You say in the summer that finishing 21st would be a great result but once the season starts every unsuccessful game is a disaster. Being midtable after 9 games isn't good enough, there's still anger and head shaking. The football isn't fun to watch, the wins come too late, the other teams are better than us (even when they lose to us), the sky is perpetually falling and only the fans can see it. I do wonder a bit if anyone actually enjoys supporting the football team anymore. I was hoping the positivity would last a bit longer after promotion, especially given the decent start, but some of you really need to chill. We're in the Championship! We get to play Leicester and Watford instead of Stockport and Mansfield! Cheer up a bit!
We of course ended that season in relegation.
Personally, I'm finding the football better this season - much less head tennis and midfield ping pong than in League One, and while the general dearth of goals from the strikers is a bit of a concern, the defenders and midfielders are chipping in, and scoring some bloody good goals. I've no idea where we going to end up, but I'm enjoying the ride.
My point is, we don't know what was going to happen, and it is the same now. I would be happy with 21st, and I would take that right now if offered with a chance to rebuild, as pessimistic as that may sound.1 -
We're a proper Championship club again. At last.0

Personally, I want to see Charlton be a stable Championship club for many years and never see League 1 again, being like Barsnley, Wigan, Rotherham etc long term won't cut it for me.
Not saying we will go down again, it's just pointing out that technically we were a better team at this stage last time yet we still went down.

Don’t think we could have asked for much more without being unrealistic. Fitness impeccable as always, defensively look brilliant, midfield been very impressive considering there was big question marks over doc and Carey especially, thought before the season it was easily the worse in the league. Genuinely believe we’re a Lyle Taylor and Karlan Grant off playoffs, none of our forwards I’ve been impressed with regardless of the system.I think the football is as entertaining it can be considering the way we play happy we haven’t resorted to constant long ball like the start of last year, severe lack of technical quality but think that’s a sacrifice I’m happy with considering we’re arguably one of the best sides off the ball in the league.1

They got to lockdown with their striker walking out and another 2 squad players following.
Only twice that season we were in the bottom 3.
I would struggle to describe anything on the pitch that season as woeful.5 -
Positives
Defence again look solid Lloyd Jones is top end champ quality and the rest aren’t far behind
Docherty is way better than I thought
We are back at our natural home level wise as a tier 2 club, great crowds unreal away support
We’ve pissed off millwall as they thought we would be stranded at the bottom and their 250 page thread on us that’s lasted 5 years keeps growing
Negatives
Still can’t beat Millwall ever ever ever
Kelman is gonna be another Luke Varney
The style of football is horrible but needed to keep us in the division, hopefully after time better players join and we progress

Pleasantly surprised by our midfield. Doc looks a different player and Coventry and Carey have exceeded my expectations. Clear we should have pursued an experienced forward as the we are are taking a risk on a number of young forwards who are inexperienced at this level and who haven been productive yet.
The Lutonites have been consistent if unspectacular0 -
That the football is not going to be pretty. Especially away from home0
-
Have learnt the following
1 - the defensive set up is solid, but deffo need to play proper wing backs in the wing back positions
2 - Long balls for Kelman and Campbell to win in the air probably not the best idea
3 - It is a tough league, we need to take chances and take advantage when we are on top (1 point from Leics/Millwall was a travesty)
4 - Jones is 100% the right man to lead this club
5 - we are more competitive than I thought we would be
6 - Kelman will come good2 -
We need to do absolutely everything we can to ensure we don’t go down again this season. We have more chance of long term stability for every year we remain in the Championship.
We need to score more goals.
We’re in the healthiest place we’ve been for many a year off the field in terms of ownership. It’s no coincidence we got promoted once that stabilised. The anomaly was getting promoted under Roland. Pretty much all the clubs with a shit show ownership get relegated - Leicester and Cardiff cases in point last season. We need to beat Millwall. Wouldn’t that be nice?0 - Sponsored links:

The time to worry about finishing 21st is towards the end of the season should we then be involved in a relegation dogfight.
Right now, that's not where we are at, is it?
We can only play one game at a time - and 3 points from the next game is our only focus.

Whilst we are not hugely expansive I think we are different to most sides in this league with the intensity which we play with. I think this will be enough to catch quite a few teams out. Jones has brought real balance to the squad and we do have some aces in the pack (Apter playing in home games when we want to go on the front foot for example).
I’m actually not that impressed at all. However I do think this comes with the fact that we have a lot of new championship managers whether that be newly appointed managers or promoted sides that haven’t managed in the division before ie. Chris Davies. I think the league is wide open. I don’t feel like any team has taken us to the cleaners as of yet and I really do think teams will have to work hard to do so.
Yes I do think we have enough to stay up. I feel like in time a few of our strikers will click and all start chipping in. I feel like Kelman getting a goal and kicking on is just around the corner. His performances are definitely getting closer to where I’m sure he and NJ would like them to be.
Consistency. Which I don’t think many teams will have. I don’t even think a team will run away with the league let alone a playoff contender. I predict that the league is going to be extremely tightly bunched come the end of the season.
Curbishley summed it up perfectly on the review show recently that this league is like a PL2. I for one am not bothered about promotion at all, at least for a few years. I just want to see us be competitive in this league. I hate watching premier league football these days and also looking at what it does to teams now (Sheff Utd, Burnley, Leeds) you just turn in to a yo yo team, losing your best assets in the process. I am not interested in becoming that at all.

What’s your thoughts on how the team is set up and performing?
Above expectations- would like a bit more from our forwards, but we have come to expect this sort of football from a Nathan Jones side, so apart from that good going.
What’s your thoughts on the standard of the Championship compared to your expectations?
Poor if I am honest. I knew Sheffield Wednesday were going to put up a fight (and the efl kicking their points dedications like tumble weed), but expected a lot more results like QPR and Preston rather than what we got against Blackburn and Sheff Utd.
Do you think we have enough to stay up?If we sign Bree probably- will probably come back to this at the end of November. The Championship is a tight league so anything can happen.
What do you think is needed to be a play off challenger?
Holding of any play-off dreams till at least the end of January.
Any other thoughts? That sort of thing.
This is not a season we can really analyse after 10 games it looks like. Hopefully by the end of November we should have a clearer understanding of what we are fighting for.

Some fantastic comments herein.0

To be unbeaten, top of the table and really pushing for promotion is incredible given we lost some key players in the close season. Continuity with a fantastic and driven manager shows what can be achieved, despite some others outspending us significantly. Squad depth will be vital in the long haul, especially with injuries starting to impact. Roll on Sheffield United at The Valley on Sunday - hoping for a bumper turnout.
The men aren’t doing too badly either.7 -
I've learnt that the Old Bill are, shamefully, absolutely terrified of Millwall fans.0
-
I've learned enough to be confident of survival but equally I'm sure that unless we have a truly exceptional (and expensive) January window we are going to end up nearer the bottom than the top. Probably not ever flirting with relegation but most likely some distance off the top 6 when all is said and done.
In League One we were the absolute masters of pressing, physicality and grinding down teams for a late sucker punch. And while that has worked again against MOST teams this season (and will continue to do so), there are teams in this league who've been doing that before we got here and at a higher level, and fatigue WILL be an issue eventually, no matter what condition the players are in.0 -
I’ve learned that after 11yrs away…………I’m really fecking missing The Valley.
See you at the Baggies game ya eejits 😎0 -
I've learned that survival is the most important task at hand and to not get carried away with any positive form we may produce.
The club has to keep moving forward in every kind of way.
It is about the club and the fans.
The people who work for Charlton will always be coming and going.0 -
I've learned that giving up my seat in LWS for a seat behind the goal (to save dosh) was not a good idea. Terrific atmosphere in the covered end, but I will need new glasses.
Fun to be in the concourse outside the West Stand before the game, but why is the TV monitor smaller?
Bigger crowds are awesome, and the atmosphere is great!
Docherty and Coventry are doing well, but we still don't set up many chances for our strikers.
Pleased for Gillesphey to make an impact and score, but we need Edwards and Bell back asp.0 - Sponsored links:

Looking forward to the "Countdown to P********" thread...😉0

21st up is brilliant for now
so doing better than I could have hoped
think we’re capable of losing 5 on the spin and capable of being unbeaten in 5
still unsure on some of the newbies but this is The Championship and it’s par for us and we belong here .
no more pretending the pizza trophy is anything but a shameful competition for our first team to be in with u21 teams ffs and I didn’t want us to make Wembley for that shit , we made Wembley for a meaningful fixture and will live with us forever not some tin pot fake day out of shame.
More fans realising that the scum are our only real rivals and moving their hatred across from the croydon cnuts to the zampa road muppets is a good thing to .0 -

I don't particularly enjoy how we play except for the standout performances (Blackburn 3 nil, Wycombe 4 nil, Northampton 5 nil etc). I do enjoy when we get results though of course.
I don't enjoy the ride as I don't see the Championship as a ride, I see it as where we should always be playing at a minimum, and until we are a consistent Championship outfit again, I'll always be a bit underwhelmed as a fan, just the truth.
My point about the points total last time was to not get my hopes up, as it can all change very quickly. It's a harsh league.
I am enjoying the away days again as I was sick of Northampton, Peterborough, Shrewsbury, Wycombe etc, and it's nice to visit big grounds again, see the Valley and Jimmy Seed full, but until we are a stable Championship club again, consistently, I won't be happy. It's the absolute bare minimum for me as a Charlton fan.

It would be like someone who is bothered by positive posts going on said threads and querying why everyone is being so positive.
It's a platform to share views. Fair enough ask why someone feels said way, but whenever someone does one of those types of posts it all feels a bit righteous. I enjoy the mixed opinions and not everyone just repeating the same thing.0
