I know it isnt a Championship transfer but I just see that Andy Carroll has gone from Bordeaux to...Dagenham & Redbridge! I know he is 36 but thought he could do a job in L2 at least!1

He's invested in the club as well though, so think that has had some bearing on him joining Dagenham.king addick said:I know it isnt a Championship transfer but I just see that Andy Carroll has gone from Bordeaux to...Dagenham & Redbridge! I think they must have the same person in charge of recruitment who thought Ben Foster would be a good keeper for them.fenaddick said:
I think he's best keeper in the world and Wrexham definitely shouldn't drop himcrookester said:

I genuinely believe this is a problem for Wrexham, all clubs/fans to a certain extent believe in a "narrative" but Wrexham have actually monetised it and while it's made them money it cuts both ways to a certain extent.ThomasOliver3 said:
It's going to be hard to make them seem like the plucky underdogs again next season on the doc when they are throwing around £30m+
They want to try and portray themselves as underdogs making a rise against the odds and yet they just matched basically our entire outlay on ONE player.
Birmingham are buying success too of course but at least they've been fairly upfront about it and aren't trying to spin it as some rags to riches fairytale.0 -

Same! Seems like hes been retired for ages but only left liverpool 2 years ago!0 -
People seem to have bought it so far though, plucky little club from Wrexham competing with more established clubs etc.thenewbie said:

Never mind that they are outspending the more established clubs.
Last season was probably the first where it had a bit of merit with how much Birmingham were spending etc, but they still went out and spent £3m (plus signing-on fees, wages etc) on two extra strikers when they had an iffy January and lost ground on Wycombe.
It'll have a bit more truth to it this year with clubs having parachute payments etc and them having to play catch up to others, but I'd be interesting where they end up in the spending stakes compared to the rest of the league.0 -
I remember Parky saying that we and Wrexham would be targeting the same players, or words to that effect.
That seems really unlikely now, considering some of the fees they've spent. Indeed were they ever linked to the players we brought in?
And if not, why not? If they had targeted the likes of Carey and Apter, geography may have been on their side.3 -
There must be some players who don't want to be part of the circus.killerandflash said:I remember Parky saying that we and Wrexham would be targeting the same players, or words to that effect.

Think it was expectation management, as was him moaning about others spending when their transfers hadn’t really started yet. He might not be a fantastic manager by Championship standards but he is good at playing the mediakillerandflash said:I remember Parky saying that we and Wrexham would be targeting the same players, or words to that effect.

Surely they can't play the underdog nonsense anymore when they're spending £10m on Broadhead. It's always been rubbish all along.3

Yep, even last season they were the second biggest spenders and finished 2nd. So where's the underdog story?MarcusH26 said:Surely they can't play the underdog nonsense anymore when they're spending £10m on Broadhead. It's always been rubbish all along.
Orient were the overachievers last year.3 -
Wrexham's early transfers were relatively "prudent ". Hardie for £700k was a sensible bit of business, for example.
Things have gone mad though in recent weeks. It feels like a bit of panic10 -
And despite what they have spent I believe the Charlton squad is in a much better place than theirs. It’s fair to say the Charlton recruitment team are a step above.killerandflash said:I remember Parky saying that we and Wrexham would be targeting the same players, or words to that effect.

I just find the whole story they've built around them to be utter nonsense. They were spending £300k on Ollie Palmer in Non League, they've never been an underdog the whole time Rob and Ryan have owned them and I find a lot of Parkinson's press stuff completely embarrassing.North Lower Neil said:

Feels like we've got the sensible American owners that just want to sit in the background and not make documentaries.10 -
I’ve always thought a main positive of good ownership is backing the manager but you rarely hear from them. Steve Gibson at Middlesbrough is a good example. I think Charlton luckily have the same.

They have so many strikers now that I can’t even see Hardie getting a game.killerandflash said:Wrexham's early transfers were relatively "prudent ". Hardie for £700k was a sensible bit of business, for example.
Things have gone mad though in recent weeks. It feels like a bit of panicTheir squad must be ridiculously bloated and attack heavy - going to be hard to keep them all happy.Hope it all blows up this season for them.4 -
I don’t see why they are surprised at the slow start. They signed 5 forwards but only one 33 year old defender and no defensive or box to box midfielders. They spent almost one million for Hardie and who might hardly play0

Windass out for 4-6 weeks. Not been a great start for themCAFC_boi said:

I imagine all the recent ex Wednesday players will have had a very poor preseason. Instead they threw Windass straight in.Crispy said:

This is the PFA team of the year, dominated by Birmingham players incidentally, with 7 players. Not surprisingly none of this 11 will be playing in L1 this season.
One each from us (well done Lloyd), Orient (well done Charlie), Posh (Poku) and Wycombe (Kone) and NONE from Wrexham!

James Beadle hasn't gone to Birmingham to be a number 2 after being the Number 1 at Sheffield Wednesday last season on loan from Brighton.
Ryan Allsop was not only the keeper chosen by the PFA but also had the Jersey in the 1st two league Matches in the Championship.
Beadle at 6ft 7in didn't expect to see a ball go over his head when hit from the half way line by Hamer of Sheffield United in the League cup game. He back peddled but it was one of the great goals as most keepers have to take a more advanced position now with the advent of the sweeper keeper.

Also Birmingham are a big club who get almost 30k every home game. i'd argue that Wrexham (along with Oxford) are the smallest club in the division.thenewbie said:

Maybe an outlandish prediction but I think Beadle made the wrong career decision and won’t oust Allsop. He ends up sent out to a relegation threatened club in January/next summer before being sold to a mid table Preston style club the season after0

Not outlandish. He had lost his place to Pierce Charles at Sheffield Wednesday by the end of last season and didn't play the last 9 games there. He will struggle to oust Allsop at Birmingham. It was definitely an odd choice of loan imo.

I'd be surprised if there wasn't other Championship sides who were keen and able to guarantee him being number one. Wonder if Birmingham paid a higher loan fee or more of his wage. Like Beadle but agree he'll struggle to oust Allsop.Athletico Charlton said:fenaddick said:Maybe an outlandish prediction but I think Beadle made the wrong career decision and won’t oust Allsop.
