  • Also it irrationally annoys me (a lot more than it should for a grown man) when we kick towards the Covered End in the first half
I assumed they won the toss and choose to switch ends?
But surely the away team would want to be shooting toward their own fans in the second half as well?

It's Millwall. They would do it just to be arseholes.

But there's more of us than there are of them, so we're louder when we get going.
  • TC, Carey and Kelman all very good.
Cov, Doc, Jones and Bell all good.
Ramsay brain fade but he has loads of brownie points.

if Millwall are the standard for a decent upper mid table championship side, then we will be an upper mid table championship side. We were better than them in all departments for 80 minutes. Harsh lessons learned today but we’ll be fine this year

We were supposedly the better team against Bristol City. Only 1 point. We were supposedly the better ream against Leicester. No points.

We could be the better team for the rest of the season but still get relegated. We need to improve our crossing & dead ball situations. We cant keep saying we were the better team and not win.

Some really petulant posts on here.
Considering where we’ve been over the last few years, I’m pretty delighted with where we are.
And you can say what you want about mistakes…but I love this team. They give a shit. Keep backing them and we’ll be ok.

    Agree with both.

  • Was there any trouble?   Before, during or after?

Assuming (and hope) not, but wasn't there.
    Yes

Not really a fair representation of them with so many injuries.

I admire your confidence, but there's no way we are an upper mid table championship side. Not based on today, or our previous games.
Agreed.  But we need to come 20th to achieve our aim this season and currently on track.
2 points in the last 4 games though.

Started the season strong but now struggling to get results from games that are very winnable.
We went 6 points from 9 games from September to November last season and finished 4th. Still plenty of time yet and there’s positive signs. No need to panic.
Only difference is we had scored more goals this time last season... Two minor bonuses I'd take from games so far is

    (1) QPR aside we've conceded very little and think only six (?) teams already have a better defence than us... We will need to keep that up, until we start finding the goal - The worrying factor is we can only concede another 10-goals all season to beat Burnley's tally last year ;)

    (2) We've not really lost a game we could ill afford, Leicester are down from the Premier League, and QPR was away.

You can already see from our H / A performances, that we'll aim for more of a smash and grab on the road, and would have been our approach at Loftus Road, had we managed to settle, and not concede the early goal.

On the other hand its our Home Form over the last twelve months that I see keeping us up, given how we're playing at the Valley at the moment... I mean take Luton last season for example, they went down losing 7-games at home, whilst they won just four away

Different level I know, but how many games at the Valley have we lost under Jones? - Three, or is it four?

Totally gutted that Charlton's 'Golden Boy' screwed up.
The boost, the win would've given the Cafc fan base would've been off the scale.

Perhaps Ramsay's punishment can be CAFC fans can stop telling him he is a premiership player because he committed the greatest sin going by allowing Millwall back into a match that they had been second best up to that point.

Ramsay has been brilliant for CAFC but Kayne Royally fucked up in the only real SE London derby.

WHY DID JONES NOT SUB RAMSAY?
When I saw Bree getting ready to come on, my mate turned and said who is going off? My reply was it must be Ramsay as he’s gonna get a second yellow the way he is going on, to my surprise it wasn’t! Bad call not making that sub and also taking Apter off. Regardless it was a dominant performance but we walk away with a point instead of three.

So I didn’t imagine Leaburn just casually trotting over to the Millwall player. I’m not asking that he wins the ball, but the slightest bit of pressure and urgency can be enough to effect that pass.
  • Yep, a real sickener yesterday. A gut punch when they equalised but, let’s face it, I think a lot of us could see it. 20 minutes left and you’re down to 10 men and this is Millwall! What did we expect!
But, for me, there are bright spots. There’s no way they would have equalised if we hadn’t gone down to 10 men. Apart from a few breakaways that generally fizzled out we were in control. Also, the additions of Bree and Burke in defence looked solid.
But, it’s obvious to me where the weak link is after the recent transfer window. No real creative central midfielder has been added. So really we’re still left with Coventry and Docherty who I think are both ok squad players but not really what we need as starters. NJ will probably work his way around that problem but I do think that’s a bit of a weakness. Once we get Godden back I think that’ll be the only area that hasn’t really been addressed. Not yet anyway.
  • Yeh I don’t know if it’s that Coventry and Docherty aren’t good enough, or if they’re just too similar. We’re never going to have a ‘creative’ central midfielder under Jones. It’s not the way he sets up. Knibbs would be the closest we have to that.

Yes, Millwall always win the toss. They have a huge numerical advantage.

........struggling for a pun on switching ends though

Kaminski - I think he will be disappointed with their goal. Rule number one when shot stopping is try and divert the ball out of the danger zone which he didn't do.

    Ramsay -

A silly second yellow but he has ample of credit in the bank. Thought he was having a great game before the red card

Jones - Solid as ever. Didn't get much joy in their box due to Copper also being an absolute unit

Bell - Classy player but does un-nerve me at times. Great addition to the team

Edwards - Always a 7/10 for us and thats exactly what we need

Coventry - Worked hard but I wouldn't say it was his best performance

Docherty - A real captains performance. More consistent performances like this please

Apter - Probably his weakest game for us? Seems slow to turn in on his left.

Carey - Great finish and energetic performance. We need goals from our attacking midfielders

TC - Excellent performance after a busy international break. Carried the ball forward well

Kelman - Had a real tussle with their back three in the first half and stood up to the test. Poor fella just needs a goal

    Subs

Bree - Looks like he will be an excellent addition

Leaburn - I would of brought on Tonto when we went down to 10 which would of been harsh on Leaburn but I just feel he would of been a better outlet into the channels.

    Burke - N/A

Keeper gotta push that first strike out wider rather than pat it out into the centre. But yeah, whatever, we’ll never beat them and we move on.

And anyone digging out Ramsay needs their fucking canister testing. Shit happens, the bloke is so in credit with his performances and desire over the last year or so, it’s mental it’s even being discussed.
  • Performance full of heart from Charlton. Great effort. We've got some great individuals talented players yet, to my eyes the masterplan going forward with the ball is one of a Sunday league team.
Jones is a great motivator, he's good at stopping the other team playing, now we need the other third of the job.
    Spot on!
  • Someone has already pointed out but new Jones teams very often take a while to gel. Look at last year when it finally all clicked in to place.

I have a mate who is a big Luton fan and he said their promotion season it took 3 months or so for it to all come together, and I think that considering we have 5 points and it still doesn’t look as knitted together as we know jones will want it to be, we have a lot to be positive about.

There are much worse teams in this league than us already, and I genuinely think there’s much more to come from us when jones finally gets it all to come together
Problem is that the team are actually putting in solid performances the team look really well drilled know their roles and are competing only issue we have at the moment is finding a way to get Kelman working, last season we looked a complete mess and no idea what the game plan was. Performance wise we haven’t started slow in the slightest I’m just concerned it comes down to the squad just may not being good enough for this level although you would expect our fortune in results to change
  • Another game where the players gave everything for the full 99 minutes. The frustrating thing is that having been the better team (again) we can’t get the points deserving of the performance.
We made wall look very ordinary yesterday and if we can keep that level of performance throughout the season we should be ok.
Lets hope the crowd stay behind the team and turn up in numbers for the less glamorous games where we probably have more chance of winning
  • Ramsay’s red cost us. Doc’s lack of awareness around the box, letting his man ghost past him led to the goal. Poor performance from Doc yet again.
  • Ramsay’s red cost us. Doc’s lack of awareness around the box, letting his man ghost past him led to the goal. Poor performance from Doc yet again.
Coventry completely abandons his man who then scored. I understand he was covering Doc’s mistake but he should have the awareness that he’s never getting there on time
  • Taken this from the player ratings thread - "COVENTRY: 6 overall a decent showing, but when their goal comes from a pass in that position, he's the guy who should be there.

I'm not sure Coventry can blamed here. There are 3 of ours around two of theirs, if anyone should be closer it's Doc. CC then can't just do nothing and has to come across to the immediate danger, which unfortunately leaves space for them after the parry.
