Perhaps that is all we can sign. Experienced defenders who play game in game out cost money. We signed a lot of players who were out of contract - and there is a reason why they are so.addick_for_life said:

It is clear that Lampard has built this team around the midfield. They are streets ahead of any team in the league. The youth players are nowhere close to Champ level. Neither are the Mitchells We need to reinforce at the back to survive. Given the injury records of our defenders it would be suicidal to get to the end of January with the same set. If Carey had passed to TC sooner, there was a good chance that TC was getting in behind the Coventry backline... Instead he's forced to check because he was offside - Carey was someone we signed, so why isnt he getting pelters for missing the opportunity?
Yet if Campbell wasn't on the pitch, we wouldn't have gone 0-1 up - Or I suspect you'd think that someone else would have magically had been in the same spot, to find the ball through to Knibbs even if it was a bit lucky
