With all our defensive injuries (possibly Lloyd too) will we be allowed to recall Mitchell, Mitchell & Asiimwe?

And would anyone be feeling good about any of them starting? Let’s be real as to why they are on loan.

Home form is always going to be vital this season. Fearing this week but who knows maybe we’ll 3 points v Stoke. Never been to Coventry, so glad that I’ll be going. COYR!

I just checked to see if NJ had signed Joel Ward, after reading that he had been training with us. If fit, he would have done a job for us.
Expect a defeat, but in games like this Charlton's battling spirit might surprise Stoke. We'll soon see.

If Bree is back then we have now at least got 4 defenders. I’d maybe switch to a back 4 but I think that’s unlikely to be what Jones does. Would like to see something like this

                         Kaminski
         Bree   Jones Gillesphey  Ramsay
                      Doc         Cov
           Apter        Carey       TC
                           Olaofe

This is the exact starting lineup I had in my head , just not convinced NJ is willing to ditch the wingbacks.
  • Looks like we'll be in our Black kit tomorrow night.

No i don’t think he will, but even so I’d like to see that eleven but with Apter RWB and Bree/Ramsay LWB if we keep the same system, as then in possession it will be similar to what we want to see

Turn the floodlights off, no-one will see us...we'll run riot, comfortable 0-4...🙌

They're only 4 points above us and have lost the same amount of games in 5...we'll be fine.

I’ve just been offered a theatre ticket for tomorrow night. Last time I went I came out to find that we’d beaten Ipswich 3-0. Here’s hoping.
(However, if you’re not convinced, we’re 16/1 to go down if you want to take out some insurance.)

0-0 - set up to frustrate over 90 mins and we deliver on that objective. Would take a point all day long.

Load the team with defensive players for the next 2 games, at least. Concentrate on keeping the goals out and aim for a point (or more relying on breakaways). Southampton showed us a masterclass on how to play this way last Saturday.

The strikers have had very poor service all season and its no surprise they have struggled to score. This problem is not going to magically disappear overnight unless we can get 2/3 new players in January to provide the skills we are missing.

I suggest we go "back to baics" for a while whilst we are forced to wait for more of our first choice players to return after injury and use any re-inforcements we can get from the January window.

    I agree...back to basics.

    442. No passing around the back. Just hoof it forward & let Leaburn, Carey, Berry et al fight it out with the Stoke defenders.

Go with a plan that keeps the ball away from our net & closer to theirs. Funny how ALL teams will lump it forward in added on time if a goal is really needed - sending the keeper up if really necessary. Now I'm not advocating that ploy for tomorrow but why is it ok to have everyone in their box on 90+4 mins but not on 60 ?

Desperate measures require a plan B.

Dont know what the illness was that Jones and Kayne picked up before Wrexham, but on Saturday they played like two people that had pretty much been in bed crook for the whole of the two week break. Listless and lethargic.
Would be amazed if at least one of them isn't missing tomorrow.

I’d love to predict a team but NJ won’t tell me who’s fit!! really don’t see how the secrecy helps, the amount of analysis clubs do they know us inside out anyway, like we do others, although maybe our analysts had a week off last week😂

For sure! Anything but another loss. Three on the trot would be tough to swallow.

Stoke are really adaptable, they’ve played 4 different shapes when in possession this season. 3 of those utilise a box midfield. They always play an overload behind so there is a fair chance they’ll roll one of the FB’s inside creating a 3v2 and send the other forward.
They’ve done that a couple of times already this season, Sorba Thomas tucked in from wide, creating a box with the 10 and 2 CM’s. 3-2-4-1. That was the exact shape Southampton employed going forward (with added rotations).
Another tough night ahead IMO. We’re in a really tough block of 6 fixtures, with only Pompey at home offering any respite. Anything out of this game will be brilliant.

I’m assuming LJ isn’t risked. Not ideal to throw in kids. I’d go as defensive as possible to eke out 0-0. Give Doc a rest. Coventry or Kaminski as captain. Don’t think JRC has the legs for another 60 minutes hence Apter back in. We really are very stretched.

    Kaminski
    Apter Bree Ramsay Gillesphey TC
    Anderson Coventry
    Carey Knibbs
    Leaburn or Tanto

I have no idea how Stoke line up though so may be way off.

6 attacking players is not defensive!! That lineup looks like a 0-6 defeat. Apter, and preferably TC, should never be wingbacks again. If Jones is fit he should play, with Costello and Bree as wingbacks, a box midfield and one up front. That will probably just be a 0-2 defeat. If Jones and Bree are out, God help us.

If Jones is fit enough to play, I think it’s got to be something like:
    Kaminski
    Bree
    Ramsay
    Jones
    Gillesphey
    TC
    Coventry
    Docherty
    Carey
    Knibbs
    Tanto

This team you could either have as a 5-box-1 to try and stay compact and not so wide open in the middle like we were on Saturday. Or, you could play a variation of 4-2-3-1 with TC, Carey, Knibbs, and Tanto all swapping positions at times. TC can play either side, Carey can play in the 10 or left, Knibbs too and up top, Tanto can play as a 9 and out wide.

With this, it’s almost like this is the shape, this is making sure everyone is doing the basics, and here are the 4 players we are happy to say go and attack them when we have the chance.

When we are without Bell, Burke, Edwards, Kelman and Godden, it’s difficult to know what’s best as there is a whole lot of experience, and Championship experience too, in that list of injured players. You can’t say the same about the starting XI. So maybe someone like Berry starts? Lots of big calls in this. NJ has to get it right.

Of course Jones plays if fit though doubt he is. In which case Bree at RWB and Apter dropped. JRC could barely walk after playing 60 mins he’s so unfit so I have him as a big doubt. In this formation both TC and Apter (Bree) would need to stay deep. TC was solid as LWB v Wrexham.

The aggression in your post is unnecessary when we’re all just speculating.

I'd be absolutely astounded if Docherty gets dropped as the OP predicts.
As long as we keep Apter and Hernandez out of our defense we can scramble 11 others together to make a fist of it.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Micah Richards, who was pretty tough always goes on about Tuesday evenings in Stoke. Are we tough enough?

  • What chance Apter instead of Campbell up front.

I think this will be what the team is, with the box midfield similar to how we set up at Wrexham. We haven’t got the defenders available to go more defensive there, so pack the midfield full of legs. Campbell did well at Wrexham at LWB so is probably our best option there, get runners around Olaofe in Carey and Knibbs, then have Leaburn and Fullah to impact from the bench

I get where you’re going with this and it makes a lot of sense but there is a factor that undoes it all. Man for man marking when dealing with rotations!!

@Braziliance Saints vlog has a long clip of the 4th goal from the build up and it lays it bare!

They have lost their last two, Saturday was a one off, I hope, I'm going for a draw to restore sensibility to views.

It's the sort of game where we go there and frustrate them and win 1-0, but no seriously 3-0 Stoke.
