MATCH PREVIEW: Queens Park Rangers vs Charlton Athletic - Saturday 30th August 2025 - 12:30pm KO

0-1 Jones Masterclass
We will score on 22 minutes and be better side for much of the game.

It feels like the first of perhaps many crucial games. A win would make it a good start to the season and defeat means we go into the game against our next door neighbours looking iffy. A draw may be the outcome but it would be so good to bring three points back home across London.2

Do yellow card suspensions carry over into the Premier League?
No. Amid the ever-changing maelstrom of rules and regulations, the powers that be at England's Football Association tweaked the laws regarding yellow card suspensions four years ago.
As outlined in the FA's essential handbook for players: "Accumulated yellow cards in cup competitions are treated separately and can result in an automatic ban from the cup competition in which the yellow cards were received."
Therefore, a yellow-card-induced suspension in the Carabao Cup does not carry over to the Premier League - or any other domestic competition. Of course, the reverse is also true. If one of the Carabao Cup semi-finalists racks up a ban-worthy tally of ten Premier League yellow cards, they would still be able to play in the cup.
What about red cards?
Unlike their more lenient and light-hearted cousins, red cards transcend England's domestic competitions. If a player were to receive a ban for a red card shown in a Carabao Cup clash, they would miss their team's next game, whatever domestic competition that may be - including thePremier League.

We need to jump on the fragility last week's defeat will have had on QPR. They are at home and will probably start brightly and it is important we wear that start down.1
-
Going for a win…what else!
I reckon we could get this 0-2, with a stout defensive line and hopefully some on target chances, not bothered who scores, but feel it’s Kelman time…✅Also, no reason for us not to be wearing RED!!
So COYR get yer arses in gear ffs1 -
Carry-on as we have been in the League. Make it hard for QPR and keep it 0-0. Another late winner would be nice. Will be happy with a draw. UTA3

Anyone who watched Charlton Live knows their fans are not confident at this current stage of the season. Their fan was speaking about QPR's lack of fitness and a non existent midfield. If they can't battle with us and their fitness isn't up to par, then we could batter them again, as we all know that Jones's team are based on a physicality combined with relentless fitness (let's just forget Cambridge
).

You’d think Jones has them fired up for this one after midweek. Not that the Cambridge defeat was the fault of the11 who’ll start at QPR.A win would be huge. COYRs.3

Here's hoping we can make a similar noise to what we did at Bristol 😁🫡0

Interesting this week, still plenty who don't see what Campbell offers but quieter shouts for Tanto to come in after his anonymous showing against Cambridge. I think one thing people don't see is how effective he is an an outball to allow our defence to get back into shape. We focus more of our play down the left than the right and Campbell always shows for the ball, draws players to him and runs, which allows us to get settled at the back again. We pretty much never get countered effectively if Campbell loses the ball because we're back set the way we need to be already. I think Campbell will continue to start because he offers us attacking threat as well as being a part of our solidity. I don't know if Tanto will offer that, he needs to pull wider and be available to receive a pass from Edwards or Bell constantly if he wants to get a run in the first team, maybe he will.21

Our Ex-players always seem to score against us so does it work the other way with Kelman ? Surely he must start in that case.
Either way I cant see us winning this one. They will be so fired up & once we concede it will be same old same old.

Docherty was doing the same but cut them out vs Leicester so received more praise for his defensive work.
There’s then the strange idea that TC is lazy, which I think is more about a lack of confidence at times or not making the run off the ball that maybe he should. Maybe an expectation that he should track back like Apter, but we know he becomes a striker when we defend so isn’t supposed to.
There’s also the accusation about a lack of end product, but some have unrealistic expectations of players like TC. He’s not there to score 15+ but he can still get a decent return of goals and assists without getting them in every game.
I think for now he keeps his place, but that could change if Tanto starts making more impact from the bench than TC does when starting games.5 -

He is there to hassle and score goals, and effectively get doubled up on to create chances and space elsewhere. He isn't a chance creator himself, which is part of the problem really.0 -

I'm sure there's a stat man here who can correct me, but I think his expected assists was much higher than 1, suggesting we missed a lot of the chances he created.7 -
We pile pressure on QPR but questions remain on how much shooting practise we are doing…? 2-1 to the Addicks - Kelman to break his duck against former club.3

I like to use the word facilitator for players like TC, he isn’t the creator who gets the assist but he helps others to do so with his movement or getting a pre-assist or winning a corner6 -

Sometimes a season plays out that way. I think it was Gudmundsson who scored plenty and rarely assisted in his first season, and then did the reverse in his second season.
I agree generally on his role, he’s a support striker/winger, there to press, create space for others and score/assist when he can without pressure to do it regularly. The main striker is there to hold up the ball and win headers, press and be our primary goal threat.2 -

Perhaps assists being granted for winning penalties and free-kicks? I know officially they're not given as assists but could be considered so.0 -
