Well we are playing the top teams, so might not be so bad! 😂bolloxbolder said:If you know your history, over the years we traditionally do bad in November.
4 defeats in a row incoming.
id defo give costello and anderson a run out1 -
Another good preview and feel sympathy for anyone trying to work out who will be available for selection on Tuesday. NJ is keen to bemoan the current injuries but not willing to provide any updates on the extent or length of any absences. Don’t think that will bother Stoke and will be another tough test.1

If Lloyd cant play 4-1 Stoke….1

I'm already fearing what could come around tbh, and this isn't solely reacting to yesterday's trouncing, we've been largely poor for a couple of months barring the smash and grab 10 minute counter assault on Ipswich, the late goals at Hull and V Baggies have helped mask that a bit but with the next 3 aways we have, and some high pressure home games ahead, I must say I'm concerned, with Blades winning today that 10 point comfort zone we have could easily be eroded rapidly
I'm very much scarred by 19/20 and the parallels with that season to date are uncanny, encouraging start, injury crisis and downturn hitting November and pretty much point for point with where we were then
The biggest difference is we hopefully won't have our hands tied by a transfer embargo in Jan!
I hold no hope for Cov away and am concerned as to what our backline is going to look like this week with possibly no L Jones.
Can't see past a defeat here too as it stands but I'm hoping and pray N. Jones proves me wrong (AGAIN!) and does a better job of proving at point on Tuesday than he did yesterday!5 -
Freezing windy rainy tuesday stoke away is probably the ultimate test of whether a player wants it enough for the club - so chuck in those with question marks 🙃0

We are luckily not playing the top three teams back to back as we are at home to Pompey before we play Boro.aso914 said:Think this will be a defeat as will coventry and I hope the fans can stick with the boys through this rough patch. Playing the top 3 teams back to back after a massive defeat is very unlucky.1 -
This. Defenders in defence, not wingers, pack the midfield and have one striker, and hope for a clean sheet. Any attempt to play a pressing game with our available defenders will be as disastrous as Saturday.cabbles said:Jones’ availability is key. If he can play, play a back 4 of Bree, Jones, Gillesphey and Ramsay. I know he’s right footed, but I feel he’ll offer a better option that trying to shoe horn one of TC or Hernandez in at LWB
holding midfield two of Coventry and Anderson, then 3 in behind either Leaburn or Tanto. Carey, Docherty and Campbell
If we can nick a point I’ll be ecstatic - hope and expect a bit of a response, but appreciate options are limited5 -
Would gladly take a 4-0 now if they promise to space the goals out. Betting wise, Stoke to win -1 goals will probably get a decent price.0

Undefeated run under the lights in the league to continue. 1-2 to the travelling Addicks0

Knibbs in for Doc, it's time to give him some games for me.4

Lloyd Jones has to be rested. It's no point in risking him in a game that we are unlikely to get any points. That then is a massive issue, because we don't have any other fit defenders. Play Tyreece as a wing back, Leeburn and Tanto up front. Cary deeper, alongside Docherty and Coventry, try to play on the break.
I still don't have a solution to resting Lloyd, but it must be done, we must not let him break down completly.
Onel has got quite a bit of stick for his performance, but he did look a lot better on the right, and I would continue with him.
We will lose this game, but it's about managing the squad through a long season, so Nathan should look at limiting the size of the defeat, rather than thinking he can win every game.3 -
My expectations are low for this one.1

Was we likely to get points before Saturday then?, you can’t pick and choose games you think you might get points in, it will always bite us on the arse, The best possible line up should be on the pitch for every game.altrinchamaddick said:Lloyd Jones has to be rested. TC isn’t doing well enough in the position he’s supposed to be good at, so why expect him to be good enough in a position we all know doesn’t suit him? And when he doesn’t do well everyone slags him off, lose lose I’m afraid. Either pick him as a winger in a formation that suits or put him on the bench.Talal said:
The last game Campbell was at wing back he did well enough actually. Not saying I want him there but I'd have more confidence than with Hernandez.Sword65pf said:
Campbell would be no different in the same role as Hernandez, both are nothing other than wingers.Talal said:Hernandez can't start at wing back again surely. Rather see Campbell there and Fullah further forward. To be honest rather see anything else happen than that.3 -
I do think NJ got caught up emotionally in two minds with trying to get one over Southampton and not paying them enough respect for the team they are.We have to shut up shop Tuesday night and sit in deep even if it goes against all our principles!5

I’d say shutting up shop are usually our principles!!cafc_se7 said:I do think NJ got caught up emotionally in two minds with trying to get one over Southampton and not paying them enough respect for the team they are.We have to shut up shop Tuesday night and sit in deep even if it goes against all our principles!6 -
back to basics, and stopping whatever 'rot' has kicked in.
Positive outcome breeds positive fans, and that has been key to our success so far last season and this!
Get through to January, picking up solid points whilst limiting any injury crisis is paramount - hopefully Phil Chapple has got a tasty list put together, whilst Adam Coe & team are reducing their list in the medical rooms3 -
I'm going to overrule my head (2 goal loss) with my heart and say we battle out a 0-0 draw, basically parking the bus from the start.1
-
If we can keep it to 2-0 I'd be happy.0

Jeez my post was about how I don't want to see Hernandez at wing back again and anything, including Campbell there, would be preferable.Sword65pf said:

A performance is what is required, great to get a result but restoring pride firstly is important. If Bree and Jones are available, then the right side and back three are back to normal, it's the left wing back that is the problem position. I think Campbell with Fullah in front would be the best option but that would leave a problem up front. Miles run himself into the ground on Saturday, with little reward, shame on those who didn't join him, for that reason, I think Olaofe will start, none of which is ideal but it's where we are. I can't see us getting a result but who knows, we surely can't be as bad as Saturday but if we are Nathan Jones will be pretty unforgiving.2

We don’t stand a chance ! They are a top side ! We are struggling ! Our best players are injured! Definitely losing this !
oh wait it’s Charlton we always do what we least expect2 -
Not at home I wouldn’t say so. He went with Apter and Hernandez thinking we could out smart them!Sword65pf said:

Exactly - we may have got battered by Southampton but they’ve lost their last 2 games as well as we have, yes they’ll be odds on favourites but it’s a league match and we need to go there and try to get at least a point with our strongest team even if we do end up losingSword65pf said:

Don’t even think he was trying to be smart, his choices were limited, we saw the alternative in JRC and wish I hadn’t.cafc_se7 said:

Costello was not great, but he did a better job of man marking Scienza. He is a bit better defensive wingback than Apter or Hernandez, on that basis he should play. Beggars can't be choosers.Sword65pf said:

When JRC came on for Apter we definitely improved a bit and he made a difference but second half he was poor - looked unfit and ran out of steam. Not playing for some time probably didn’t help.Southbank said:

The ‘rot’ is something otherwise known to fans as the ‘international break’. Normal service should be resumed tomorrow night.sammy391 said:back to basics, and stopping whatever 'rot' has kicked in.
