Home ends you have been in watching Charlton
Charlton away games only, i have done quite a few home ends for one reason or another. Mostly I think because in the 70s and 80s things were more relaxed in terms of crowd control and security and my Dad would turn up with us at local grounds and it was natural (and probably safer sometimes) to drop in the home end. Later on in life, late 80s and so on, things changed somewhat and home fans can get quite aerated for no reason other than your being there.
1970s-
Oxford, Manor ground
Luton (a never ending fight on the adjacent terrace the whole game)
Reading (Elm Park)
Later 80s/90s -

Spurs (they scored 5 that day)
Southampton -the Dell, and st Marys
Sheffield Wednesday (0-0 I think)

Watford (when I found an access all areas match day pass)

Tense situations-
Luton during the ban, x2
Bristol city, (Robert Lee goal in 1-0 win had to say I had a bet on the away win when I drew attention celebrating the goal)
Plymouth in a friendly (6-0 win. Though no away end as such. This got scary as the game went on)
Bristol Rovers, at bath (the infamous game)
Silliest one-
Cambridge, 1989? (drinking all evening then popped in home end for last 15 to see a last minute winner)

Millwall once. The 4-0 thrashing. Was about 14 and went with some school friends. Was a mistake.
QPR in 2019 when Naby Sarr scored the late equaliser! Was so hard not to explode! Edit: sat in the home end because my father in law is a QPR fan0 -

Just once. 2005-2006 season, last game of the season at Man Utd. Curbs' last game in charge. I had been to all the northern games, everything north of Birmingham, but couldn't get a ticket. A work friend got me a couple of tickets in the posh bit, entrance through a glass door with a bouncer into rooms full of food and wine. I went with an old school friend (Man Utd fan). The old woman sat next to me was quite chatty before the game, but realised I wasn't a home fan when they started scoring and I wasn't celebrating. She swapped seats with her son at half time. We lost 4-0. I was really jealous of all the fans in the away end.0

Bristol Rovers at bath springs to mind got very tasty during and after the game was a good number of Charlton in the home end that day2

Nearly got lynched at White hart Lane when we went 3-0 up (Shaun Bartlett era). Free ticket from a work colleague. SIT DOWN YOU CNUT was thrown at me for various quarters!
Spent 2nd half of the Battle of Stamford Bridge in the Shed after being ejected from the ground. An absolute giant grabbed me outside thinking I was Chelsea and said come on I’ll get us back in. And he did!
watford in the executive box with clients of my mates firm. Remember a Watford Directors wife commented that the reason we were losing was because have too many black players 😳

Millwall away when I was a kid.
Dad always used to get seats in the home end at the old Den whenever we played them. (including 78 when we won)
He didn't give a shit and, besides, he could have talked his way out of anything.
Also Chelsea, in the battle of the bridge game.
We were in the big stand (the one that nearly skinted them) and the atmosphere in there was so hateful, I simply walked down and along in to The Shed. Watched most of the game from there and it was fine, although the match itself was terrifying.1 -
Brighton at the Withdean because sod going in that away end that was basically in Hove. Was so many empty seats it was never a problem. Remember a fairly comfortable 2-0? win there with a Waggy goal and I think the other one was a draw, Jacko scored really early if I remember rightly.

Selhurst in '96 for 2nd leg of playoff semi. A horrible night.
Liverpool in '98. Assumed we'd lose without scoring then an epic 3 3 unfolded.
West Ham in '99. Won 1 0, Graham Stuart.
Southampton 2001. Lost 1 0 and I think it was their first win at St Mary's.
Tottenham, Boxing Day 2002. We were 2 0 up with a Euell brace then nearly lost it at the death. Finished 2 2.
Reading 2014. Igor scored. Think we won it 1 0. I was in a corporate bit so hazy memory of the day.
It's always an endurance test being in the home end and I am not sure I'd bother in future. If you can't celebrate what's the point ?
Strangest one for me is being in the away end at the Valley. I'd gone to a League Cup game against Ipswich in '97 with a Tractor Boy mate. I said he may we may as well sit together so we were in our end. He had an Ipswich shirt on but didn't celebrate when they scored. At half time having a beer out the back someone objected to my mate's presence and the stewards said he'd have go go in their end. I went with him out of solidarity and ended up getting strange looks off their fans in the Seed.

Millwall at the Old Den late 80s 1st Division - stood down side for a better view - lost 1-0 to a late David Thompson? goal.
Huddersfield in 1985 - stood on their big covered side terrace for a better view - won 2-0 Flanagan and Curbishley.
West Ham - sat in the Chicken Run seats for the 3-1 Jim Melrose 9 second goal game.
Millwall at the New Den - stood behind the goal because I was late and just went in the first turnstile I could see. Won 2-0 Kim Grant.
Brentford in 1983 - stood down the side as we got battered 3-0 in the Milk Cup.
Manchester Utd - sat in seats behind the goal for a better view. Won 1-0 Mark Stuart. Had to climb down into the away end at final whistle to avoid a kicking.
Swindon - several times sat in the big stand to left of away end. Great view and most times had a whole row to myself.
Barnsley - same as Swindon.
Norwich - did seats at side for the infamous David Axcell (ref) Mark Reid pushing game.
Norwich - seats behind goal for four wins....Bradley Allen 1-0; a 2-1 with a Mark Kinsella pile driver; 3-0 Clive Mendonca hat-trick; 4-0 Andy Hunt hat-trick.
Crystal Palace - in my usual Holmesdale spot for a Sunday 2-0 defeat. Think Paul Stewart may have scored.
Bristol Rovers at Twerton for the 2-1 defeat Robert Lee and miidweek 2-0 win Alan Pardew headers. Sat in same row as Malcolm Allison.
Southampton at the new ground. Sat down side for the last minute Chris Iwelumo win.
Birmingham for a late season 0-0. Can remember it being hot but barely anything happened in the game.
QPR stood by the dugouts for 2-1 League Cup defeat - Paul Williams for us and Trevor Francis two, including an overhead for them. Plus 0-0 1st Division game. In The Loft for a 2-0 1st Division loss - think Nicky Johns played for them. Plus quite a few wins in the Ellerslie Rd seats; 2-1 Gary Poole and Bradley Allen; 4-1 Steve Jones, John Robinson, Phil Chapple etc; 2-0? League Cup Neil Redfearn.1 -

Variation on a theme, sat in the away "end" at The Valley.
Just after the return, home to Notts County. Home ends full (Jimmy Seed was home fans at this time), and Notts County had not taken up the offer of guaranteed space in their section of the temporary stand.
I jumped and and cheered when we scored (twice), Notts County fans gave me dog's abuse, but that was it.

My first game my Dad took me to was at the Old Den where I stood with his Millwall mate. Also had to buty a ticket for the Holmesdale end after not getting let into the away end.

December ‘95 at the Den.When 2nd goal went in I stood up, got my knob out and did ‘the helicopter’ to everyone around me.Lucky for me, nobody noticed. Probably because it was so cold.1

I used to drive the late great Kevin Nolan to away games, between him and Scoop I often got in on a press ticket, which mostly meant sitting with the home fans, but in the stand, rather than in their "end". Though sometimes we could sneak into sit with our fans, which we tried to do if possible.

Sat with City mates in the main stand at Maine Road (2-1 win!) and seen us lose at the Old Den from every terrace or stand.
The most curious one; one day, back when I was a 13 year old Luton fan, I decided to stand with the away fans for a change. Only did it once, and it was the Luton 7 Charlton 1 game. The Addicks fans were brilliant. Little did I know what was to happen just over a decade later...

Upton Park with a West Ham mate when Dailly (playing for them) scored an own goal and we won I believe.
On my way in to the ground just at the turnstiles saw another mate’s older brother who was selling West Ham programmes and said loudly “What you doing round this side Rodney, you’re Charlton” before walking off chuckling to himself.
Goodison, with an Everton mate, 2 west ham mates and a spurs mate. Remember Rooney two footing Chris Powell that game and winning the ball. Was a point when the home fans all started getting a bit grumpy so I turned to my scouse mate and did the Harry Enfield ‘Calm down, calm down’ in mock Liverpool accent replete with arm rocking and head bobbing. My scouse pal took umbrage and proceeded to stand up and point at the other 4 of our quintet and loudly point and shout “These four are cockneys, these four and cockneys” whilst pissing himself as those round us started doing their own Harry Enfield-esque impressions - life imitating art.
Other memorable one was in 1992 in the King Fahd cup, Riyadh in the stadium of the same name (beautiful stadium inspired by Bedouin tents).
Watching Saudi v Argentina (Caniggia et al playing for the latter) and some Dutch blokes sat behind us started cheering for the Argentinians resulting in a barrage of coins being launched by angry locals and having to protect my 6 year old and 9 year old brothers from the hail of halalas. (Remember being there on my own with my young brothers which is weird looking back on it now especially as it was a night game ha ha!) Think we collected about 10 Riyals in coinage that night so it was a result.

Palace 95 was 16 at the time went with my Palace supporting mate got robbed at knifepoint at tulse hill on the way took my wallet containing match ticket. Found his Grandad at the ground and he bought 2 in the main stand. They had a whip round and gave us our money back (Police weren't interested) Celebrated Bowyers opener and got some choice comments thrown my way.

Quite a few, mostly during the 80's and nearly all in the north due to going with mates who supported the oppo.
Old Trafford for the 1-0 win in 86 was the best, completely forgot where I was when we scored and fully celebrated. Thought I was going to die until a copper saved my life and dragged me out, he did take me round to the section where Charlton fans were and got me let back in!
Burnden Park, very scary in with their lot but managed to keep my mouth shut.
Boundary Park, the game after our move to Selhurst was announced, our lot sang we won't go to Sainsburys all night.
Hillsborough, more than one dodgy visit there!
Maine Road plenty of times over the years but remember the 5-0 drubbing we took to hand them promotion on the last day of the season. During the game, I got sussed but thankfully the fans in the Kippax treated me like a long lost brother, would have been different if we had spoilt their big day! One other thing from this game, I have no memory of seeing any other Charlton fans anywhere else in the ground.
