How the Championship has changed while we’ve been sloshing in L1 - we get promoted, spend over £10m on fees, but the other two promoted clubs will have comfortably spent far more than us.
Can't compare us to those 2 crackpot clubs though IMO, both are bankrolled by media and glamour as much as actual money
Yeah I agree they’re on another level to us in that way, but I don’t think they’ll be the last clubs promoted from L1 who spend that kind of money in the Championship.
Could see Stockport spending big when they get promoted.

Yeah I think the three the year before were probably more representative of what most spend.

Although I'm not sure what they spent!!
  • Are Ipswich the best selling club in the EFL?

To be fair, their spending isn't normal. Last season the 3 promoted sides probably spent less than we have.
  • I think the injury to Moore has forced their hands and meant that've paid well over the top. I'd say he's a £5m player at best.
  • Ipswich bring in £47m in 2 days, with the sales of Broadhead and Hutchinson.

You imagine they'll be doing a lot of business in the next 2 weeks.
  • Middlesbrough agree to take Norwegian midfielder and Football Manager wonder kid Sverre Nypan on loan from Man City. City have just paid £12m for him from Rosenberg.
  • Birmingham must have some incredible midfielders if they're letting Beilik go to West Brom

    Mainly played defence for them

*Over 18, but initially will be in the development squad
  • Latest Not the Top 20 podcast pretty damning of some Wrexham summer transfers.

Said massively over paid for Broadhead (we all know that anyway) and cant see why they would pay £7m and up to £10m.

Also baffled by Ward being there no.1 and that he's already been at fault for goals this season, which they believe Okonkwo would have saved.

I think everyone could see the Broadhead 10m fee was way over the top,  at best currently a 5m player.

What was also very surprising was clearly they had doubts over their first choice keeper but instead of spending a couple of million on a decent challenger they decided on Leicester 3rd choice keeper on a free and made him number 1.

Any promoted club in particular needs a decent keeper as a priority.

I think Wrexham will score goals but look all over the place at the back.
  • Wrexham being linked with Callum Doyle from Man City for £8m.
  • Ipswich bring in £47m in 2 days, with the sales of Broadhead and Hutchinson.

You imagine they'll be doing a lot of business in the next 2 weeks.

They would have spent a lot of money getting from L1 to the PL. One season in the PL will have  increased outgoings, probably considerably. They’ve now lost that PL money bar the parachute payments. If I had to take a guess, I suspect player sales might be funding previous expenditure commitments not new ones.

I never understood how he played so many games for both Arsenal and Liverpool. Decent premiership player but no more. Probably a case of right time right place. Even at his peak wouldn’t stand a chance of getting in either of those teams now.

Arsenal getting about £30m for him from Liverpool was very good business.

Liverpool would argue his contributions to winning the PL and CL represented good business too. He suffered from being a utility player and not being good enough to nail down one position, that and injuries

Looking him up, I'm surprised he's only 32

Doyle is another good Championship player plenty of experience and young enough to grow with them, left footed from memory, but again at £8m they are over-paying, and he's not going to be a difference maker IMO.

It's going to be hard to make them seem like the plucky underdogs again next season on the doc when they are throwing around £30m+

Very very weird to drop Okonkwo for an error prone Danny Ward , wonder how long that will last?
I think Ward is a terrible goalkeeper!
