Blackburn at home a bell weather game

  • Blackburn games always remind me of when they played Welling back in the mid 80s - felt like half the Charlton fans at the time were squeezed into Park View Road. Welling deserved at least a draw from memory.
  • “Attendance” might hit 20k but I doubt that will be 20k  tickets used or 20k tickets paid for

Completely forgot I went to that. 0-1 and Terry Robbins hit the post, or went very close, if I remember rightly.
  • Blackburn games that spring to mind,
FA cup 0-0 game and Alan Shearer fails to score against Charlton both home and away.

Really cold midwinter game at Selhurst park that was a bore draw 0-0.

Curbishley last game as manager at The Valley on a Friday evening 0-2.

So 16500 crowd watch a 0-0 game this saturday.

Yep. Trevor Booker tore them a new one.

And Glover had a header that was clearly over the line.

They had the likes of Scott Sellars, Simon Garner and Colin Hendry playing for them

It was a late Saturday evening game on sky
  • It's bellwether.

Unless you think that it will be windy and cause bells to ring.

If we can keep Tugay quiet, I fancy a home win.
Although Duff and Dunn can also be a handful.

I can here looking for the shipping forecast, imagine my surprise..
  • Nothing to do with weather, all about the catsrated male sheep as any fool knows:

'The term "bellwether" is derived from the Middle English words belle ("bell") and wether ("wether" or castrated male sheep), referring to the lead sheep in a flock, which wore a bell to guide the shepherd. This literal meaning evolved into a metaphorical use, where a "bellweth-er" is something that indicates future trends, such as a company that signals an industry's direction or a state that reflects a national voting pattern.'

Here's hoping the Blackburn attack is castrated (not literally) throughout the game.

I hate catsration, it’s much too small a portion for a full sheep
  • Disgraceful post that lowers the reputation of the entire forum. It's 'bellweather' man!

    A
  • I did operation Ewood - coach from Orpington to Gatwick, flight to Liverpool and coach to the ground...long day.  Very disappointing!  On the day it was announced Curbs was leaving we were home to Blackburn and I was in the Director's box with my (now ex) wife having won an eBay auction for a Director's box experience...another disappointing result!  Really hoping that today will be a better experience!

Blackburn Rovers are much more enjoyable opposition than the likes of Stockport/Oldham.

Memories of us v Blackburn include the 2004 3-2 win at home.

Brad friedal and Jensen on the score sheet.

Operation Ewood was a bit of a shitter.

Arguably, Blackburn at the Valley on 26 April 1958 was one of the pivotal games in our history, leading as it did to 28 years outside of the top flight. A crowd of over 56,000 saw Charlton lose 3-4 when a draw would have been sufficient to get promoted back to the top flight at the first time of asking. The season before, Charlton had been relegated after 21 years in the old First Division. Ironically Blackburn were promoted instead after the win at the Valley.
  • 19,004 the attendance, not bad considering the uninspiring opponents
