Don't know why, but I see a 0-1 smash and grab on the cards, the question is, do I have enough faith to get up at 3:45am to watch it.

Are there any spare adult tickets going for this?

We really need to do our best to stop the slide, as I can’t see us getting anything Saturday and 4 defeats in a row would be dangerous going into a busy festive period.

Id love us to nick a point, I just can’t see it happening, especially if we go behind.

    Kaminski

    Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey

    Bree, Coventry, Carey, Anderson, Campbell

    Apter , Tanto.

Doesn’t fill me full of optimism but TC is a better defender than Hernandez, albeit not much , and I don’t want to see him up front again.

If Jones is fit enough to play, I think it’s got to be something like:
    Kaminski
    Bree
    Ramsay
    Jones
    Gillesphey
    TC
    Coventry
    Docherty
    Carey
    Knibbs
    Tanto

This team you could either have as a 5-box-1 to try and stay compact and not so wide open in the middle like we were on Saturday. Or, you could play a variation of 4-2-3-1 with TC, Carey, Knibbs, and Tanto all swapping positions at times. TC can play either side, Carey can play in the 10 or left, Knibbs too and up top, Tanto can play as a 9 and out wide.

With this, it’s almost like this is the shape, this is making sure everyone is doing the basics, and here are the 4 players we are happy to say go and attack them when we have the chance.

When we are without Bell, Burke, Edwards, Kelman and Godden, it’s difficult to know what’s best as there is a whole lot of experience, and Championship experience too, in that list of injured players. You can’t say the same about the starting XI. So maybe someone like Berry starts? Lots of big calls in this. NJ has to get it right.
I get where you’re going with this and it makes a lot of sense but there is a factor that undoes it all. Man for man marking when dealing with rotations!!

@Braziliance Saints vlog has a long clip of the 4th goal from the build up and it lays it bare!
Said the exact same thing on Saturday and not only Jones, but the players on the pitch got it entirely wrong. Why wait until half time to change it and stop the whole man for man approach? They should have stopped at the very latest when it was 2-0 in the space of 2 minutes. It was poor leadership both from the sidelines and management on the pitch.

I just can’t see us having that same set up again today. Concede early and we are in trouble. Keep things structured and tight, build ourselves up in the game.

Interesting to see how Jones and the team react to last Saturday

Don’t want another heavy defeat as fear that would mushroom into one of those runs.

Like others have said I reckon the back 5 and box midfield is the way to go. Pack the midfield with numbers and just focus on stopping them. Could even have Cov, Doc, Karoy and Carey as your 4.

Thinking slightly longer term once we are out this tough run of games our squad does look like its fairly well set up for a 4231. We have so many players who can play in the 3 behind a striker. We have 4 number 10s (Carey, Knibbs, Berry, Fullah) plus wingers (Apter, TC, Hernandez). I really feel it would bring the best out of quite a few of them. Needs some defenders back but could use Ramsay at LB in the meantime. Would likely make some of our Jan recruitment easier too as rather than needing wing backs on both sides we would probably just need one full back and maybe a CB (plus strengthening in midfield the same as before.

Doubt Jones would ever do it tho.

Would like to see the 4231 at least tried , we've got the players to play it bar having to play one of Bree or Ramsay at LB for now. Might unlock TC a bit more and I think Tanto can do the lone striker role if he gets support.

Tanto has 63 career goals, TC has 15. Surely this should be a factor in who plays as a striker.

Nearly all of our defenders are much better in a back 3/5 though. That’s what we’ve recruited for

Wouldn't be against switching to a 4 in the short term as we’ve only got 4 available defenders. But longer term, once we have players back we of course should go back to the back 5 that was working so well for us until the injuries. When we have better availability we know that our back 5 system works brilliantly, why change that plan?

I agree. I think my wording was a little off.

I was meaning do whatever we can to get through these next 2 games, anything at all, 541 and just keep the oppo out. Then the 4231 system to get us through until reinforcements are back and we can strengthen in Jan and go back to the preferred system.

On your first point I agree we have recruited for a back 3 and Gilly in particular isn't great in a back 4. But it feels like a needs must situation when we only have 4 defenders available.

One win and 2 draws from our last 10 league visits to Stoke. Never been a happy hunting ground for us

A point would be a good one this evening

Last time I remember watching us vs Stoke was first game of the Bow championship season in 2019. At home. I think Nathan Jones was Stoke manager. We won, I forget the score.

Hernandez wasn't a summer signing, where we spent ages evaluating him and his role in the team, then gave him a 3 or 4 year contract. He was a free agent we picked up once the window closed, and gave a short term contract to.

Once we get to January, we can surely do better than him, as he's not a much needed wingback, but he's also shown little to suggest he can add much as an attacking player either.

Would love something from the game but I fear it's a night to hide behind the sofa... Just can't see what Nathan can do first with the defence and secondly he can't in all seriousness just keep Leaburn up front on his own.... We have to play Tanto with him.

If we don't push up and just defend it will be like siege at the Alomo and we will absolutely tonked.

We've been proven wrong many times so there's always hope but....

Half of TC's goals came in a 4 month purple patch last season.

This would be my team too. If NJ decides not to play Doc I would go for Anderson over Knibbs

                           Kaminski

               Ramsey    Jones     Gillesphey

         Bree    Coventry    Anderson    Fullah

                            Knibbs

                      Carey    Tanto

Thats what I would go for tonight. The definition of madness is to keep doing the same thing expecting a different outcome. Miles and TC just a waste of time upfront at the moment.

No Gough or Josh Laq playing for the U21's today so they must still be with the first team

Tomer Hemed had scored over 100-goals before joining us...?

Really don’t think Anderson next to Coventry is a good idea. We need to be better defensively and Anderson doesn’t have the discipline for that role at championship level in my opinion

I don’t mind Anderson starting but think it would be higher up the pitch in a game like this where we need 2 midfielders that can sit in front of the back 3 and be in the right position. Positional discipline is a weakness for Anderson

I think the box midfield is a good shout and Anderson was good in that role last season. Would probably go with Carey and Knibbs with Coventry and Docherty sitting as the box though with Anderson to come on from the bench

Does Charlton Live fall for the VPN if I want to watch this for £10 or shall I just do a 24 hour one with Now TV for £15 for the sake of a fiver?

Charlton TV is basically designed for you to buy a VPN and "go abroad", that's why it's sponsored by Nord
