Why is it so heavily manned 'at the door' this season at the times that you can see it's 30% full?

At the Watford game, after showing my ticket, I received the words "Yeah, you're allowed in". WTF....it's a fan zone, not a Speakeasy bar in Tokyo.

I did feel rough the next day after just 3 pints so something tells me the pipes/delivery may not have been the cleanest, or perhaps in the process of being cleaned. The quality of drink seems best in Bartrams.

The entry checking of tickets is quite heavy handed this season and I’m not sure why. Can understand for Millwall, Birmingham, maybe a couple of others, but certainly not for a midweek match v Stevenage. Last season I know a few Huddersfield fans snuck in for example and didn’t see any harm in that (unless it reaches max capacity of course).

The Premises Licence shall be subject to the following conditions:

    1. There shall be no sale or supply of alcohol for consumption off the premises.
    2. Amplified music is only permitted to be played from 2 hours before kick-off for home matches to one hour after the end of the match or 9pm whichever is the earlier.
    3. The premises shall only be used for Charlton Athletic FC first team home matches(men and women).
    4. The premises shall only be used for Charlton AFC fans and supporters and no away team fans shall be permitted into the premises.
All staff involved in the sale or supply of alcohol shall be trained, as part of their induction, in the responsible sale of alcohol. Such training shall include challenging every individual who appears to staff to be under 25 years of age and to refuse service where individuals cannot produce acceptable means of ID and using the Refusals Log. Such training (including any refresher training) will be recorded in the Training Log.
13   All entry and exit points will be covered enabling front identification of every person entering in any light condition. The CCTV system shall be capable of obtaining clear facial recognition images and a clear head and shoulders image of every person entering or leaving the premises.

Interesting reading this, i wonder how many of these conditions are being met by the club & Gather & Gather.

Well if responsible sale of alcohol means not serving people who are drunk I’d say we are likely to be fully compliant given most comments here suggest it’s a massive chore to secure only one drink let alone drink too much ! 😉😆

The premises licence is unenforceable on a technicality.

A couple of non alcoholic alternatives are the nice little cafe in Charlton Park, or buy a bottle of water in the Co - op in Charlton Village and then get a small portion of chips in the Charlton Village chip shop. If raining eat the chips under the sheltered bit at the back of the Co-op.
Alcohol in a hip flask if needed.

Do we know if it is the club or G&G who get to choose the outlets in the fan zone? I only tried going in there once which was enough for me but I’m curious

I read that the commute was too much of a pain in the arse. They have another huge venue opening soon too, as well as the ones already in Hitchin and Bedford.

Yeah they said it themselves, was just curious who actually picks what goes in there

Nice to see some effort is being done to improve things, but disappointed that there's no focus on the food side of the issue.
  • At least it feels like the club are listening to the fans. Long way to go but things moving in the right direction.

More 🍞 and fish on sell then
  • Be interested to know if the club are now being charged more for this by G&G.  Was the original contract for far too few resources?  Or have G&G just been taking the piss in trying to eke out every last penny?

With the jump in numbers attending, it’s good to see mention of additional kiosks opening. Would really help if one, or both, of the ones in the Upper Covered over towards the East Stand were brought back into use again.

Well done to Gavin Carter and the club.
I know Gavin is a supporter and does care as he was on the concourses himself investigating.
I saw Gavin with Paul Elliot up town in the pub after the Bristol C game.

If you're referring to the kiosk at the far end of the Covered Upper towards the Curbs stand which was closed all of last season, it was open for the Watford game. Surprisingly, was selling Pizzas out of it too.
