How are we conceding multiple goals within minutes in the first half to conceding zero in the second half two games in a row? I know teams might take their foot off the gas if they’re up by multiple goals but it’s a bit frustrating imagine if we kept it tight at halftime like we normally do.

I’m no footballing Einstein but it’s fair to say if we need to introduce pace and dynamism off of the bench maybe JRC isn’t your man.

Tough watch. That early fluke goal was the worst thing that could possibly have happened with confidence being so fragile but I think the way we played an early goal was coming either way. We are really, really suffering without a balanced defence as that's what everything is built on. The midfield lacks quality but gets a platform to compete built by the defence. With that gone they completely out of their depth and it means Carey and the strikers are totally out of the game. Losing Edwards and Bell at the same time is a killer and going back to the old Charlton tradition of not having a left back is very frustrating. If Bell is back to play LWB on Saturday then that will stop Gillesphey's lack of pace being exposed so badly and hopefully we can be a bit more stable. It's not great playing Coventry next but it's Pompey the game after that we need to be ready for, that's a big, big game. The lesson I hope has been learned from this is we cannot function without a solid defence and in January we need to make sure that we prepare better for this kind of situation. Longer term the midfield needs to improve but shaking off the last couple of games and getting back the key players is what we need, then we can move past it and get some more points on the board and calm down a bit.
The reality is that losing 3-0 away at the end of November to a team seriously in the hunt for promotion goes with the territory in your first season up, it just hurts having it come straight after that disastrous home game. We'll move on.

Fluke first goal .. foul on Jones for second and missed header from Ramsey .. summed up our night it’s not going our way .. NJ team line up questionable and we then had 4 different systems so no wonder we looked disjointed but again looked better when we went 4141 … I say it now you know we are going to beat Coventry on Saturday .. that’s football

The foul on Jones should have still been recoverable.

I don’t think it was that bad. Two freak goals (one of them due to Kaminski). We are missing Edwards and Bell terribly, and as another poster already said, Gillesphy was left horribly exposed until Ramsey was moved across. I’m more worried about us up front, where we desperately need Kelman and Godden to be available. Still confident that we will stay up reasonably comfortably.

I’m quite worried because even the couple of recent ish games we got points in we didn’t play well (Swansea and West Brom). We were abysmal tonight - fine Stoke are a good team and I’m not expecting a draw even, but we looked like a poor league 1 team.

Summer recruitment starting to look suspect. £750k on Rankin Costello is the pick of the bunch - runs like he’s towing a caravan.

Did Golfie get two yellows or a straight red? Is he back for Saturday?

    Verdict: 3-match ban.

Edit: 2-games converted to suspended games because anyway you cut it Golfie sells tickets….
He don’t believe in defending so he won’t be wanting to play left back!!
Golfie played a lot of  Sunday League football - for a season or two in a team I founded and played in. He played mostly right back, sometimes at left back, believe it or not. If he went into the opposition half he got a nosebleed.

Not even going to address that shit show.

8 goals conceded since the return from the international break with our worst 2 performances of the season. Who’s next? Coventry away who have scored 47 goals in 17 games and are 10 points clear at the top. Fuck my life. Took us 36 games last season to score 47 goals.

4 losses on the bounce come 5pm Saturday. We’re bang in trouble.
We are not in trouble we have players coming back and we will be most likey the position we will finish the season in around 15/17th which we would have bitten the person hand off offering us that in July …. Calm down

  • Docherty again the most poor player does nothing but run around like a headless chicken passing backwards

    We’ve gone.
L1 team that’s been punching above its weight so far.
Poor passing, low confidence, no creativity.
Will have to swallow Cov as 4th defeat on the trot and try to get a draw against Pompey, to start a new run.

Before this week, our defensive has taken away from the fact that despite all these attacking signings, we are hopeless up top.

It's not the losing, but the manner. It's going to be a long run into Christmas.

Injuries and this particular mini run of fixtures was always going to end in the tears. Get the key players back and couple of quality additions in January, and we will be absolutely fine.

First goal was a fluke. Second was a foul on Jones in the build up. Third was an abomination but game was gone.

We have to stick with this team. They’ve given us an incredible 12 months.
They’re not a bad team overnight.

I really hope the fanbase have a bit of class and pick the boys up when they’re down, not whinge like spoilt children at the first sign of a bad run.

Please, everyone have some perspective and a bit of loyalty to the cause.

TC, Leaburn, Docherty and Gillesphey all need to be dropped. If we’re sentimental we’ll be back in league one. Also, Mannion can’t be any worse than Kaminski.

Owners need to get their cheque book out now for January otherwise we’re doomed.

    For who?

I think the best thing about tonight is that Norwich and Oxford only got 1 point closer to us.

Feels like it needs more than 2 signings in Jan to fix things. Obviously wingbacks need to be addressed badly but the middle of the park and a bit more creativity wouldn't go amiss. Can have Kelman and Godders back fit but they're not going to be effective without service. A fit again Edwards, Burke and Bell would help things a bit though in terms of shape.

Struggling to see what Harvey Knibbs or JRC bring to the side really.

Kaminski is a liability, and I've thought that for some time now. Doesn't claim crosses, palms the ball out into danger, and then tonight's calamity. We paid a million for him, is that right ? Jeez.

I do feel like the defensive injuries & recent fragilities paper over the cracks of us being ineffective in attack, aside from Carey, we’re lacking quality on the ball and none of any of the other attacking players are showing that they’re good enough to play a whole season at this level.

Fair enough when you look at the last 3 sides we’ve faced and the money spent on paper we would/should always have lost our last 3 games but it’s obvious that we still need to create more chances & put the ball in the net as well.
  • Keep the faith, guys & gals.

Gird those loins & get behind the lads in this difficult patch.

Think we need to keep calm, we are having a bad time all around and we all know why, we may have more pain to come but it’s now we need to stick with NJ and the team, at the moment I have faith that Nathan will get us going again once the injuries clear up. We’ve proved we can get results, maybe we’ve been sussed a bit, but we also have dropped in intensity due to changes in our lineup. Its now the fans are needed most, not just when things are going well. Let’s suck it up and go again.

Don't let the highs get you too high and the lows too low.

Fact of the matter is we conceded three goals to a .38 xG in that first half. When your luck is out, it's out.

But also, the injuries are really taking their toll. A lack of a left sided defender really exposes Macca, who is slow at the best of times. I'm hoping Bell will be fit for Saturday and that will go a long way toward putting us back in a formation we're familiar with.

We’ve been using our defensive strength as a crutch and it hides the fact that we lack quality up front and in midfield. Now that the defense is in shambles the whole team is falling apart.

Keep the faith and the strong levels of support...it’s needed.

It seems the stronger teams have figured out how to exploit our man-to-man system. They’ve also done their homework on how rarely we recover after conceding the first goal, and are hitting us hard early on.
