After hearing that news make it December.golfaddick said:The longer he is out the worse our front line looks.
Just hope he hasn't had a set back & wont be back until Nov.0 -
Part of being a well run club is having a squad depth sufficient for the requirements of the season. Zero reason to rush him back as we have the depth to cover his injury. Would have a fit Godden starting but worth waiting for him to be fully fit.2

We aren't lacking attacking options in the squad and things seem to be slowly clicking into place. Luckily have goals coming from all over the pitch at the moment.
No sense in rushing Godden back, just for him to break down again.
He'll help with our push for the playoffs when fully fit.3 -

The thing is, Godden is 34 now. And he's had what is evidently a more serious injury than originally thought (or originally made public, take your pick).
As much as we all hope he will come back into the team at whatever point this season and start firing on all cylinders and carry on from where he left off, I think we also have to be a bit more realistic. Unfortunately I can remember what happened to Clive Mendonca and Andy Hunt after both of their standout seasons for us. Hopefully history doesn't repeat itself here.

Dr Will Abbott leaves, and the Charlton injury curse returns.
This will culminate in Godden after 6 months being taken to the vets to be put down.6 -
I find it a bit odd that Godden didn’t have the op immediately after the play off final - seems it wasn’t until after the start of pre-season. Disappointing to hear he’s still struggling with it - knees are complicated joints. GWS.0

It appears the conservative route to recovery didn’t work out.Godden has scored 32 goals in 81 Championship starts (117 including sub appearances), which is pretty solid at this level. After scoring 19 league goals for us last season, he would have entered Championship life with a real buzz.
Despite references to his age, we’re missing our talisman, a clinical finisher and a pest with his movement and aerial ability.8 -
While godden certainly may improve our attack, the concern is how surgery will affect a 34 year old.2
-
Even a fit Godden would not be getting much supply at the moment and would be feeding off scraps too.Bostonaddick said:While godden certainly may improve our attack, the concern is how surgery will affect a 34 year old.1 -

Would players be more willing to play riskier balls into him over Kelman? At the moment they seem to be either trying to put them on a plate for him or to miss him entirely.CaptainRobbo said:

Step forward the new Aneke0

If, (and it could be a big if when considering age and injury) we get the Godden we had last season, he will get more supply because he’s just much better than Kelman at holding the ball up and battling defenders. This gets us up the pitch and into attacking positions more often for chances to be createdCaptainRobbo said:

Already have Leaburn Oloafe Kelman TC Godden not to mention Ahadme Kanu Mbick and Dixon on loan. We may need a better striker but it’s not like we have the space to bring one in unless some of these players start leaving out the door permanentlyElfsborgAddick said:SouthWest_Addicks said:Part of being a well run club is having a squad depth sufficient for the requirements of the season. Not saying we don’t need a striker but do we even have the money to bring in someone better than what we have we’ve already spent big this summer, a 6 month loan deal would make sense but unless we’re in massive danger of relegation Jones is probably going to persist with the attackElfsborgAddick said:Crispywood said:

We apparently tried for Fofana on deadline day so I don’t think we’d be against bringing another in. Though that might have been due to Godden’s injury
If the current 5 aren’t firing by January I’m sure we will look to bring another in, but I still think we’ve got goals in that 52 -
a striker can only strike if he is given the ball in an advantageous position from which to score, I'm not sure we have the players to do that, certainly not TC who flatters to deceive.4

I counted 3 crosses Carey and Bree put across the 6 yard box today, Godden scored 10 goals last seasons from chances from 0-12 yards excluding pens we don’t create many chances but when we do we have no one with Godden level of footballing IQ to be in the right position at the right time6

Yep no one gambled in the box the sniffer dog would have loved a few of them balls and got to the near post.Crispywood said:I counted 3 crosses Carey and Bree put across the 6 yard box today, Godden scored 10 goals last seasons from chances from 0-12 yards excluding pens we don’t create many chances but when we do we have no one with Godden level of footballing IQ to be in the right position at the right time0
