I’d see it as a good signing particularly as he’s already familiar with the club now and pre season for any newbies can’t be many weeks away. Better early signings than late if possible.
Agree with the above - hasn't done enough to warrant a Championship contract. He gave the ball away a lot in the final, and i'm sure NJ would have played Berry if he had been fit.

I wouldn't say it was a last minute loan when we had clearly been chasing him for the whole window. Agree with others that I think he will be on the Middlesborough bench or back on loan in league 1 next season. Not sure Boro would want to send him back to us when he really didn't play enough to develop while he was here
I'm on the fence with this one. I wouldn't be unhappy if he came back next season, but I wouldn't be outraged if he didn't. It entirely depends on what other players we keep and what new signings we make
Gilbert looks to play the forward pass and doesn't rely on just keeping it safe. I see a lot of potential and he's still only played about career 50 games.
From his own point of view, he needs a full season games, so maybe a season in League One would benefit him most. Orient would seem a very good fit for him.
This is the thing. It's not just passing. A CAM needs to help the team by SCORING GOALS! It takes pressure off the strikers if the goals come from more sources. People seem to have forgotten that Berry scored as many goals as TC.
Watch how they play. Berry is always pushing forward, almost like a withdrawn striker. Wins tackles high up the pitch to keep the pressure on. Gilbert plays more like a quarter back. Fine as it stands. But one shot, just wide, against Wycombe? Not enough.
And Berry is 33. Gilbert is 24. Yes, they both run out of gas, but Gilbert really has no excuse.

I think there’s a good chance he won’t even be registered to play due to squad size limits, shame for his career but I’m guessing they couldn’t find any takers

I would say so, at the least as an option to offer something different (creativity from the midfield) off the bench. Knibbs, Carey and Berry all seem to be similar types, industrious and capable of coming up with goals but not what you'd call creative.

A decent set piece taker would do wonders for our goal threat, as we had so many set pieces on Saturday, which we wasted.
Of course you can't carry someone whose only role is taking set pieces, but decent delivery isn't to be sniffed at.
Most of Bree's highlights are of crosses and set pieces, Gilbert only really had that in his locker and even then it was patchy, Orient away was the exception rather than the norm

2 of those set pieces would have been caught by a proper goalkeeper .
