Injuries definitely held him back, too, although I'd argue in a different way. He's been in L2 for the past three seasons and has played 45, 39 and 49 games and is still there, and not really pulling up any trees.

He always struck me as someone who wasn't bothered about winning, scoring, etc.. Some players have that urgent desire.

Injuries definitely held him back, too, although I'd argue in a different way. He's been in L2 for the past three seasons and has played 45, 39 and 49 games and is still there, and not really pulling up any trees.

He always struck me as someone who wasn't bothered about winning, scoring, etc.. Some players have that urgent desire.

Rather an odd career after leaving us, as he went up to Championship Cardiff for 6 months, then dropped straight down to L2 where he's in his 4th season now.

Also strange that in 22/23 for Swindon he scored 10 goals in 37 league games (and was their top scorer), whereas the next season for Gillingham in 42 league games he failed to score at all!

A player who has had a career of over 400 professional games...but yep, everything you think is probably right - he couldn't be bothered from the start....

Was surprised to see that with us he'd played the second most games in his career, only 10 fewer than for Reading.

He's had a ridiculous number of loan moves. Indeed he's played in an amazing number of divisions, virtually every level in the English pyramid, plus he's played in Ireland, Scotland and Germany!

This has been very much my view.

For his sake, hopefully his financial future is bright and he has not missed out on earning large sums of money.

He's been able to play at high level but he has roamed around and had many clubs.

Reports/Rumours say that personal circumstances have taken priority over his career, if true, that can be commended.

Obviously he's been buried at the crossroads with a stake through his heart and obviously his deficiencies were pretty glaring in retrospect (chiefly: not wanting to run much, being a bit dozy), but for 95% of the time he looked imperious and could do wonderful things with the ball and in the challenge. I suppose what I've learnt is that a defender is as good as their worst 5%

If it really was 95/5 he would still be playing for a league club.

I think it’s quite clear that his motivations have not been to play at the highest level possible. After leaving us he’d easily have been able to pick up a deal in the EFL, but location is all that matters to him, and fair play to him for prioritising his family over his career/earnings

I'm not sure it's that worthy, a 32/33 year old effectively giving up his professional career 3 years early.

It's not as if footballers can take a career break for the family, and then return 5 years later.

He's a very good defender, but if you asked him to play for a better team he’d be exposed in possession and exposed when asked to defend much higher up the pitch than he does with Stevenage. That’s why his career has hit a ceiling, he’s very good at what he does, and in that role he’s probably one of the best in league 1. But that doesn’t mean he would have been a good signing for us

Na, we didn't have the version of Lloyd Jones we had in the 24/25 and this season, he was struggling with injury and no one on this forum knew just how good he would become.

Macca was a January signing.

I was comparing him to Terell & Hector, who were more main stay in our side.

Even if I was to compare Piergianni to Macca and Lloydy that season, he wins that debate, comfortably. Stats will back that up. Number 1 rated player on WhoScored, Number 2 on SofaScore. The best centre back that season alongside Cashin, that's a statistical fact, not an opinion.

His age went against him transfer wise, if he was younger, he would be at a bigger club, just like Lloyd Jones now. If Lloyd Jones was playing to this level and was in his early 20s, he would be elsewhere this season.

As for his playstyle, in the last two seasons, he has almost identical passing stats to Lloydy before he came to Charlton (66-68%) it is only since Lloyd has been here his passing stats have improved, that's what coaching is for.

This isn't about Lloyd anyway, this is just about how many shit centre backs we have had in the last decade. Makes me laugh.
