I thought we did ok against a clearly superior team.

Tried hard and relatively well disciplined.  Bell going off was a massive issue for us.

I don't like the song but never have the words "xxxxxx's a shit hole, I want to go home" been more apt.

That city needs something to give it hope as it has absolutely nothing going for it.
Apart from a very good football team.

was at the stoke game and when he came on he just didnt look up to it at all slow and not switched on, i get we were down 3 goals by that point but surely a bit of fight to force your way into the team?

They gave a performance today and regained some pride. The midfield competed, it didn't in the previous two games and when we had our shape and wing backs on, we carried a threat, scored and should have got a second but Olaofe is 'the son of spongefoot'. Once we lose Bell, we have to reshape and we never quite carried the same threat. We need the injured players to return and Rousillion to be a hidden gem, we are sat mid table, six points off the play offs and six points of the drop zone, I would have settled for that at this stage.

Kanu making a point again I see
Kanu isn’t the answer to the question we’re trying to solve. He will look more lost than TC, Leaburn and Olaofe do.
Depends if that question is: "Which Charlton loanee is scoring lots for Walsall"... ;)

Yet another game where I found myself surrounded by some of our worst fans.

After Knibbs scored, the guy to my left climbed onto his seat and kept kicking my seat down with his other foot, with it repeatedly hitting my leg. He then jumped on top of me, putting his full weight onto the back of me neck. I am still in pain and that could have ended up a whole lot worse for me.

Why did he do this? Well, he wanted to hit some Coventry fans and I was blocking his path to them. He got past after almost breaking my neck and continued his way towards the Coventry fandom. He was immediately stopped by the police, but kept trying to push past them to get into the home end. He was immediately removed from the ground.

His mate then tried telling me that it wasn't his mate that has had jumped on top of me, but somebody behind. Of course it wasn't. I saw him...

A few minutes later, his mate tells those around him that, if we score a second, I am to get battered as it's my fault their friend was arrested by the police. Again, it wasn't. I doubt the police were even aware of the fact that he jumped on top of me. It was him trying to climb into the home end that got him arrested.

Five minutes before the end, another one of this guy's mates wants to get into the home end to beat up a child... It looked like this guy was also going to be arrested, so the guy who had arranged to have me battered earlier went down and involved himself. My view was obstructed after that, so I don't know if they were also arrested or were just told to leave.

6 points off play offs. 6 points off relegation. Perhaps some of those with their rose tinted specs might take them off & look at the table.

We are bang in trouble. Only good thing is that we play 3 of the teams that are below us in December. Next week is a must win game. No ifs & no buts. Same against Oxford 2 weeks later.

I would also bang on about our goals scored column. But as I regularly get called out for mentioning it I'll leave it there. But to me it's a bigger worry than our goals conceded......because we know that we will defend properly again once we get players back from injury. Up the other end its same old same old.

December is now massive. We need to win our home games & not lose against Norwich. Get to Jan 1st with 32/33 points and we can relax again.

A city perpetually in the shadow of its larger neighbour, Birmingham. And that's a place that can't even sort their own bins out.

Bit of criticism today for NJ. I don’t want him out, I like him, however he needs to think about a few things.

First 25 he got spot on. Apart from that he just makes the same mistakes. Players are just shoehorned into odd positions.

System shouldn’t have changed. We removed all threat by pulling Tanto and TC back.

Leaburn up top allowed them to play their high line without worry. Less said about Leaburn the better I’m afraid.

TC as a LWB or whatever that role is has to stop. TC is not a perfect footballer, but he looks dangerous at least when he’s up top. Defenders are wary of him and he presses well.

3 tough games over - now the season really starts. We have to get it right from here or we’ll be in a bit of trouble.

    Some fair points there.

I'd add a couple more questions:_

    1) Burke and Bell are class defenders. They have also been in recent seasons walking sicknotes. Why sign them if they are going to be injured for long periods?

Because if they weren’t injury prone we wouldn’t have been able to afford them.
I'm sure you're right but it doesn;t matter how cheap they were if they are injured for huge parts of the season.

    (1) We're bang in trouble until we're mathematically safe... Same the other way around, those who are pathetically saying that we're pretty much down already need to give their head a bit of a wobble.

    (2) If anyone thinks we can relax until we're mathematically safe, they're equally an idiot.

    (3) I get what you mean about our Goals Scored column being shite, but we're a team that clearly builds from the back... We've clearly looked toothless of late, because we're missing Defenders, we've got no balance in the team, once we've got defenders back, we'll clearly start to look the side that was in and around the Play-Offs early on (We looked like that side today with Bell on the pitch) - Football isn't some simple case of Subbuteo, putting the pieces in the right places, and individuals focusing on their designated jobs... Lose one piece of the puzzle, and its impossible to end up with a complete picture.

Jones got it wrong with the subs. Olaofe’s pace was causing them problems, the system change was correct because we couldn’t have done anything else. But it should have been Apter on for Bell, and leave Olaofe up front

Olaofe on the wing was one of the most painful things I’ve ever watched. He had absolutely no clue what he was doing and lost his man constantly. He can also only run for 45 minutes, got to question some of these lads fitness if in November they still aren’t up to speed

TC was abysmal. Really was. He needs dropping. Offers nothing, looks weak and ineffective.

They're 10 points clear at the top with +32 goal difference. They've got much better players than us. I feel frustrated watching us lose but are we supposed to go to their ground and beat them...? Rudoni alone is much better than anyone we've got. None of our strikers are fit to lace Ellis Simms boots. They'll be playing prem football next season we've just came up from League One. Can't read too much into games like this.

Until Bell went off we more than matched them imo.  End to end stuff at times.
However, in the second half Coventry played within themselves and could have come unstuck if Carey had scored, which he should have at least put on target.
That aside, Coventry could still have come out of this winning 5-1.  They will walk this league so we have to take the positives from the first 30 minutes.
December can see us having breathing space from the relegation zone or right in amongst it come the end of the month.

Trying to stay positive but feel really deflated with it all. Hopefully the players have a bit more bollocks about them than I do. Injuries killing us we can be competitive in the league but 4 losses in a row is painful.

    Powderpuff in places again.

Sick of TC doing nothing for 90 minutes. Sadly, I think we have too many league one players In our side and not enough bite.

Ref is pretty hot though in this.
  • Frustrating in the sense that we didn't have that new signing on the bench, especially with Bell's injury problems.

Those first 20mins though, show that if we can start getting some balance (something I've been banging on about for the last week now), and start getting players in their proper positions, well we should start to climb the League table again. The moment Bell went off, and our problems were made obvious for all to see, and the balance in the team disappeared

A bit like a year ago, again I've said this already, and Nathan Jones is forcing himself (needlessly this week, had we used Roussillon) to piss about, not just with the formation, but shoe-horning individuals into roles that are negating their strengths.
Why are we all presuming Roussillon was fit to play and NJ didn’t put him on the bench to be awkward. He hasn’t hardly played for over a year, if we’d thrown him on I could’ve imagined him doing his hamstring.

Because if he's been training with us for a few weeks, as we were told, you'd think that the announcement, was the clubs way of saying: "Yup lets get him a Contract, and into the team"

Yep......same old posters having a dig at me personally & not addressing the issues.

If you actually think about what I post you might see it makes sense. A month ago lots of posters were dreaming of the top 6 & seemingly weren't worried that we can't score in a brothel.

It's not the 4 defeats that is the worry.....and not even the fact that in 2 of those we were pummeled. There is reason for that which we a understand.

The issue, and has been from the start of the season, is our lack of striking ambition. Many teams today went a goal down today & quite a few of them turned it around & ended up winning. I'm not just talking about Coventry, but WBA, Norwich & Millwall. All 4 managed to turn around a deficit by scoring 3 to win. We are lucky to score 1 in a game. 2 is rare. 3 even rarer (once this season).

Therefore, as has been pointed out over quite a few seasons now, is that if we concede first we are highly unlikely to get anything from the game. A draw at best. So keeping it tight is an obvious answer & served us well early on in the season. We were then fortunate that we won a couple of games by scoring a last minute winner. Now that our defence is all at sea we cant rely on that fact.

But once again I am taking to thin air. So I'll just shut up & hope that it will magically change. That our front 2 of TC & Leaburn who have scored just once between them all season will suddenly find their shooting boots against Pompey & Oxford.
  • We can all blame TC but what do you expect when you play someone who has played winger/striker all his life at lwb. What’s killed us is signing injury prone players that can’t play all season. We all knew that Burke/Bell/Edwards wouldn’t last and it’s killed us.

Since Bell's injury, not too long ago, we have tried TC and Onel, both right footed wingers and Ramsay a right footer, and perhaps Fullah, a winger. All round pegs in square holes.

Yet in our U21s, the top player is possibly Enslin, an experienced 20yo LWB who doesn't even make the squad when we cant name a defender on the bench, despite Bell being an injury risk.

    WTF is going on?

Enslin isn't technically a Left-Back either is he?

He also looked vulnerable himself, when playing that role during Pre-Season
