MATCH THREAD : Derby County V Charlton Athletic : Tuesday 30th September 2025 : KO 20.00

Good evening everybody...Tonight we travel up to Pride Park Stadium, where Derby County will be our hosts...

Derby currently  sit one place and one point outside the drop zone, in a position I would think they would not have seen themselves in so early into the season, and have just one win on the board so far, having dropped 8 points this season so far from winning positions so sounds like they are used to losing the lead, but we won't give them that opportunity, will we...
We should arrive full of confidence after last Saturdays win against Blackburn Rovers at The Valley, and will be going for a hat trick of wins tonight...
We all know about Mannion, Berry, and Godden, and can't see Edwards being available either after hobbling off in the Blackburn match, and regarding Derby they will be without Sondre Langas, Curtis Nelson, Owen Beck, CBT, and Rhian Brewster...

HEAD-TO-HEAD

We have gone toe-to-toe on 91 previous occasions winning 32, the Rams 39 and the remaining 20 fixtures resulting in draws, we came from behind to claim a 2-1 victory at Pride Park Stadium when we last met in February last year, thanks to goals from Alfie May and Karoy Anderson.

We will be wearing our red home kit in the East Midlands, that will be really good so COME ON YOU REDS, here we go...

Team...

Macaulay Gillesphey will make his first league start of the season this evening.

Kayne Ramsay also returns to the starting lineup as Nathan Jones makes two changes to the team that beat Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Josh Edwards misses out with an ankle in injury, while Reece Burke moves to the bench.

It means Lloyd Jones will join Ramsay and Gillesphey in a back three in front of Thomas Kaminski.

James Bree and Amari’i Bell are likely to operate as wing backs with Sonny Carey, Conor Coventry and captain Greg Docherty in midfield.

Charlie Kelman and Tyreece Campbell once again start up front.

Burke is joined on the bench by Ashley Maynard-Brewer, Joe Rankin-Costello, Luke Berry, Karoy Anderson, Rob Apter, Harvey Knibbs, Miles Leaburn and Tanto Olaofe.

Charlton: Kaminski; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey; Bree, Carey, Coventry, Docherty (c), Bell; Kelman, Campbell

Subs: Maynard-Brewer, Burke, Rankin-Costello, Berry, Anderson, Apter, Knibbs, Leaburn, Olaofe

  • Dare we approach this with a modicum of hope?

More than a modicum. If anything I think I'm overconfident
  • I am relaxed. Barring injuries or red cards I have a ‘nothing to lose something to gain’ attitude.

  • It’s nice to know that if we can repeat the performance from Saturday we win.
  • Cawley’s confirmed Hernández is there but he can’t see Edwards.
  • If we aren't confident after last Saturday, when will we be...another three points to the tally...

So Gillesphey replaces Edwards, Ramsay replaces Burke who is joined on the bench by Luke Berry for the first time this season
Will it not be a back 3 of Ramsay, Gillesphey and Jones with Bell and Bree on the left and right?

  • What does Olaofe have to do to start .. ??
He is one of our game changers don't cha know.

We lull the opposition into thinking we cant hit a barn door with a banjo & then...WALLOP.  Suddenly we have goals a plenty.
  • Tanto not in for TC and Kelman keeps his place.

    Let the mouth foaming begin.
  • What does Olaofe have to do to start .. ??
Maybe he should stop impacting games from the bench if he doesn't want to keep having to make cameos from the bench.

    Only kind of half joking.

What happened to "if it ain't broke.."?
  • Happy enough with this, think NJ sees Kelman and TC as a way to wear down their defence then unleash Leaburn and Olaofe on them.. worked perfectly against Blackburn so no reason why it won't work again tonight.

Yeah I was just outlining the personnel changes rather than where they’ll play
  • A bit bummed out to not see Tanto starting. Think he'd tire out the Derby defense, which could help TC and Kelman create problems in the last 20-25 minutes. Otherwise, no complaints.

I'd be pleased with a point tonight, to be honest.
  • I can understand the calls for Kelman and/or TC to be dropped because, on paper, they look like they’ve been ineffective. But it’s a team game and a 90 minute game and the job they do allows Tanto and Leaburn to come on and make a difference.

    Why change the winning formula?
TC has started to flag quite early recently so personally thought he might be rested but can also see why Jones would want to keep it as is.

Its almost like people feel the need to complain for the sake of it.

If we started losing games by switching the line up to what they're asking for, I wonder who would get blamed for the defeat
