Thought he was off the charts good tonight. He's a bit better on the ball than he gets credit for, but in game like that where we have minimal possession he really comes into his own. His reading of the game and positioning to plug gaps and make blocks/interceptions is exceptionally good.

I think he must have read the match thread at half time

  • I am a fan of his - I think he is far more important to this team than many people give him credit for.
So much of his impact can’t be measured in heat maps or raw stats.

His best games this season have been against Leicester, Sheffield United and last night against Ipswich. He’s so well suited to those games against the bigger budget teams
  • His worst game this season was against Watford and I was concerned. Since then he is a Lloyd Jones/Coventry in terms of first names on the team sheet.

He’s fucking class and looks better in this division than League One.

He isn’t the most talented player I’ve watched for Charlton but neither was Johnnie Jackson … Doc “gets it” just like JJ did.

Look at this video at 10:50 after Wembley. https://youtu.be/dlh-AQmkWz8?si=QvaBQuEydv9TwbYa

“That’s for you! That for youuuuu! ” the bloke …. gets it 👍

What I like about him is that sometimes it feels like to get at our defence you have to first get past Doc (and Coventry, tbf) and then if you somehow get past one of our defenders, then you'll have to get past Doc again because he's already read what's happening and is in position to backup his team mate. And then there will be probably another defender (Lloyd Jones) behind him.

It's a real team effort, but him and Lloyd Jones, in particular, really epitomize the organized and tenacious bodies on the line defending that NJ has drilled into this team.

We're a bit like watching Murray or Djokovic play tennis - there's plenty of skill there but the biggest secret to those guys' success was their ability to make opponents play just one more shot that so often lead to the breakdown of a rally. We are like that, if you want to get a shot on goal, you'll need to beat one more man or play one more pass and it's that "one more" that forces the error or allows the tackle to be made.

It's not for the purists but I love watching it happen over and over again and see us demonstrate weekly that it's no coincidence that so many teams have their worst game of the season against us.

What a captain he has turned out to be.
Any doubts that I had about him have been well and truly dispelled.

When Greg does interviews he is a natural, even straight after the game he is articulate and does not come out with the usual football platitudes. Definite future pundit if he decides to go down that route after he packs in playing.

There’s a great bit in @Braziliance’s vlog where the team are walking back to the tunnel and Doc turns around to do some fist pumps to the away fans. He just gets the club

He strikes me as a coaching guy more than a pundit personally, but I agree he could go either way. Funnily enough Jacko was exactly the same

Can’t wait for Doc to win the Champions League with us as gaffer in 2035

Did a training ground day with the kids last season and he was so friendly and good with the kids,  a genuine true gentleman.

Seems really intelligent and well spoken which is massive for a captain.

Bloke needs his own song badly.

Will be interesting to see the reception he gets v Hull, his previous club.

He's certainly not the passenger or weakest link that many labelled him pre-season.

Even though they played in completely different roles for us, I can't help associating Greg Docherty with Keith Peacock. Neither player particularly spectacular, but their consistency of performance, and intelligence as players make them both a bit of a manager's dream.
Yeah, consistency and intelligence is what links those two players for me, even though I wondered what the fuss was about when we first signed Greg Docherty.
    Excellent captain material.

To think after the Watford game the debate was who was going to replace him in the team, since then he has got better and better, so much of his work goes under the radar, it was the same last season what he does for this team is so integral to how Nathan sets us up, he’s a real fighter.

Well quite, which is why for all everyone talking about ‘players better on the ball’, when we do upgrade Doc, it will be for a player like Doc.

We will probably get it again in January like we have the last 3 windows about us needing to sign a playmaker. Despite the fact we’ve been promoted and are now 5th in the championship without one people will still call for it!

On the Hull forum it's pretty.much 100% positive "great pro" kinds of comments.

What's the odds for him for anytime goalscorer on Saturday. He's not what you'd call a goalscoring midfielder, but he does get into enough good attacking positions that you could argue he is due one.

Feel like he was offering to deck me after I keep criticising him tbf,

Jokes aside, he has been really good the last few games, as have Cov and Sonny. All 3 undroppable currently, it's going to be very hard for Knibbs to break into this team, which I suspect is even surprising Jones as he was undoubtedly signed to start with his history and form.

Fair play to Doc, an example of pure hard work, intrigued to see how he plays vs Hull as that's a big one for him.
