70 Years an Addick!!
Countdown to Saturday November 1- Charlton Athletic v Swansea City, and 70 (seventy!) years to the day from my first Charlton game, v Manchester City- CAFC won 5-2 on Saturday November 5 1955. 'Many miles have I travelled, many games have I seen, following Charlton, my favourite team'- including trips to most major stadia in England plus lots of smaller grounds during the 3rd Division years, Also four winning play-off finals- v Leeds at Birmingham in 1987, plus three at Wembley (Sunderland twice and Leyton Orient last May). Another landmark with CAFC connection was the first radio chat show for one club, when Charlton Chat launched on RTM Radio (Thamesmead) in 1990, hosted by Steve Sutherland and driven by me for some two years every Sunday night. Why Charlton? My late father, Bob, was a Durham lad, invalided out of armed service in WW2 and in London (Mottingham) as a building repair worker. He met and married our mum, Gwen, me and brother Andrew came along, and dad found a football team to follow with Durham connections- Jimmy Seed and Sam Bartram. So it was off to The Valley that Saturday in 1955, which has been my 'second home' these past 70 years! COYR!

Congratulations @chilham never realised that was you. Many happy memories as a teenager listening to your dulcet tones on a Sunday night.chilham said:You may have sussed from the Charlton Chat comment that my real identity is actually Clive R from Maritime Radio :-)
Glad you are well and still an active Addick 👍2 -
Massive congrats @Chilham on 70yrs an ADDICK ! hope you have let Charlton know so they can announce this at Swansea game
my dad had 80yrs as an Addick, his first game in 1945 sadly he passed away this year and his last game he came to was 2019 play-off final, disabled in a wheelchair but he loved the whole day and it was a good way to say goodbye to seeing Charlton in person. We texted or spoke daily about Charlton, and he left us 3 weeks before 2025 play off finals. We carried his coffin into church a few days after we got promoted, to the "Red Red Robin" with red and white roses at the alter.

Brilliant - congrats! Loved Charlton Live on RTM.1

I was born in Floyd Road in 1945, (80 years ago) to parents who went to Wembley for both FA Cup finals.
My father took me to my first game when I was young, (sorry cannot remember game or year).
We used to stand behind the open goal and that is where I took my sons later when they were young teenagers.7 -

60 years for me. First taken to the Valley in 1965. Can’t remember the match but didn’t really start taking an interest until the 1968/69 season .. ‘You’re in my heart, you’re in my soul. You’ll be my friend when I get old’
Edit: 4 November 1965 Charlton 2-2 Rotherham3 -
Completed my 70 years,1st game Preston september 1955.What a roller coaster it has been,so many ups but probably a lot more downs, dont know any supporters of other clubs who have been through the mill like us,but we stick with it,long may it continue.8

not trying to make this a contest but my father took me in 1953 I think it was Sam Batram' s500th game , it was against Portsmouth with whom we have always havea friendly relationship ( remember the sailor walking round the touch line ringinga bell , Pompey Chimes ) and there was a cake in the middle of the pitch before kick off in the shape ofa football pitch . Sam and pompey legend Jimmy Dickinson cut the cake . Since then i have supported the addicks through many ups and downs , funny the name the valiants never caught on . Highlights apart from the obvious play offs 7-6 against Huddersfield , 6 all draw against i cant remember who now and as a schoolboy seeing us beat luton away 6-1, Finally there was a book in the Guildhall library in London "the history of woolwich 1903 " In it I read that before Charlton attained league status they were playing local football and got through to a cup final, A local restauranteur promied the players a slap up meal if they won , they did but he reneged on the deal whereupon a local fish and chip shop stepped in . the following year Charlton god through to the final again and won and it was the headline in the local press "the Haddock boys do it again !" Greetings to all Charlton followers especially the older generation.11

great posts guys, now go and have a lie down :-)4 -
First League game February 1950 which we lost 2-1 to Man Utd. Attended lots of reserve games in 1949 which were on Saturday afternoons in those days.
Unfortunately not been able to attend since Covid due to lack of mobility but watch all our games on different sites.0
