I do think policing of football fans in general is getting more heavy handed. Cardiff v Swansea used to be the only bubble game but now we have the south coast derby too, police in general seem to be more happy to intervene in things now too. Not the individual officers fault of course but do think maybe they've been given some different instructions
All Pompey fans are being bused in and out for the game at Saints this weekend. I'm surprised the Met didn't demand all Charlton fans had to be shuttled in from Dartford or something. Jeez.
You laugh but that’s exactly what used to happen when Cardiff played at the Den. You didn’t get a ticket if you didn’t go on the coach. In and out no bother.
It literally is just down to the numbers of old bill to go around. Doesn't make it right, if I were still in Blighty with my old hat on I’d be working watching SYL & his goons anyway so would miss the game.
It’s bollix and it’s because we are deemed nicer than them so they can treat us like shit. It has been ever thus 🙄😡
So being nice doesn't pay off....but being anti-social does. What sort of message does that give out.
How is it possible that the club and supporter reps have allowed the police to impose this without so much as a whimper?
And my brother wondered why I was so insistent on taking the bus from Blackheath ( where I’m staying) to Charlton Village and especially back that way.
Saw this coming all the way from Prague. Didn’t you, @castrust? And what about the invisible Fan Advisory Board with its supposed no-nonsense members we voted in?
I sometimes think that when we become “football fans” we somehow surrender our right to remind the police that they serve us, and we pay their sodding wages.
That's a massive assumption. How do you know the club etc. didn't push back?
Its an assumption, but hardly massive, because we’ve been here before, and on one of those occasions I used FOI to get the minutes of the meetings running up to what was widely considered to have been a fiasco. But people have obviously forgotten. And sleep-walked into another fiasco.

Because they would have been told, if you don’t like it you’ll have to restrict ticket sales as in no away support.
Used to use the mounted to divide the roads so both sets could use. I’m guessing the mounted are all up town dealing with the weekly nonsense by the great unwashed. Blame them not the old bill, only so many of them to police all the football/protests that is happening in the capital on Saturday.
Why not lock Millwall in, and once the area is cleared let them out, like what would happen at the other 91 grounds for this sort of game?
Because the club probably don’t want to have to replace £’s of stuff that will inevitably be trashed is my guess.
So it's a club decision?
It would have been a joint decision. There would have been multiple meetings to discuss these issues once they requested the old bill for this category match and got told, sorry but we’ve only got so many to go around.
So what is going on up town that warrants less OB. Is it arresting hundreds of 70 year olds for sitting peacefully on the ground with a placard. 🤔🤷♂️

Too little to go around. Because we have a right to protest in the UK and unfortunately some folk can’t do it peacefully they have to be policed. Then add to that whoever in the football authorities decide when matches go ahead without a thought of the consequences you have a recipe for pissing law abiding citizens off, royally.

Regardless on whether it was a joint decision, the club are in the wrong for excepting it. The only club in the country to keep home fans in and now this. Grow some fucking balls and keep them in. You have to wonder why some many times the team doesn’t show up when we play them and the club does this sort of thing.

What an ignorant comment.
It really isn’t because I spent 10yrs dealing with protesters on alll sides so I think I’m pretty up to date on my protestors tbh.
Pleased your mates are arresting OAP's for sitting peacefully are you ?

Fair enough. I just have a pet peeve for misdirected anger. As far as we know at this point this is on the police and to assume that the restrictions were unopposed seems unfair to me. The club is very different to what it was during previous occasions

Well one difference is we no longer have Mick Everitt, who was the club official with the most backbone in such matters.

Not taking any notice of AFKA then Golfie as per? Doubt if anyone is pleased tbh.
A dispersal order will be in place for the area shown on the map above from 09:00hrs until 23:59hrs tomorrow to provide officers with additional powers to deal with crime and antisocial behaviour.
Anyone engaged in such activity can be directed to leave the area or face arrest. https://x.com/MPSGreenwich/status/1966423063370633233

As they say, talk is cheap. Actions speak louder. The club has shown that it will cave in yet again.

Pretty sure they never replaced him and we do still have him despite the announcement of his retirement

They can trash the big screen if they want, seeing that we're about to replace it.
Prague has made a good point about Mick not being there anymore. But I’d wager (as like the lock in last time) he would have had his objections noted in the minutes and they would have just done what in their eyes is easier.
I’ve always hated the way football fans are policed which is why I tried to change it as much as I could at Millwall when I was there. But there are a lot of stakeholders who decide these things and someone always has to compromise.
If the players can't get up for tomorrow with 20k cafc fans behind them then it's a question of bottle or ability....not rerouted exit routes.
It's annoying, muggy from the club but it is what it is.
Makes sense to get millwall out and away from the area and a tiny train station with plenty of potential flash points on a day the police are stretched with loads of London derbies and non football stuff.
Annoying and inconvenient and spineless from the club but that's the reality.
They've taken a pragmatic view even if it's not fair and not right.
They've not done it to mug off charlton fans.
Let's get some perspective...it makes fuck all difference to the outcome of the game.

Except Mick is still there. The rest of your post I completely agree with
The least our club can do is the give all Addicks a free drink in Crossbars after the match when they're being delayed in getting to their cars/station etc etc.

I am now trying to think of a way round this. There has to be.
As I said.....time for placards & flags.

Simples.
