Looks like he’s gone in as the club’s appointee amongst the manager’s picks on the staff (think of JJ under Robinson / Adkins) - so he’s probably hoping for an interim gig if the manager gets the bullet and the rest of the staff leave with him.
One of our more likeable ex managers, but ultimately very out of his depth as a manager

Nice bloke. Leading us out at Old Trafford must have been a dream come true
I hope he gets a good round of applause when he comes to the Valley later in the season.8 -
It feels like every manager we had during our "banter era" has completely fallen off the radar since leaving. Has any of them gone on to achieve even a shred of success? Chris Powell made it into the England setup, which is a respectable move in footballing terms — but what about the rest? I suppose Jacko’s the only other one who’s managed to carve out any sort of name for himself.2

Got a lot of time for Dean.
Watched him and his wife talking in an interview recently about dealing with grief, in relation to losing their daughter. Tough watch, but also very inspirational at the same time.
Good luck in your new job Deano 👍21 -
I suspect it wasn't a genuine rumour but in my opinion Luke Molyneux would be a decent signing . Quick , left footed with something to prove with a good pedigree having come through the Academy at Sunderland
As long as we also take on players experienced at the level he could be a good wildcard signing.2 -
Think you meant this to go on the rumours thread mate? @Richard JRichard J said:I suspect it wasn't a genuine rumour but in my opinion Luke Molyneux would be a decent signing . Quick , left footed with something to prove with a good pedigree having come through the Academy at Sunderland

Decent bloke, but does seem much more suited to be the "good cop" coach/assistant than the main man.

Like others I think he is a better coach than manager0

Loved SCP as a player and a manager at Charlton, and believe there is always a role for him at our club, but he wasn’t part of (a very successful) England set up because of his outstanding coaching skills. That said he played a very important pastoral role as well as a coaching role when it was required.CAFCTrev said:It feels like every manager we had during our "banter era" has completely fallen off the radar since leaving. Karel Fraeye who many felt was a basket case at CAFC went on to great success with Lommel, a 2nd division Belgium side with preventing relegation and then promotion the next season.
Fraeye torn up the coaching Manual, and just told his players to run around a lot and play with a smile on their faces.
Many Charlton fans thought he was a Winker.

I don't think that's true, he was only there for 8 months and they were in the second division the whole time. He was sacked with them bottom of the league.soapboxsam said:CAFCTrev said:It feels like every manager we had during our "banter era" has completely fallen off the radar since leaving. Karel Fraeye is the biggest joke in our history4

Got a lot of time for Holden as a guy , probably a very good coach/No2 just not cut out as a number 1.2

Les Reed for example has had a distinguished career as a coach and technical director, but wasn't cut out to be a manager,2

Well, shit (re Hull financial problems).
I hope he has some money stored away from his Saudi Arabia jaunt.
He is apparently joining for a focus on defense. I'd assumed that meant football defense, but perhaps he has some legal expertise.0 -

As you’d expect from him, but a classy touch coming over to clap the away fans before the game yesterday24

Decent bloke, I imagine he's an effective " good cop" coach, but not a manager. Similar to Curtis Fleming I suspect.5

Chants of ‘Deano’ too. Good bloke. I’ve got a lot of time for him. We at least got shades of our identity back with him.NabySarr said:As you’d expect from him, but a classy touch coming over to clap the away fans before the game yesterday
