If Charlton fans had been let out before the spanners and had been in a local pub, there's a good chance a bunch of scum would've gone looking for any Charlton fans still in the vicinity. Don't really know what the answer is but the OB need to up their game next time.
They went to the ROD anyway. The answer is hold them in AND filter them to the station after
Funny how the cowards never went to The Oak after the game. They would’ve got a very unpleasant welcome.
They didn't go because it was a very circuitous route.
can you please point me to anywhere in that where it addresses the main thing that charlton fans are pissed off about - i.e that we are held back / re routed rather than them? - the nearest u get is asking if its new policy - absolutely pathetic - u should be making it abundantly clear that we are furious that this has happened again and there is no way we are putting up with it next season - talk about missing the point - absolute failure -and i respect people who give up their time for good causes etc etc but that gives me zero hope that cast will stop this happening again - u will roll over and have your bellies tickled and will allow the police to do the same to the club - a woeful attempt - i'm happy to help get the real point across if u need help
I look forward to you getting your big balls out and telling the police and club what for.
Honest to god…
i'd be happy to - do u not think that communication misses the main point? i.e why are we the only ground / fixture where this happens? where's the questioning, the request for explanation?
This bit?
Issues outside the stadium which we believe are matters for the police
No information as to why away fans were not held back – is it now
generally policy to clear the away fans quickly from the area? If so,
this should be clearly communicated
So presumably they're going to be asking the police those questions.
Where’s the bit about why we were effectively held back ? Told to walk the long way or encouraged to stay in the stadium - amounts to the same thing / the only fixture in the country this happens - kinda missed that key bit out didn’t you ?
That's implicit in the question about why Millwall weren't held back, and is one for the coppers.
It needs to ge an expressed question, not implicit - it’s fundamental the club understand why we are the only club in the country to suffer this imposition - as well as the police

Just to add that we are no longer the only club as it happened yesterday too

The spanners go to QPR on 18th Oct, will be interesting to see how the OB handles the after match procedures.
What happened to @Millwall fan who people seemed to like and assured us the scum would cause no trouble as it wasn’t the 70s or 80s or 90’s ..,.
You obviously were not at the games in 70’s and early 80’s. An incident like this would not have got a mention, as numerous others would have overshadow it.
I don’t want to dismiss what happened, it’s unacceptable and needs addressing. However, we are in danger of continuing to feed the “Big Hard Millwall” fever, that they so crave to be seen as. Look basically a bunch of wankers, got all billy big bollocks attacking families, old people and scarfers. It looks like most who came through the gate, stood around, not knowing what to do, now they got into the Charlton area. They are just bullies who pick on those they perceived to be weaker than them. Let’s not feed their ego, by going overboard.
More Bush Babies, than Bushwackers
This 100%. People on here are in danger of going a little overboard. I acknowledge that some people were inconvenienced by the poorly communicated police decision & there was a small scuffle in the south east corner but I personally don’t think the club should or need to make a big statement.
Let’s just beat the scummy f*ckers when we play them at the den in Jan.

‘a small scuffle’? It wasn’t a scuffle. A Charlton fan was attacked for no reason when he was exiting a stand housing Charlton fans by a Millwall fan who entered from another stand into an area where he had no right to be. I doubt the Charlton fan involved was able to shrug it off and go on his way.

The original YT clip showed even though the poster had blurred identities 5-6 Millwall kicking a Charlton fan who was lying on the staircase, the guy in glasses several steps up says "oh he's on is own, he's own his own" as he puts up his hands to try and pacify the situation. He is then punched by the Millwall fan coming up the stairs. I was there and it wasn't nice, I have a walking stick because my knee is knackered and I thought blimely these Millwall fans don't care who they hit .... so for those of us on the steps and around who were caught up in this it wasn't a mere scuffle at all. So lets not underplay or make light of it, in 31yrs of having a seat in ES this has never happened. I've been to some infamous Charlton away matches where there was widespread trouble like The Battle of The bridge, Bristol City away in FA Cup, Leeds play off final at Elland Rd 1987, which were on a different scale, but I'm sure i speak for Charlton fans...... we surely don't want to ever see away "fans" attacking Charlton fans in our home section at The Valley again, because of poor policing and stewarding.

They'll only get 1700 tickets there though so in theory it should be a lot easier to manage.
No point chatting about it , just ignore it and do what we normally do - the police can’t stop 20,000 people
This.
As Jim Morrusin said...."they've got the guns but we've got he numbers"
The OB wont be able to stop thousands of people walking up Floyd rd. What are the going to do....kettle us ?? Charge with horses ??
The reason why the OB are doing it this way is because they know 3k Millwall fans would cause merry hell but 20k Charlton fans will just comply.
I tried causing a scene at the Den last time we were there in 2019. No one bothered backing me up & just stood meekly in the rain whilst we were not allowed to go home.

The PSG fans have been given first access to Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles, whilst the Marseille fans have been shepherded toward the north of the city, through France, toward Calais, over the channel, up the a2, exit at the woolwich peninsula onto the woolwich road, where they can then make their way to Charlton station, get a train to London Bridge, northern line to Kings cross, short walk to st Pancras where they can board the Eurostar and begin their journey back to France, onto Marseille
That is poor. Redeeming fact, is this isn't going away as there is mention of a review and further feedback.
Needless provocation in the middle part; "we have received around 35 direct emails from supporters regarding the game, notably fewer than the number we received after our opening match of the season against Watford. "
Last bit, very disheartening and unassuring. Have they not heard of risk management and zero tolerance of harm to fans; it seems some self congratulation is preferred!
"Saturday’s fixture brought the largest attendance at our highest-risk match for over fifty years. In that context, and given the scale and intensity of the operation, it is encouraging any issues which did occur were isolated and dealt with swiftly. As with every game, there will be lessons that we learn as part of our review process."
Issues were not dealt with swiftly or effectively. I think this is bad comms to put it mildly. There is some joint responsibility with the police for the ineffective security within the stadium I suggest, and, in my opinion, CAST would do well to adjust their line of querying once cafc and the police have made their initial responses.
What a surprise. The response is borderline disgraceful.
Rough translation -
We had our biggest crowd v Millwall for 50 years and yet we had more complaints v Watford, so we don't really care. (We'll ignore the fact that those complaints were about queuing for beer as opposed to the possibility of people being crushed). Anyway, most of it's down to the police so speak to them.
I wonder if the person who replied would be so dismissive if he had been the person assaulted and kicked by a half a dozen thugs whilst on the ground (according to a poster on here).
Funny they refer us to email in to the fans@cafc.co.uk mailbox. I sent an email to that mailbox on 23rd August and haven't had a response back from them to the question I raised.
Lessons learned blah blah, that response is all hot air.
And comparing the number of emails received being less than the Watford game really? The two games are not comparable given all the emails they would have received about catering after the Watford game that comment is irrelevant.
These fan emails, I bet the majority after the Watford game were about the shambolic service in various refreshment points etc so it’s disingenuous to even raise this point.
when you don't ask the right questions, you allow bland generic bollox like that to be the answer - 'take it up with the police, we're not telling you the reason why we rolled over and allowed our home fans to be fucked over again at the expense of millwall fans and you never asked us that anyway so why would we offer that information up' - cast, your useless.
still missing the point - i give up - why is it only this fixture? why does this happen at no other ground? that is the point - millwall play all over the country so why is it only us that are inconvenienced? and i don't care if it did or didn't happen at palace last night - it shouldn't happen anywhere

You’re massively contradicting yourself there, it does happen at other grounds as we’ve now seen. It also doesn’t take a genius to work out that a south London derby is going to be more fiery than them playing Stoke. I’m not saying I agree with it but it doesn’t take much to work out why it has a different approach than other games. They have to treat it differently to any other fixture, they just chose the wrong method

wrong - what other local derby sees the home fans held in?

The clubs response might as well be shorter to say the following.
Outside the ground nowt to do with us, talk to the Met. Inside was a great success with fewer complaints than against Watford
I’m not surprised that no one from the board or senior management wants to put their name to it.
