  • BBC radio commentators absolutely purring about the performance in Serbia tonight.
  • Cape Verde on the verge of World Cup qualification after beating Cameroon 1-0 tonight.

That would be a third qualifier who have never been to a World Cup before. They have two games in October to get the three points they need to be sure, and one of the games is at home to the last-placed team in their group.

England currently hold the biggest points lead (7) of any European team in qualifying.

A win in Latvia next month guarantees at least a playoff berth. Follow that up with a draw or better against Serbia at Wembley in November and we’ll be in the draw in December.

Helps we've played loads of games, some have only played 2 I think?

I really don't think anyone ever doubted this.

In Cape Verde's instance it's due to them being good rather than due to the expansion.
  • No new qualifier yesterday, but we got the second of the six countries that go into the intercontinental playoffs - Bolivia are the South American representative, joining New Caledonia. I suspect whoever wins the African and North American playoffs to qualify for the intercontinental games will be pretty relaxed about playing either of those two.

Bolivia got there by beating Brazil, which isn't the same sort of achievement it once was. Plus it was at home, at altitude and with Brazil already qualified so not caring. But a win's a win and into the hat they go.

They needed the win as they went into the last game, one point (and a worse Goal Difference) behind Venezuela, who are the one team from South America never to make the World Cup, and lost 3-6 at home to Colombia, who had also qualified already.

Bolivia aiming to qualify for the first time since 1994... the last time it was in the United States ironically.
