He may well end up being one of the leagues most prolific strikers who never played in the Championship or above. I dont think for one minute 12 months ago he thought this is where he would be now.
A 28 goal season will put him second on the all-time league one top scorers list.

Having watched Huddersfield's performance at the Valley, I would suggest they spend a lot more than one point five million on their defence, only their goalkeeper kept the score down. As for Alfie good luck to him, it's a short career so maximise every opportunity you get, ironic that he didn't get to play Championship football with Charlton or Birmingham though.

Pity Cheltenham Town, who sold him for £250k, as they thought it would be his last move and a chance for him to get some decent money when he came to us. Since then he moved twice, both with profit on his transfer fee.
Crazy we got him so cheap really, what a buy he was

What in actually fudge is this!
  • I've not been keeping much of an eye on L1 (thank goodness after the last few years!) beyond the league table, didn't realise May has only got 2 in 16 this season, Huddersfield might be kicking themselves they went back in for him.

Got a red card in the first half on Saturday.  3 game ban as an horrendous tackle.

Alfie May has scored 2 in 878 league minutes. Tanto has scored 1 in 186. Tanto is on track to have scored 5 goals in the minutes May has played

Just watched the tackle on YouTube, and it did look like the guy made the most of if, May didn't look like he connected with the guy, rather the guy tripped over May's legs, clumsy rather than malicious....just saying.

He’ll go and score 12 in 10 between now and Christmas. He’s that kind of striker.

You might want to check how many games he's allowed to play between now and Christmas...

Grant will get sacked, they will get a 3-5-2 manager in and then May will score loads. He’s the best striker in that league if used properly

Might not be this year as Grant keeps playing him in midfield

Shame its not really working out for him there but on the plus side im sure his salary is still being paid/part paid by Birmingham or he receoved a payout to leave. At the end of the Alfie wanted to leave and he got his wish, there is always a risk with that but im sure its been great for him on the financial side.

Hopefully it works out for him on the football side too.

Don’t think the tackle was that bad.

Didn't think it merited a red either.
Player rolling around probably didn't help.

Maybe a red, but not as atrocious as was claimed earlier in this thread.  He should not have dived in two footed and to do so early in the game is naive.  Does not seem to be himself from the highlights and games I have seen recently.  Still got time for him and saving us from League 2.

Should not have been allowed to leave in the first place.

I know the vast majority would've wanted him to stay, including me.
But Godden turned out to be a decent replacement and generally more of a team player.

We got absolutely miles better without him? Surely that debate is done now?

Jones didn’t want May, that was obvious and that decision has proved to absolutely be the correct one for the team

I know, we might have been promoted and then get into a Championship play-offs position by now if he'd have stayed.

I still think we flogged him to bring in more players, who is to say if he stayed it could have worked out.  Plus save 3 million? quid on bringing in Kelman.

Also it was pretty clear that May wanted to leave for Birmingham/Huddersfield at the time, otherwise he would have stayed and fought for a place under Jones if possible
