Extra speed doesn't really matter. If it's fast enough to keep up it's fast enough!IdleHans said:I've recently subscribed to Surfshark and when giving you a list of server locations from which to choose, it advises which are the fastest. These for me are Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Poland, italy and the US. So I reckon the answer to your query is yes, with the US included due to good infrastructure.
Less obviously, India is also on the list.
I'm still searching for the country where Charlton always win!1 -
I’m interested to know why you say the stream is not even HD. Is it the bitrate ?BalladMan said:n
Yes in theory. Near location = Lower latency = faster and more stable connection. To be honest, the throughput of the CharltonTV feed is not particularly data hungry (it’s not 4K or even HD) so I don’t suspect it would make a massive difference in this particular case.IPragueAddick said:
Hi, @BalladMan as a tech savvy Lifer do you agree with the advice I came across recently that it’s best to choose a location which is physically as close to your actual location as possible?BalladMan said:
I think it was stated higher in this thread, Germany have not purchased champ rights so appears the best bet (location and availability).fenlandaddick said:oohaahmortimer said:What’s the destination of choice where to watch this from , meaning I haven’t a clue what country to choose cos the kids couldn’t get on last time from Luxembourg where we’ve always gone to to watch .choice of three for me.LuxembourgBelgiumGermanyI would probably focus more on the locations that are likely NOT to be geo blocked (Germany, as you said) than a country nearer to origin than Germany.0 -
It is HD, but it is not full HD. So runs at a lower bit rate than 1080 full HD.It is likely the quality provided to Charlton by the streaming provider from the EFL.I can only assume the EFL are stuck in the noughties, and that is the reason.2

Greetings from Belgium 🇧🇪1

As it is a Sky requirement that all league matches are covered by at least a 4 or 5 man crew, it would seem logical that the picture from the cameras is full HD or 4K, so it’s what EFL do that downgrades the stream.fenlandaddick said:It is HD, but it is not full HD. 4k TV has been out for years. No reason why a stream cannot be 4k aside from camera and cost of bandwidth and storage. Always money.Hex said:

HD and full HD is a bit pedantic. It’s not 1080p or above so therefore not a what most would qualify as HD. As I said, base it on availability rather than latency as it always streams to me as potato quality.fenlandaddick said:It is HD, but it is not full HD. They will need cameras who can do 4k as well.fenlandaddick said:

You would need an 8Gb connection to stream in 4k, and that is currently not available in this country. Most fibre lines are only capable to about 1Gb currently, not that you would reach those speeds, as the data is not sent at that rate.fenlandaddick said:

Beyond that, you tend to get packet (data) loss with broadcast protocols used for steaming, which you see as pixilation.
You are right, it is about money, but probably not the magnitude you expect. It will be the next upgrade when companies have finished building their fibre networks.0 -
