There are probably several players that could be dropped but wholesale changes aren’t the answer even if we could. We can’t keep playing Campbell though as he’s not offering anything. Rather see Tanto start.
Given our current situation I’m not sure it matters greatly who plays. If we get anything from the next two games it’ll be a bonus.
Lloyd shouldn’t be risked as playing him risks longer term injury.

I do think NJ got caught up emotionally in two minds with trying to get one over Southampton and not paying them enough respect for the team they are.

We have to shut up shop Tuesday night and sit in deep even if it goes against all our principles!
I’d say shutting up shop are usually our principles!!
Not at home I wouldn’t say so. He went with Apter and Hernandez thinking we could out smart them!
Don’t even think he was trying to be smart, his choices were limited, we saw the alternative in JRC and wish I hadn’t.
Costello was not great, but he did a better job of man marking Scienza. He is a bit better defensive wingback than Apter or Hernandez, on that basis he should play. Beggars can't be choosers.

Yes you are right, they also took they’re getting off the gas which helped.

I thought that he was okay until he got tired, then he appeared to lose the use of his legs and couldn't kick the ball in a straight line.

    Tanto or Apter for Tc.

Given that is an away game and expectations are low, NJ may decide to put Laqeretabua or Gough in to test them out. Personally do not think either are ready but...

If Bree is back then we have now at least got 4 defenders. I’d maybe switch to a back 4 but I think that’s unlikely to be what Jones does. Would like to see something like this

                         Kaminski
         Bree   Jones Gillesphey  Ramsay
                      Doc         Cov
           Apter        Carey       TC
                           Olaofe

The way that Jones was limping at the end of the game on Saturday i would be very surprised if he plays tomorrow, really didnt look good. I think if he is out then NJs only option would be Ramsay at rcb🤷‍♂️ Theres no one else is there?

Would be Ramsay Gillesphey Gough or Ramsay Laqaretabau Gillesphey as a back 3. You can get away with fullbacks in a back 3 as wide centrebacks not a back 4. That being said Jones played for 2 months with a fractured femur last season so wouldn’t be shocked if we get him to power through until we can get cover back

Can’t help wondering about the connection between a resurgent, “born-again” Stoke City…and the retirement of our own @bobmunro  🤔😉

I did my best while I was there to keep them down! I'll have a word with my youngest who took over from me - he's let it slip.

If Jones is carrying an injury then he 100% should not be played tomorrow.
He's our best and most consistent player by a mile.
Risking him tomorrow could mean we lose him for weeks.
    Not worth the risk.

Would have thought Josh Laqeretabua must be in with a shout of starting given that he has played as a wing back/centre half in the past and has been a sub in the last two games.  Signed on a 3 year contract so must be rated by NJ. Cannot be worse than Hernandez or TC as a wing back, surely?

Worried this could be worse than Saturday. 5 nil defeat

I’m assuming LJ isn’t risked. Not ideal to throw in kids. I’d go as defensive as possible to eke out 0-0. Give Doc a rest. Coventry or Kaminski as captain. Don’t think JRC has the legs for another 60 minutes hence Apter back in. We really are very stretched.

    Kaminski
    Apter Bree Ramsay Gillesphey TC
    Anderson Coventry
    Carey Knibbs
    Leaburn or Tanto

I have no idea how Stoke line up though so may be way off.

Park the bus. Keep it tight and look to nick it on the counter.

Generally, almost invariably, they play a back four in a 4-2-3-1 formation.
  • Has Bree ever played in a back 3?

He's certainly tall enough to do it OK.

Mind you  that assumes he's fit to play.

He has and NJ has said he’s fit so I think it could be a decent option

What I would be doing is this, its very negative but i think we need to stop the rot and weather the storm with these defensive injury issues.

                                 Kaminski

                  Ramsay - Jones - Gillesphy

    Costello - Carey - Coventry - Docherty - Bree

                                    Knibbs

                                  Leaburn

Pack the midfield out go back to basics amd defend for our lives. Stop trying to shoehorn wingers into the wing back position and have costello and bree (two experienced heads in this division) sitting back with a but less freedom, costello may not be rated by nathan jones but surely he must be able to cope with these basic instructions even if not being fully up to speed. defend and try and knick a win with a bree set piece.

Best thing you can do after a 5-1 defeat is play again in a game with no expectation.

I would fear the worst though if Lloyd Jones isn't fit.

Don't disagree with the sentiment but surely if Campbell is fit, he plays. He's not only the 'out ball', he also stretches play and gets us up the pitch. We will not defend well for 90+ minutes without some hold up and forward thrusting play.

  • Load the team with defensive players for the next 2 games, at least. Concentrate on keeping the goals out and aim for a point (or more relying on breakaways). Southampton showed us a masterclass on how to play this way last Saturday.

The strikers have had very poor service all season and its no surprise they have struggled to score. This problem is not going to magically disappear overnight unless we can get 2/3 new players in January to provide the skills we are missing.

I suggest we go "back to baics" for a while whilst we are forced to wait for more of our first choice players to return after injury and use any re-inforcements we can get from the January window.

If our wing backs and midfield go missing again, you might as well put me in at centre half, they left our back three hopelessly exposed.

Please, not Campbell again. He's simply not strong enough often enough - he can be ask he showed a couple of times on Saturday, but too often he's running at three-quarter pace just shy of where he should be. He is capabale of flashes of brilliance but there are too many mislaid passes and mistimed runs. And don;t get me started about him in the air ...
  • I see us losing this , but charlton being charlton will inflict a first home defeat at coventry at the weekend

I dont see why a trio of Knibbs, Carey and Leaburn can't offer similar outballs and hold up play that Campbell gives us. I think Campbell is a great player but having him coming off the bench with Oloafe, Berry and potentially Godden if fit at say 70 minutes after defending valliantly away from home against a team chasing promotion is an asset that can't be overlooked. Just because Campbell isnt in the starting eleven doesnt mean he wont have an important part to play at some point of the game.

Hernandez is not worth a starting role, I mentioned before the Saints game, I'd put Anderson on the left and retain everybody's new scapegoat, Docherty in midfield
Campbell always has a go, but so far he has got nowhere, we need more 'muscle' up front to try and shake up the Stoke defence, good that Bree is available, but I fear Saturday's loss might have derailed any potential New Year signing
Stoke so far have risen from a few seasons of mediocrity to a position of some strength
Be nice to bring them down a peg or two
We need to get back on track. For me even a defeat would be 'acceptable' if the players show good heart, organisation and attitude. Any of the three possible outcomes would not surprise me

Come on you Addicks, we need you back in the groove and tout de suite
