Looks like Sainsbury’s has been hacked again. Just had a delivery from Pepper Hill branch this morning and noticed they hadn’t taken money. The driver said there was a problem and they now have had to shut the petrol station as they can’t take money. Chaos in IT
It's not a hack. There's a problem with Visa affecting multiple merchants/customers.
So why close petrol stations when you can pay by cash?
People drive up, fill up, then go to pay card and have no cash? Could lead to a lot of angry customers / those that can't pay.
One would assume this would only effect a small number of people, once the stores realise the issue its likely theybwould ever close or have signage outside saying cash only
I was answering a question as to why close a petrol station when you can pay by cash. One of your answers was, close the petrol station which was exactly my point.
We can't live without technology in 2025, cash is no good if there are no goods in shops because of a cyber attack. Both M& S and Co-op had supply issues linked to the cyber attack.
We definitely can live without technology, it would just be a very different style of living. Less convenient.
Currently working on a hire for an offensive cyber security role. To say ethical hackers are ‘interesting’ characters is an understatement.
'Offensive Security Lead' is literally my job title. I'll leave it to the forum to decide whether or not I'm 'interesting'... 😏
Do you tell people to fuck off all day?
Soon as the title went up on LinkedIn I had abiut 50 responses from people I've worked with in the past along the lines of 'Finally - a job description that truly fits' 😏
Going through Heathrow today was fine for me, the quickest I've ever got through it! BA did have their backup system when boarding the plane, and we pushed back 30mins late but still made it on time.
hi chaps.. sorry to take the thread slightly off subject.. but ive got a few good cyber security people i work with who have been put at risk.. Cambridge and Birmingham based.
having read some of the comments from @Leroy Ambrose and @ValleyGary. I wondered if you might have any opportunities. cheers

Not at the moment, unfortunately. We're heading towards a funding round, and belt-tightening means I'm/we're not hiring until at least the middle of next year 😔
IT job market as a whole is poor right now. Lots of people out of work and companies tightening their belts. Best thing seems to be through contacts/networking seems to be the best way at the moment
Probably a bit but the AI I've seen is more of a useful help tool than one who could replace a full time staff member.
From what I've seen though offshoring to India seems to be the preferred method currently rather than hire in country. Add on interest rates have been high, taxes on business plus no doubt IT budgets have been slashed due to Cloud costs and subscriptions rising year on year

AI is, in fact, having an enormous impact on the IT industry, particularly in software development. Most places that would have taken on graduates, for instance, have either cut back drastically or completely cut their grad intake for the year. I work for one if the largest independent software vendors in Europe and we are taking a slightly different approach - embedding AI in the design and release process rather than using it as an opportunity to cut roles - but AI allows development houses to massively accelerate their release cycles. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that they'll use that as an opportunity to cut roles.
Don't make the mistake of thinking AI is a 'help tool'. As far as you can see it, that might be the case - but in the background, it's already replacing huge swathes of mostly entry and low level jobs.

Thanks for the info guys. Am lucky that it can't replace me.

No need to go to expense and effort of hackers

i guess this counts as an ethical hacker?
Guess what, we always used to!
Happy where I am, and vested here for at least the next 18 months, ta
