MATCH THREAD : Stoke City V Charlton Athletic : Tuesday 25th November 2025 : KO 19:45
Hi everyone, here we go with another Match Thread…
The team and travelling Addicks have a long trip on the road tonight and a visit to The Potteries and a match at The Bet 365 Stadium with Stoke City, not a great trip on a cold November evening after the debacle from Saturday, but we needed to get back on the pitch asap.
So, Stoke City sit in 3rd spot, four points above us, and in a comfortable position but suffered a weekend loss at The King Power Stadium when Leicester City were 2-1 winners, so they are on a losing streak…😉
HEAD-TO-HEAD…The two teams have locked horns on 64 previous occasions, with us winning 25, the Potters winning 27 and the remaining 12 encounters resulting in draws, so on paper at least, pretty evenly matched, the last meeting came at the bet365 Stadium in February 2020, when the hosts ran out 3-1 victors.
Team selection will be crucial, but probably enforced again due to the ongoing injury list, one person we missed Saturday, Bree is now available for selection after missing out against his parent club Saturday, and along with Bell and Edwards part of our depleted defence options.
The hosts will be without Lewis Baker (ankle) and Sam Gallagher (calf).
We'll be sporting our popular Reebok third kit tonight, now come on lads let's just put Saturday behind us, and get back to the Charlton we all know so well...🙌
Team news…
Luke Berry will make his first start of the season…
James Bree, who wasn’t eligible for Saturday’s game against his parent club Southampton, also returns to the starting XI as Nathan Jones makes two changes.
There is also a place on the substitutes bench for Amari’i Bell, who is in the squad for the first time since limping off against Swansea City at The Valley earlier this month
Kayne Ramsay, Lloyd Jones, Macaulay Gillesphey start in a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.
Should the Addicks play in the five-box-one formation used against Wrexham then Bree and Tyreece Campbell would operate as wing-backs. Berry would likely join Conor Coventry, skipper Greg Docherty and Sonny Carey in a box midfield behind Miles Leaburn.
Bell is joined on the bench by Will Mannion, Keenan Gough, Karoy Anderson, Joe Rankin-Costello, Harvey Knibbs, Rob Apter, Ibrahim Fullah and Tanto Olaofe.
Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Bree, Coventry, Docherty (c), Campbell; Carey, Berry; Leaburn
Subs: Mannion, Gough, Bell, Anderson, Rankin-Costello, Knibbs, Apter, Fullah, Olaofe

The very epitome of a cold Tuesday night away at Stoke. Especially after a 5-1 home humbling a few days earlier. Back to basics and a hard fought 0-0 would be the order of the day. COYRs

Bell makes the bench. Lineup suggests box midfield with Campbell at LWB to me0
-
4-4-2 diamond it is then
Bell back on the bench is very good news2 -
5-box-1 for meCallumcafc said:4-4-2 diamond it is then

Can’t tell if it’s a back four with Ramsay at LB and a diamond midfield or if Campbell is at LWB0
-
Assuming that’s TC at LWB, Berry as a 10 behind Leaburn?0

Docherty seriously and still no tanto
Another spanking incoming2 -
Not sure how I feel about macca and jones as a cb pairing in a back four there’s a severe lack of pace but at least this proves NJ is willing to switch it up and I’m happy to see Berry starting.0

I can see the box instead of diamond but 5 at the back plus two holding midfielders would be far too defensive IMO, we’d just get picked off.fenaddick said:

Good to see Bree back, and Bell on the bench...0

Doubt it’s a back four. Bree and TC the wing backs I’d imagine.aso914 said:Not sure how I feel about macca and jones as a cb pairing in a back four there’s a severe lack of pace but at least this proves NJ is willing to switch it up and I’m happy to see Berry starting.1 -
Not when one of your 5 is TC and the other is Bree who has the ability to get forward (if fit)Callumcafc said:

Hernandez totally dropped, might that be the last we see of him!
Great to have Bree back, and Bell on the bench- hopefully a positive result and we get through december with players coming back
1-1 tonight please!2 -

No. It won’t be 4-4-2.golfaddick said:Has Nathan been on here & read my suggestion for a traditional 442 😀.2 -
Hate that kit though.2

Luke berry looked lively on Saturday when he came on, something I kept thinking to mention and didn’t.3

Yes, unless he has an injury, interesting that Apter makes the bench, but Hernandez doesn't.sammy391 said:Hernandez totally dropped, might that be the last we see of him!

He has great goalscoring instincts as well scored the late equaliser against hull, nearly scored a late equaliser against wrexham so I’m glad he’s getting a run out as a starter.Sword65pf said:Luke berry looked lively on Saturday when he came on, something I kept thinking to mention and didn’t.0 -
Hopefully that's Hernandez gone. In Jones we trust!2

Berry played extremely high when he came on against Southampton. The team was a mess by the end but Tanto, Knibbs and Berry were basically a front three. I don't know if that informs what the shape is but I imagine Berry will be pressing beyond Leaburn and might play as a second striker. Good to see Bell on the bench0

I really hope that Campbell and Leaburn can build on that colossal one League goal between them. Christ almighty.8

Stoke' s odds lengthening slightly with teams announced, moved out from 8/11 to 4/5 with William Hill (7% shift).
On sky bet, Stoke out from 4/6 to 3/4 (8% move).
Feeling 7.5% more confident of 0 here.2
