Great video. His videos (and I think he's got a podcast) are a really good watch/listen if you've got a spare half hour. Has been very complimentary of us whenever we're brought up as well

I think we will go for an inverted goal keeper playing it up into the hole to a false number six.
In possession we will incorporate the offensive players into midfield in a hexagon shape, and out of possession we will go to the rectangle five five.

Under pressure we will just hit it as far as we can and hope someone gets on the end of it.

    Do I get the job?
    Are you Ange Postecoglou?
It’s just who we are mate

Some very good stats in there too- highest in the league currently, i think he said, for set piece effectiveness (i.e. goals). Also a very good account of our whole 'team game' and use of space, (which could makes it especially useful viewing for those who prefer to highlight single player deficits and pattern of play when we are 'on the ball').

Feels like an apt time to bring this thread back as just last night we played

    5-box-1
    4-4-1-1
    4-diamond-2

Obviously before we've played a couple of variants on 3-5-2

Given the personnel available, I can't work out what the best option is. The 5-box-1 bails out Gillesphey's lack of pace a bit we lose TC as an out ball. Would 4-4-1-1 work better with TC and Apter on the wings and Carey in the 10? The centre of defence is then very slow. It's a bit of a headache

We only have two centre backs who are equipped to play in a 4, and that's Jones and Burke. Ramsay, Gillesphey and Bell are good options in a 3 but I wouldn't want either of them playing in a 4 for an extended period. Burke isn't fit enough to play there regularly so at the moment a 3 is the only way to go. Jones seems to always have the diamond in the back of his mind but it totally failed when he tried it at Stoke and the few times he's tried it with us it's been a disaster, it has to be binned. Against Coventry I'm fine with TC playing at LWB with Tanto in front of him, then Bell can come on later to get some minutes and hopefully start against Pompey, after which hopefully we'll be ok

Now that Bell is back we should be able to revert to our usual way of playing. I’m honestly not sure there was a way we could have set up these last 2 games that resulted in more than 0 points, we definitely got things wrong that meant we were hammered but I think without a left back we were never going to get a result in either game

Maybe Costello gets a go in midfield for Docherty to switch up personnel, but I think we should just try and forget these last 2 games, revert to how we were setting up before and hopefully performances and results pick up

I still maintain when everyone is fit the best 2 formations for us are 352 or 4231

Right now with the injuries we should probably play a diamond midfield and a back 5 to make use of who is fit and what should stop us shipping so many goals

Saturday, let's be honest, is a complete free hit in terms of tactics and lineup

Doesn’t matter what formation we play at present, want to play a back 4 can’t do that don’t have 2 Cb’s who can play in a 4, want to play a back 3 can’t do that don’t have a player who can play LWB.
know Bell is back but after being out for a while and the fact it’s clear his body couldn’t handle the intensity/load of playing as a wingback would we risk him there when he’s the only option for that position or we can play him LB he’s likely to stay fit but again we don’t have 2 natural CB’s who can play in a 4. Just seems like we’re screwed either way till January

I’m confused at why we haven’t tried Bree at LWB yet. We need a defensive LWB to protect Gillesphey, so put Bree there and then we can go back to our balance of attacking RWB with Ramsay able to shift to RB to cover
