Good question.guinnessaddick said:
So, why is it, that Greenwich police think this is the way to handle the situation, when every other police force don't?southamptonaddick said:
Obviously I wasn't in the safety meeting and I'm guessing you weren't either.guinnessaddick said:
Because they have allowed this decision to be made. There isn't another club in the country that would allow this to happen to their home fans. This will be the second time that it's happened to us and you can bet your bottom dollar it won't be the last. Grow some fucking balls and keep them in, the club could always lose the keys to the gates.southamptonaddick said:Why are some people blaming the club.
We've been told it's a police decision and they have the final say.
It seems some so called Charlton "fans" just can't wait to have a dig.
Nobody is happy about it but if the police decide that's what is going to happen the club can do fuck all about it.
So, and I'm making a wild assumption, despite any protests the club may have made, they were told what was going to happen and that was that.
If any other club in the country are given instructions on how the crowd will be controlled outside of the ground then they would have to comply.
The police will always have the final say.
Perhaps you should ask them.0 -
I’d like to, but they turned off the replies on their post on X when making the announcement.southamptonaddick said:

All jokes aside, there’s people on here who have called it, the vast majority of away fans there will be season ticket holders who have the required number of loyalty points. I’m not saying there won’t be trouble, some isolated incidents, but grounds getting smashed up? Calm down my dear, it ain’t gonna happen 😆AllHailTheHen said:
Yeah but for Millwall fans it's still 1976 so you can understand our concern.MillwallFan said:

So all other home fans in the Championship have to do this when Millwall visit ? Don't recall seeing it in the media over the past few years that Millwall fans have smashed up stadiums.Henry Irving said:Spoke to one of the directors about this who said that it was out of the club's hands and a police decision they weren't happy about.
Police rationale was if the Spanners were kept in they'd smash the place up and/or fight the old bill.

We'd never have guessed mate

Easy to criticise, but there was a lot of colouring in required.

On a practical level I wonder for how long they will actually limit the access / enforce the diversion?
Presumably it’s more linked to how quickly the platforms clear and hence it won’t just be a 20 minute thing.

exactly this - can't think of another example anywhere, where basically home fans are kept in/inconvenienced in order that the away fans can do as they please?guinnessaddick said:

something like this'll happen every time we play them now3 -
In 2019 Charlton fans smashed up the toilets at Gillingham. If that happened only 6 years ago (and lawlessness has only got worse post COVID) I guarantee you there will be breakages by Millwall at our ground tomorrow.MillwallFan said:

A precedent has been set. Well, it was set a few games ago but last time we played them at home it was during lockdown and no-one could attend.Elthamaddick said:

Be prepared for this to be the norm. Mainly because we are too soft to do anything about it. Look at all the OAP's that have been getting themselves arrested recently.0 -
£10 from me if there is 👍🏻BalladMan said:

Lol.
Things fans put up with.
Good luck to those going, thankfully I'm not.2 -

I mentioned this on another thread, but I’d really like the Club to make strong representations to the police about the use of South Bermondsey station after the away game.Let us all out at the same time, make the station Charlton only (using that beautifully landscaped walkway to the platform) and force Millwall fans to walk to New Cross/New Cross Gate/London Bridge if they want a train.Seems comparable to the shite we have to put up with from the OB when it’s at our place 🤷🏻♂️19
-
I'm sure I read somewhere that a new Overground train station has been approved to be built right next to the ground so this would make even more sense if it happens and gave Millwall the new station while we get South Bermondsey.TelMc32 said:I mentioned this on another thread, but I’d really like the Club to make strong representations to the police about the use of South Bermondsey station after the away game.Let us all out at the same time, make the station Charlton only (using that beautifully landscaped walkway to the platform) and force Millwall fans to walk to New Cross/New Cross Gate/London Bridge if they want a train.Seems comparable to the shite we have to put up with from the OB when it’s at our place 🤷🏻♂️0 -
Not slated to start development until next year. God knows when it would be ready.MartinCAFC said:

If this is going to be the norm maybe we should make it home fans only and leave the JS stand empty.4

Why is the Millwall game always so bloody awful. No answer required0
-
They're playing at Crystal Palace midweek and it won't be home fans mistreated. I doubt the Nigels were inconvenienced for their FA Cup tie this year either. Millwall fans' behaviour will be similar at both grounds, good or bad.
I'd like to know what the difference is. Logistics..? I don't think the shuffle to Norwood Junction is much different than to Charlton station.7 -
It isn't so much damage to the ground that concerns me but damage to persons.
'Isolated incidents' might happen it has been suggested, well nobody should initiate an 'isolated' incident from any quarter.
However for some reason the authorities particularly want to keep the fans separated but didn't see fit to separate Charlton fans from Leicester fans or Watford fans, but this game is seen as different, one has to ask why, or why do it if the Millwall support is only season ticket holders and members, all pussycats.1 -
Agreed. You would hope there is some ‘intelligence’ behind the decision to inconvenience 20k+ people to waste 15 minutes walking in the wrong direction.jose said:It isn't so much damage to the ground that concerns me but damage to persons.

This isn’t the club’s fault. Mick is pretty good at managing the police, but in the end they decide and especially outside the ground. I also understand that the club doesn’t want to “own” the story, but it is pitiful that it left it to the police to tweet it and as ever no one at the club will put their name to its position. That’s what you get paid for, guys.16

Surely it will be longer than 15 mins. The time to shuffle the long way round and then wait for the platforms to clear (dictated by the train timetable) must be a lot longer than that I would imagine.BalladMan said:

"The Club has been in regular contact with the MPS, who have now taken the decision to impose the post-match restrictions on the grounds of ........ [What? Fan safety? Public order? They must know.] Unfortunately the Club ultimately has no jurisdiction in such matters, but we would like to apologise to our fans for the short notice and for any inconvenience these changes may cause. It's not difficult.8 -
Exactly when was this decision made ?0
-
No point chatting about it , just ignore it and do what we normally do - the police can’t stop 20,000 people1
-
Seems to me the police have chose the easy out option of policing the Charlton fans rather the Millwall ones. Expect rows of them blocking the road by the club shop after and no doubt intimidation / provocation/ hassle that just didn’t need to be there.9
-
At the end of the day what should be happening is away fans are kept back for however long til home fans have gone, this happens up and down the country every week and should be no different here!!!
if anyone at the club is bothered they should be holding the old bill to account, it’s a piss take!7 -

And I said it earlier.
Cuts have consequences.
It’s only going to get worse as the horses are being cut next.
I’m so glad I am now a goat farmer.

sp this only exists after the game? prior to the game, the same two groups of people can happily mingle?
and what about any millwall who don't want to go into the station, of witch there will likely be quite a few ? they will be wondering around among us? doesn't feel very well thought out1 -
And what did he say when you pointed out that every other club keeps the Spanners and all other away fans in after games, and they dont smash the place up or fight the old bill?Henry Irving said:Spoke to one of the directors about this who said that it was out of the club's hands and a police decision they weren't happy about.
