now, we have to trust that our club will be considering an appropriate way to acknowledge Norm on Tuesday night at the Boro match, giving all Addicks the chance to come together in unity and respect.
Headphone Norm will not be forgotten just like Seb hasn't, these are two fans who have the lasting and lifelong respect from the Charlton family. Norms spirit, his passion, and his long-standing devotion to Charlton Athletic will live on in the covered end and throughout the Valley, he loved so dearly. But today, we pause. We breathe. And we remember him with the quiet appreciation he deserves. RIP Norm.

I really dont know how you guys who sat near Norman are going to get through the coming matches.I have sat in the AC stand since day one ,several dear people who started out the same time as me have gone, and it is always sad to see the vacated seat .But these people have passed with friends and family around them, not left home to watch a game and never return.
I didnt know Norman, but like most people I saw him a lot on the travels years ago when I attended away games,he just seemed a fixture of the clubs support.I do remember seeing him on tv at a night game at Newcastle which was called off at the last minute,he was still smiling in that "oh well" manner
R.I.P. Norman, also respect to the Boro fans for their kind comments.3 -
Are there any pics of him at the BTTV game?0

This weekend I have spoken to people in Spain, France and Australia - along with fans of Spurs, WHU and Sunderland, about Norm and the terrible news. All of whom had spoken with him at one time or another. Such was the size of the football footprint that Norm had made.17

Thats got me. I know in reality we all know there are things in life that are bigger than football. But it’s a sign of the man that he is getting love and respect from all across the football pyramid todayNot all bad.RIP Norm, a Legend from my youth.2 -

Or at the very least similar to the seat in the AC Stand for PC Henry, coloured different to those around it and with a plaque on it commemorating NormDOUCHER said:

So so sad, it was heartbreaking to see, but I don’t know who he was but to the young lad who continued to do CPR, as they took Norm out to the ambulance, you sir are a inspiration.17

This is a real shock, my friend just phoned me with the very very sad news.
Proper Addick, the accolade 'legend' is a massive understatement, always OK for a chat, an ever present, no defeat ever really upset him, he'd seen it all more than once. Many many miles had he travelled
R I P Norm my friend2 -
True that mate. First paramedic I’ve ever seen with an Aquascutum scarf.northstandsteve said:So so sad, it was heartbreaking to see, but I don’t know who he was but to the young lad who continued to do CPR, as they took Norm out to the ambulance, you sir are a inspiration.1 -

I think you are right to be suspicious about this @Weegie Addick. Three reasons:Weegie Addick said:

1. Why would Portsmouth go UDI on this?
2. If they did, surely it would be mentioned in their news pages, if not their home page.
3. If having been in the Portsmouth FC website https://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/ you then manually type in the rest of that web page address you get a 404 error for each section of that crumb trail including the full address.
Thank you!1 -
Sorry @Beckboy, appreciate that you were posting in good spirit, but I've removed your post just in case, as I wouldn't want to risk anyone getting caught out. I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunity for people who want to, to donate later on when more information is known about the wishes of his family.3

I’ve seen on Facebook that Portsmouth fans have started their own fundraiser for Norm, already at 2k. I think it’s been pretty clear over the last 24 hours a section of their fanbase let the club down, but the fundraiser is nice to see.1
-
I expect messages from people still at the club, but Dean Holden is such a classy human being.11

Unsure if already posted, just heard on Radio Solent that a Pompey fan has started a go fund me page and raised £2k already… great to hear 👌0
-
I’m sure people mean well, but you can’t just set up a fundraiser ‘in memory of’ someone and not say what you’re going to do with the money you receive!3

Saw a tweet from Chris Armstrong the ex palace player also.cfgs said:I expect messages from people still at the club, but Dean Holden is such a classy human being.1
