A Question about water bottles inside the ground..

So in all the decades I’ve been coming to the Valley, I’ve never once been told that water bottles aren’t allowed inside the ground. But this season it’s suddenly become a thing, ok I have no issues with removing the lid but apparently it’s now a safety risk of being an object that can be thrown on the pitch..

…but we sell water bottles inside the ground 🤦🏼‍♂️ does anyone know the official club line on this?

You're allowed water bottles, because if they didn't they've got an obligation to provide easy to access and free potable water, and they don't really have that as you need to join the miles long queues to be able to get water right now.

Bag checked at the ground today, 2 big bottles of Evian, no problems

Thanks, I’ve contacted the Fan Advisors to get an official answer but it seems they’ve got it wrong.. especially as I sit in the same block as you!
  • Phew I thought as the winter months approached I'd have to double up on blankets.
  • I checked the rules for getting into Twickenham yesterday which showed you couldn't take bottles in.

No checks going into the stadium.

All around me people had metal bottles of water.

Ended up paying £2.50 for a bottle of water with the top removed. Just a single water foutain in a very large part of the concourse.

If you get a reply from them, please let us all know. Thanks
  • They didn't seem to be operating the tops off bottles policy in the covered end yesterday. Nipped down to get my boy a drink about 10mins into the 2nd half and they were dishing them out without fuss. Ive taken metal water bottles in previously too, so sounds like you just got caught by an over officious steward there.
  • I suspect it depends on who you are. They wouldn't be bothered by someone elderly or a family group with bottles,  but might be more strict with "Yoofs"?
  • I bring in a metal water bottle that would hurt you if it hit you on the head.  Can only assume that they think I'm too weak to reach the pitch if I chucked it
  • I have a solid plastic water bottle which I was taking into the West Stand on Saturday. The pleasant guy searching my bag asked me if I thought it was OK. I said 'yes' but checked with a supervisor in case I got him in trouble. The supervisor wasn't sure but got distracted before he made up his mind so I just waked through the turnstiles anyway.

I’ll take that as a compliment if they consider me young enough to be that!

Fan Advisors have said there’s been no change in policy about plastic bottles and will report back with clarification from the club

Just as well - some of the sights would've been horrific!

I still have nightmares about the play-off semi-final…

  • If they're not allowing flasks, the ground's gonna be empty come winter.

Do you still sit in Row A?
  • If you can’t bring water bottles, what are my kids supposed to put their gin and tonic in?
  • I arrived at Derby tonight with a bag. Steward checked it said fine in you go.

As I started to walk in, another ran over and told me I couldn't take it in as it was too large.  I told him it was not too large. He said ok, and let me in.
So, not just Charlton with over officious stewards! 🤣
