Anyone who thought this season would be nice and linear is off their heads, but there are enough positives to think we’ll be ok

Sigh.
So frustrating, when we were up against a misfiring Millwall side, who won't play that poorly very often. That red card was clearly the key moment, Kayne is a brilliant young player, but needs to sometimes make better decisions. He got away with things in L1 that you can't get away with in the Championship.
It's slightly concerning that in 5 games we've scored 3 goals, and none by our strikers. Our system isn't creating chances for them, and I'm not convinced Kelman suits how we play if we continue to play 1 main striker, supported by wide players. We played an Aerial game for 60 minutes, with a striker who likes it on the deck. Cooper knew that he only had to deal with Jones at set pieces.12 -

Millwall left winger gave Ramsay a fair bit of trouble. Won't do him any harm in the long run but it cost us today.2

Garrymanilow said:One big positive is that James Bree looked really excellent. Strong defensively and spent a surprising amount of time in their box. Apter will have to start delivering on a regular basis if he's going to keep him out, good competition to have
If Bree was asked to play in Apter’s role he’d find it tough in the final third.3 -
Where is sniffer dog?, is he out for a long while? Need him up front ASAP.1

I thought he worked really hard to close down and compete from the moment he came on. I was pleasantly surprised. I'd start him in the next game.My point being I think we’ll be ok0 -

We don’t create enough clear cut chances, yes we were the better team, but you can’t say that the Millwall keeper was particularly overworked.Idiotic from Ramsey and don’t understand going to a back 4 after the red card. Just bring Burke on and stay with 3 at the back.0

Small things win games. Or in this case, wins them a point.4 -

He controlled that ball as though it was stuck to his foot in one of the forward forays after he came onto the pitch. Don't see that too often from our strikers...
He's coming on after 60 mins, has to hit the ground "running" & aim to keep the giant Cooper occupied & IMO he did the job pretty well.
No way does he deserve the narky comments a few Lifers have made tonight.21 -

That's the only question that needs asking today.
If he hadn't of put in such a rash second challenge we would have won.
We've largely dominated most of the game except for the period when we were down to 10 men. And therefore its so frustrating not to beat such a woeful Millwall team. We won't get a better chance to beat them. That said, I was more than happy to hear the final whistle as it would have been unbearable if we had lost.
One final point. I'm really not impressed by Kaminski and I've no idea why we spent (supposedly) £800k on him. Five games and he hasn't come for a single cross. If Maynard-Brewer had been in goal today and let that goal in, this board would be on fire with people moaning about him simply pushing the first shot straight out. Mannion should have been given a chance to play and the fact he is not on the subs bench makes me wonder if he has had a bust-up with Jones behind the scenes.0 -

Cov, Doc, Jones and Bell all good.Ramsay brain fade but he has loads of brownie points.
if Millwall are the standard for a decent upper mid table championship side, then we will be an upper mid table championship side. We were better than them in all departments for 80 minutes. Harsh lessons learned today but we’ll be fine this year
We could be the better team for the rest of the season but still get relegated. We need to improve our crossing & dead ball situations. We cant keep saying we were the better team and not win.5 -
An enjoyable game, up until Ramsay's sending off. My concern is that when you go down to 10 men, most managers bring on more defenders, and that causes the midfield to drop deeper, so you end up with a back 5, and 3 midfielders standing a couple of meters in front of them. That conceeds a massive space in midfield that allows the opposition a momentum of playing in front of this deep lying defensive set up. My solution to this is to keep the defense the same, but bring in more midfielders to block off the supply.
The defense and midfield also play very narrow, trying to overload the defensive areas. It rarely works, because giving up the midfield and pressure from the wide areas will create chances.
Pack the midfield and keep the defense the same.1 -
Why does one player always, without fail lose their head against Millsmall?1

NJ always starts slow. It is how he works. It takes time but from what I have seen so far we are in a good place. Carey is adding goals , and that was a fantastic strike, plus to think that we are posing huge questions to teams that think the are more established than us tells a story in itself. The team will evolve, but it was great to see The Valley packed out and rocking , sounding amazing on the stream.9

Today is not probably a fair reflection as he spent the last 20 mins up front on his own with no other Charlton player within 10 yards of him.
But I stick to what I've said over the last couple of years. For his height he is not very good in the air...certainly not against a central defender. He is skilful on the floor for a tall player but he'll never be a "striker" who will score more than a dozen goals a season.2 -
Forget the match. We played OK, Carey mom and played really well, on to the next one.
Some music to ease the pain.

Some really petulant posts on here.
Considering where we’ve been over the last few years, I’m pretty delighted with where we are.
And you can say what you want about mistakes…but I love this team. They give a shit. Keep backing them and we’ll be ok.

Just glad he saw the handball(s) and we aren't here lamenting a 2-1 loss18 -

But I've realised that after every game someone says the ref was shit - win or lose. It is what it is I guess.7 -
Performance full of heart from Charlton. Great effort. We've got some great individuals talented players yet, to my eyes the masterplan going forward with the ball is one of a Sunday league team.
Jones is a great motivator, he's good at stopping the other team playing, now we need the other third of the job.
