Yes you did and we did some down near Cannon Street i think?  They were quite regular in the end.
They were good fun.  Met a lot of addicks through those drink ups.  Wonder what happened to Stone and Steve Dowman :-)
What was the name of that pub?
was it the Cannick Taps? sure it was in a basement

I go to many matches on my own, it was only on Saturday that I made the eight and half hour round trip to Wrexham on my own to watch us. Yes, I may travel there and back alone, but once I'm in the ground, you can't deny that you feel at one with the club.
  • Spent 20-years going to Football on my own pretty much every week, had the occasional game where I went with a friend or went with my missus... But preferred it on my own, even when I used to travel, as could focus on enjoying myself, and not worry about others.

Made friends with those around me at the Valley, and could just concentrate on watching the game by myself.

Although I use Valley Express I'm basically on my own. I've never drank before, during or after a game and spend the time on the coach listening to music and catching up on whatsapping some people. Once in the ground I invariably bump into loads of people I know and enjoy a good catch up.

Used to go with my wife for years but now she stays at home to babysit the dogs and does her crafting.

Quiet like going on my own and having a bit of me time.

I grew up in the Midlands and resultantly, grew up as the only Charlton fan in the area. I moved down to London for university and have had a season ticket since. I can sometimes drag non Charlton supporting friends to games but would say 75% of games I go to on my own. I don’t really mind going to games alone but I wouldn’t mind going to the pub pre and post games and having people to talk Charlton with in general.

Is anyone else in a similar position and looking to make Charlton supporting friends? I’d be happy to try and set up some kind of WhatsApp group and ultimately a meet up at games if there’s interest.

Someone reaches out to attend a game or 2 together, with the hope of ongoing friendship and the common consensus is you're better off going on your own! Classic Charlton life! 😂

I hope you find what you're looking for mate.

Used to go to games with my cousin until he moved for uni in 08. Moved from east stand to upper covered end for the 08/09 season, got talking to others prett quickly even though I'm sure they think I was a bad luck charm that season. Now when I do go I go with my son but still go alone of he cant come, doing cov on my own and really looking forward to the whole day

Coventry is next to where I grew up, you’re one of very few people to look forward to a day in Coventry ;)

As I live the other side of Basingstoke I travel to home games on my own till I meet up with mates for breakfast occasionally and in the pub before the game.

There are several supporters from Basingstoke whom I know but they travel later than me.

All those mates I meet are people I have met since going to Charlton, as others have said find a pub nr Charlton and you will soon pick up drinking and possibly travel buddies.

I have been to a few away games this year on my own but always bump into someone I know when having a beer. I like to be a bit  independant as I try to find real ale houses that are in between the station and the ground rather than use spoons etc, but sometimes there's little choice.

Cheers, it’s alright I get people’s points. I don’t mind going to games alone, get on well with the people I sit near and just had a great day in Wales. I have a 4 hour round trip to the Valley so sometimes I wouldn’t mind making more of a day out of it rather than going straight to the game, see a demoralising loss and going straight home (although thanks to NJ this happens less).

My comment wasn't saying go on your own, I actually have a spare ticket for every match, as I'm classed as (ambulant) disabled, but do not always have a 2nd person to go with (free ticket). I sit in  the Upper North, Block L, QQ. If you're interested in meeting before the match against Southampton, DM me and we'll arrange something.

I remember when you attended the Maple Leaf one.
Was that when he bought a round?

I normally go to matches with friends/family, but last year I went up to Port Vale away on my own and really enjoyed my day (despite us conceding a last minute equaliser!).
  • I go by myself, feel a bit awkward going to the pub just to “meet people” and strike up a conversation, at 34 feel simultaneously too young and too old to do that!

Just started going regularly (first time being a season ticket holder) First game against Watford started chatting to the bloke next to me called Joeseph and had a great time chatting about the game… turns out I got my seat wrong and my actual seat was a couple of rows and further across where I’ve been since and nobody’s particularly chatty.

So sorry joeseph, it was me, not you!

I hear the ticking of the clock
I'm lying here, the room's pitch dark
I wonder where you are tonight
    No answer on the telephone

And the night goes by so very slow
Oh, I hope that it won't end though
    Alone

'Til now, I always got by on my own
I never really cared until I met you
And now it chills me to the bone
How do I get you alone
How do I get you alone
  • Friend I travel with from the Midlands thinks this maybe his last season and will just pick the occasional fixture to go to (age the reason) , I'll keep going but travel on my own,  meeting fellow Addicks on route.

If that seat is not held by a season ticket holder you could probably get it moved?

I’m from Rugby. A strangely convenient place to get almost anywhere in the country on the train. Perfect for away days, although I’ve since moved away

Until just before this forum started I went to most games on my todd, with plastic generational Charlton fan mates, mates who were fans of the opposition or most often mates who were not Charlton fans but liked drinking and football

Its because of the fulcrum of this site @AFKABartram that I have met and subsequently have a lot of associations that are Charlton-related than anything or anyone else. Me and my old pal @carlsberg and @Ketman were going to games together a few years before CL but those two have known one another since @carlsberg was a tickle in his daddy's nutbag. Then a good decade of season tickets with a handful of others who are all not only good pals but brothers for life and sisters in a few cases

That said, if any of you have been around @WSS after a bottle of spiced rum you would consider going to games on your own!

I'm not sure the internet is as wholesome now to be doing things like what used to happen, its just too big and fast moving.

Just looked at some images…….it definitely wasn’t The Cannick Taps…..anyone else got the answer?
  • I went to the Stevenage game last season by myself for the first time. Originally from Welling, but have now lived in Liverpool for the past 8 years. It was strange at first, but in the end, I actually really enjoyed myself.

    Was it Deacons??

And what was the name of the pub we did the City Addicks in which me and Razil restarted? Upstairs?  City Tavern?  Cant remember.

We did do one in the London Stone opposite Cannon Street also which is downstairs but i do also remember another time with you @Greenithe and that was directly opposite Cannon St i'm sure but on ground level?  Or was that Deacons?

One of the best away trips this year was going to Bristol City away alone.

Reconnected with a few familiar faces and had fub getting drunk.

So in a way (especially with a club like Charlton) your not truely alone!

Can I recommend attending the Bromley Addicks on the 20th, Len Glover will be in attendance. If you want to strike up friendships with people, these supporters events are probably a good way to take that forward, there is a separate thread on location and times on this site.

Don’t doubt it but unfortunately it’s a long way to Bromley for me

It was called The Cannon. No longer there as building demolished and rebuilt, but roughly where The Candlemaker is now

I’ve been to lots of baseball and football games by myself here in the states, and everyone always is puzzled as to why I’d go alone

For me, I get so invested as to what’s going on in the game, that I don’t really speak to anyone around me. It’s why me wife hates going with me because I never talk to her😬

As others have said, sports are such a relaxing way to release all the stresses of life, and sometimes it’s ok for that to just be something you do for yourself

With that said, I love going to matches with my friends when we can all make it work

Time and a place for both
