    PWR.

6 points off play offs. 6 points off relegation. Perhaps some of those with their rose tinted specs might take them off & look at the table
    RWW

You forget that if I take them off, I can no longer see the table.

So do we have a great Academy or not?  What's the point of it all if when you have an injury crisis you cant bring in someone from the "yoof".

And then all this guff about they are too young & inexperienced. How old was Bowyer  Shelvey or Gomez ??  The first 2 were just 16. And if they aren't good enough to fill in for a handful of games then get rid & use the loan market instead.
Bloke's really got the bit between his teeth and building up a head of steam tonight ......
Golfie, it's clear that you want your football team to have goal scorers and for the team to play more expansive football. We have the lowest wage bill in the league and to compete with teams that are paying six million for forwards is unlikely, so we have to unearth gems. That being the case if we open up against sides there is a likelihood that we will get beaten, that erodes confidence and losing becomes a nasty habit that's hard to break. It may not please you fella but keeping it tight is the best way, for now, to proceed.

They gave a performance today and regained some pride. The midfield competed, it didn't in the previous two games and when we had our shape and wing backs on, we carried a threat, scored and should have got a second but Olaofe is 'the son of spongefoot'. Once we lose Bell, we have to reshape and we never quite carried the same threat. We need the injured players to return and Rousillion to be a hidden gem, we are sat mid table, six points off the play offs and six points of the drop zone, I would have settled for that at this stage.

    We're not mid table.

3 even rarer (once this season).

So I'll just shut up & hope that it will magically change.
The magic is your oldest nephew. He has been to two games this season including the 3-0 with 6 points won. He has still never seen Charlton lose.

No problem keeping it tight. I quite understand that. The problem is when we do manage to advance there is no real end product. TC is quick & drags us up the pitch but he is not cutting in & shooting like he did last season & has just 1 assist all season (although might get given another 1 today). So when we do finally get a chance of scoring nothing really happens. Just look at our XG.

But as you say, I'm wanting dreamland. I'm wanting my team to excite...bums off seats & all that jazz.

Just forget about me. I'm an old fossil and just need to crawl back under my rock.

You seem really unlucky with the people who happen to be around you at matches recently. Hope you're ok.
I have mostly just been observing idiots, without being directly involved.

Being hit by a hard projectile at Wrexham was the only other incident where anything has actually happened to me, but that was just aimed at our fans in general and could just have easily have hit somebody else.

Wrexham AFC seems to approve of their supporters doing that based on both the stewards response and the fact that they haven't even acknowledged my report.

Charlton away support is getting more moronic every game.  These cretins are pathetic. Love to see  them in a one on one fight. Club should ban them.
With knowledge that has came to light since my post, I believe all three fans have been arrested (the first assaulted police officers, so is screwed).

Since the police know who they are, the club will and all three are likely to be banned.

Am sorry to hear you had an unpleasant experience today.
Unfortunately football fans can leave their brains(if they have them) at home when they go to matches.

Since Bell's injury, not too long ago, we have tried TC and Onel, both right footed wingers and Ramsay a right footer, and perhaps Fullah, a winger. All round pegs in square holes.

Yet in our U21s, the top player is possibly Enslin, an experienced 20yo LWB who doesn't even make the squad when we cant name a defender on the bench, despite Bell being an injury risk.

    WTF is going on?
In what sense exactly is Enslin ‘experienced’?

Hope youre ok, that sounds awful. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, if theres one thing away games tell you it's that just because someone supports Charlton it doesn't mean you'll have anything else in common with them, or even want to like them as a person.
Yeah, had a neighbour I could not stand. Proper prick. Anyway met him as we all had to wait to get out of the den a few years back. The fact we lost 4 nil and then meeting him and finding out he was Charlton just made the day that much worse.

Could have been worse and found out he was a spanner.

The pressure hasn't really been on this season, due to points consistently accrued from the opening day. We could afford an off day or two... and they've been taken! I'm only talking a 5% drop off, but that's more than enough to be noticeable. Throw in the injuries - none of which I see as bad luck over the course of a season - and we are where we are.

The pressure is now on - no bad thing, maybe we needed it to find us.

We competed in the game today, that's a corner turned. I'm positive about our fortunes, expecting us to fully compete in the Portsmouth game, get something from it, and carry on that way through December.

Unleash the 'Snifferdog' in the next week or two I hope. Wondering if it's worth considering bringing back Mbick in January or leaving him there, it's looking to have improved his development quite a bit.

It was always going to be tough to get something out of this game but until Bell went off I thought we were the better team and were starting to control the game. But, why on earth replace him with a forward. Surely Rankin, Docherty or Anderson would have fitted in better. That I couldn’t understand and it was hard work from then on.

Our main aim is to stay up and I think we have enough to do that but to lose 4 on the bounce, and easily as well, is not a comfortable feeling. The next 2 at home are crucial.

We signed injury prone but proven championship players Like Bell and Burke because we are a newly promoted team. Anyone will struggle with 4 of their first team out so stick with the team and the manager, he’ll get us safe

HMS Piss the League is in dry dock at the moment getting her barnacles removed.

    We might want to disembark.

Apparently, HMS Stick Around the League Like a Bad Smell is needing some able men in want of adventure...

The only trouble on the matchday thread is when we are losing, some on the thread start getting argumentative with each other. They forget about the game and turn the thread into a row.
Please, in future, if you do not agree with anothers view, so what, we all have our own opinions, I know some of mine turns out to be wrong.
Let us keep the matchday thread to comments on the game. Thank you

I'm also failing to see how we are so much better off than the 19/20 season, while I do agree that we can at least rectify this in January and we won't be ruined by a loan signing being recalled, the parallels are definitely there
We have the same number of wins, draws, losses, points as this time last season (6/5/7/23 from 18) and we ended up getting promoted.

We won’t get promoted this year but the point is there’s still 84 more points up for grabs and much can still change.

There is a very long way to go before we start drawing parallels with any previous seasons.
I understand the rose tinted view …. But in League 1 the opposition don’t have subs on the bench who cost more than several of our first team players….we are constantly swimming against the tide …

Much much better .. really should have been three up on this game and then later 2-2 when Carey should have scored … but again Lady Luck not in our side and losing Bell just changed everything again we had square pegs in round holes .. Bree was completely lost and surprise first goal came down that side , and Carey turning his back on the scorer was all they needed … lots of positives but next week now is a must not lose game ….
  • Think lots of people got ahead of themselves when we were getting decent results. Survival is still the aim. We’ve put ourselves in a good position to do that with how we started the season. Pick up 10-11 points for December would hopefully see us in good stead. Hopefully injuries come back sooner rather than later because there was a good team at surface level

Couple of points just from reading up to page 3 of this thread...

Some of you lot need to calm the feck down. We were never going to win the last 3 games, Injuries have played a massive part this last month. 21st place or above is the sole aim, with the resourses we have. We will get stronger. Our points return so far is bloody excellent.

The poor fella who got hurt by the muggy fan climbing all over him to make 'big man' gestures at the home support, I'd of slapped the fuk out of him for ya mate, it's bullying, the arsehole. Can't stand that shit, who the feck do these pricks think they are? Hope you're alright mate.

    Rant over.

It’s in the tough times you find out who you can count on.

Let’s be honest it’s been a bit of a reality check. Four tough games on the bounce, a few wobbly moments, and yes, at times we’ve looked about as protected as Lady Godiva riding through Coventry...very much so after Bell limped off!

But let’s not lose the plot......four games don’t define a season. We were in the League One wilderness not too long ago. Nathan’s got the Valley rocking again, high tempo, belief, passion, and we’ve actually got a bit of style againeven when the scoreline doesn’t go our way.

First 20+ mins brilliant.... End-to-end, high-octane, both teams going for it. Then Bell goes off, Miles came on, and let’s just say the wheels wobbled like a shopping trolley with a wonky wheel. Young Leaburn, it is time to shift up a gear (or three), he needs to look at a few old videos of a certain Chartlon legend Carl.... & get a pep talk from dad to get that ignition to spark.

Am I bothered we lost? Of course.
Am I going to start slating Nathan or the lads? Not a chance.

Football is a mad, unpredictable beast. Anything could happen from here on. Nathan is one who will be banging his head against the wall,  and getting out his prayer mat and chewing his fingernails to the bone. But this is the ride were on, and its times like this the players need the Valley to lift them......Pompey next. The Valley. Our place. Our noise. Our team. COYA's !

100% - well said that man - next week, as i remember some old fella sat next to us in 97 / 98 ish - we bomb em with noise and balls - COYR!!!

Seemed to me that Jones had the Plan B “Leaburn for Bell if gets injured” plan ready to go  - what it didn’t take into account was the chaos TC & Oloafe were causing in the Coventry defence - that was as good a pairing as we’ve had upfront all season.

Oloafe gets some stick but for me he’s the one & only specialist striker we have that runs at defenders, hustles and gets into goal scoring positions - I think lack of fitness/match sharpness is letting him down.

TC also runs at defenders but his effectiveness as a striker is diluted when his partner is as static as Leaburn, out wide he can for sure create havoc but he also leaves us very exposed when, as happens more often than not, he loses possession.

Jones has some real work to do - the new guy hasn’t played all year - he’ll take some time to get fit - I’ll be surprised if he, like Hernandez, doesn’t look out of shape & ideas for the first few matches.

We're a decent mid table side with a fully fit squad, which is quite an achievement considering our budget.
I'm not going to start complaining yet.
  • Can't fault the effort the lads put in. It was such a shame that Bell had to go off. Like others, I was baffled by the Leaburn substitution. It made no sense and completely ruined our rhythm and shape. Until then we were doing well.
Was talking to a Cov fan on the way back and he commented that we were not close to being the worst team they have played at home. That prize goes to Norwich apparently!
I so hope we can put this run of games behind us and pick up a few points soon. My concern is not getting the injured players back soon enough.
