+++ Jérôme Roussillon Signs on a short term deal +++
Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Guadeloupe international Jérôme Roussillon.
The 32-year-old left-sided defender arrives with a wealth of experience having made almost 400 career appearances, 20 of which have come in the Champions League and the Europa League.
After putting pen to paper on a short-term contract, Roussillon said: "I’m really happy to be here and be part of the team. I’m excited to get started and can’t wait to play in front of our supporters."
Manager Nathan Jones commented: "We’re delighted to be able to bring in someone with Jérôme’s experience. We’ve obviously been light in that area with the injury to Josh Edwards and it’s the only position that we haven’t really got cover on, so we’re please to bring Jérôme in to give us more competition and quality in that area."
Born in Sarcelles, France, Roussillon began his professional career at Sochaux before joining Ligue 1 side Montpellier in 2015.
After three seasons with Montpellier, the defender moved to German top-flight outfit VfL Wolfsburg, where he would taste European football for the first time.
Roussillon switched Wolfsburg for fellow Bundesliga side Union Berlin in January 2023 and helped Die Eisernen earn a fourth-place finish in his debut season to secure Champions League football.
He has also represented France at U18 and U20 level and earned eight senior caps for Guadeloupe, scoring twice.
Roussillon has been signed in time to be eligible for the Addicks' trip to Coventry City on Saturday.

Clearly capable of playing at a high level. 7 games in the last 1.5 seasons ..8

Hernandez 2.0?4

Tres formidable.0

Edwards must be out longer than anticipated which is a shame he was having a good season.21
-
Don't mind this at all. Played all of his career at a good level and would let Bell play LCB.8
-
Decent experience in a position we need someone, with some big games coming up6
-
Fine. We need someone there and while he obviously wasn't in favour last season it was still the Bundesliga he was playing in. We couldn't have gone on this way with absolutely no-one to play there so we can hopefully put him in without risking rushing Bell back before he's ready and making his injury worse.9

No idea what he's like now but was one of the top wing backs in the bundesliga a few years ago and rapid. Hope the gamble pays off13

Anything that saves me having to see Gillesphey at LB is welcome.25

Never heard of him (not that that means anything).
Hopefully helps shore up our defence.7 -
Quick, strong and a decent all rounder on FM, hopefully his legs haven’t gone.5

As always with deals like this the main question is why was he available in late November?6

Start of January I would expect.Bedsaddick said:how long is a “ short term deal “ ?2 -
Put some respect on the name. He's the only reason we're playing Coventry tomorrow.Croydon said:Anything that saves me having to see Gillesphey at LB is welcome.40 -
Badly needed, welcome Jerome!

My mate who is a Wolfsburg and Union Berlin season ticket holder said this geezer is mustard. very quick, good on the ball and loves to get forward.
He also added that this was 4 years ago and hasnt got a clue about him now.37 -
My Union Berlin supporting mate reckons he's alright.5
-
Nathan must rate him to have him in for 5 weeks, and expect to see him in action Saturday in that case...0

This is such a bizarre appointment, if you told me 5 or 6 years ago we'd be signing Roussillon I'd have flat out laughed in your face4
-
That definitely lessens the pressure on Bell to play too many minutes. He clearly has the ability, but does he have the necessary fitness and sharpness? Away to Coventry is as hard an introduction as you can get.

It does seem that his lack of minutes last season was due to not getting in the team, rather than injuries.
