I don't know how relevant this is, but many people my age use their console as their media device. My dad gets sky and nicely had a spare device on his plan that I use on my PS5.

The sky app on consoles is terrible and they don't allow you to access red button content like many EFL games.

There are threads of this for online help and they just say 'sorry don't do that' when it's the same price and service.

Something I imagine they could fix fairly easily but they just are such tight nobs they don't bother.

That’s by design, it’s the same using Sky Go on a laptop. They don’t want you to be able to access games via their apps using someone else’s account.

For me it takes the value away from the Charlton Live international subscription. I’ve just had to subscribe to Paramount+ in the States. An extra $7.99 a month. I suppose I can watch the Champions League on there. Last season it was all covered free on CBS.

Times they are a changing.

The more people that sign up to VPNs, the less chance there is that Microsoft and Google will be able to control (and charge for) absolutely everything we do on our computers!

I use a VPN to enable me to pay Charlton £10 so that i can watch a game i wasn't going to, so everyone wins really.

I can't see the Preston game up to buy yet.

In terms of my VPN, which happens to be Nord, it offers me general protection. I have a dark web monitor, ad and tracker blocker, advanced browsing protection and anti malware as well as the VPN feature. Also it is available on 10 devices. Great value for what works out at just over £4 per month.

Hi, @BalladMan as a tech savvy Lifer do you agree with the advice I came across recently that its best to choose a location which is physically as close to your actual location as possible?

I've recently subscribed to Surfshark and when giving you a list of server locations from which to choose, it advises which are the fastest. These for me are Spain, France, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Poland, italy and the US. So I reckon the answer to your query is yes, with the US included due to good infrastructure.
Less obviously, India is also on the list.

The £7-a-month Charlton TV option says on the website you can’t watch live games - can I still purchase a membership as if I am in the UK first or do I have to pretend I’m in a different country first via a VPN or is that irrelevant?

I think I have got the gist of the VPN and how to use it, thankfully.

You'll need to be abroad and in a country that does not have rights to show the match to buy the match stream for a tenner, or the streaming season ticket. Those options won't show if you are in the uk

Yes in theory. Near location = Lower latency = faster and more stable connection. To be honest, the throughput of the CharltonTV feed is not particularly data hungry (it’s not 4K or even HD) so I don’t suspect it would make a massive difference in this particular case.

I would probably focus more on the locations that are likely NOT to be geo blocked (Germany, as you said) than a country nearer to origin than Germany.
