Old Football Results Page 4th December 1982

Just saw this in my news feed.

Interesting results and scorers all over the page.

Who saw him score that day? Sad that such few numbers were there for a win against the Toon.

  • Terrible attendances. Look at Chelsea and Leeds especially. Taking that into account 10k wasn’t that bad

It was the height of football hooliganism’s and football was a dirty word . Fans were treated like crap wherever we went .
  • I was there, cracking goal. Was supposed to be a showdown between Simmo and Keegan but Keegan was unable to play due to injury.
  • Was there. A crowd of 10k was considered good at the time.
  • Only 7 of those teams in the Championship now.
  • Only 7 of those teams in the Championship now.

Only 5 of those teams have never been in the Premier League.

Cambridge, Carlisle, Rotherham, Shrewsbury and Grimsby, I would guess.
  • Some proper old school blokes names there.

Alan, Roger, Don, Malcolm, Brian, Clive and Bob.

  • I was there and went straight over to Wembly Arena afterwards to see the Jam in their farewell tour supported by Big Country.
  • I was there. It was a decent crowd by the standards of the time and there was quite a buzz because Keegan was also expected to play.
To show that some things never change, I missed Simonsen’s goal because I was still in the queue for a hotdog.

I was there at the game and then the Jam at Wembley, also went to the 1st night at Wembley as well. Bitter sweet really as the gig on Saturday was the last time I saw the band.

Apart from local aways, this was a very lean time for me actually watching Charlton live, I just could not afford trips to London back then.

Shortly before the Newcastle match, I had been given a company van and as I was not working, decided to use it and drive to London for this game even though the van not for personal use. I got on the motorway at Knutsford and before I reached Sandbach, the timing belt went.

I never did get to that game and with no breakdown membership, getting towed back home off the motorway cost me a small fortune.
  • That Kevin Drinkell seemed a decent footballer
  • Yep, was there, and that was a very decent crowd, stoked as you say by the supposed Simonsen Keegan showdown.
