"An anti-climax for sure. We really didn't create much at all.
I will say this, I know he is hated, but Nathan Jones is a very good manager, and Charlton will be just fine this season".
"For me a draw was the right result, Charlton might even feel slightly disappointed that they didn’t come away with all three points.
We looked slightly more likely to score in the first half, whereas they certainly created much clearer chances in the second half, and we had Vitek to thank on more than one occasion.
On that showing Charlton will certainly hold their own in the championship."
An excellent point and further confirmation we ain’t nobodies mug, even stepping up a level. Draw was probably fair on the balance of it as neither side was able to fashion much by way of clear chances, but it also wouldn’t have been a total injustice if we’d nicked it.
Thought after the first 10 minutes we might be in for a bit of a long afternoon but a few tweaks from the touch line and we settled in and then looked totally at home at this level. Those first 10 minutes showed glimpses of what Bristol City can do if allowed to so the way we shut them down and probably had the better of the second half bodes well for us.
Kane Ramsay, in particular, was close to flawless.
The attacking fluency isn’t quite there yet and Kelman still looked a little lost, but we saw last season that was the final piece of the jigsaw and once it clicked we were near unstoppable. We’re ahead of where we were this time last year and you can see already that Apter, Carey, Knibbs, Olaofe, and a returning Leaburn are all going to add things that we didn’t have in our locker last season. I’m confident Kelman will in time too. Lots to look forward to, from an attacking perspective, once it all settles.
I’m absolutely delighted with how our season has started, as I imagine most of us are.
Two sides fought bloody hard out there this afternoon and in clichéd language, they left it all on the pitch. So much so that both ours and their players dropped to the floor on full-time whistle. Nobody had a bad game from either side. Despite the lack of goals, the effort was immense. Maybe a slight lack in final ball, but both defences brought their A-game today.
Very pleased with a point. If anyone has Jones post match views, please share.
Outstanding. We are looking proper championship. So happy with that performance. We are going to improve as well. Roll on Leicester next week. It's alright this league!
Brilliant team effort - Ramsey, Jones, Bell and Apter were impressive, but I do wonder what Docherty adds to our team. I think it’s a mistake to make him captain, as he is one of our weaker players.
However a huge congrats to Nathan and the team to make us so difficult to beat and of we play like that, we should have no fears about this league.
Fantastic performance . First ten minutes was very nervy but we were the better side in the second half and could have won. The injury to Edwards looked horrible and i fear he'll be out for a while . His knee jarred as his studs got caught in the grass. May have to dip into the market if it's long term.
Yup as everyone has said, Kayne Ramsay was stand out brilliant today.
But the chap who really caught my eye as well as Rob Apter. This guy is also some player - he's fast, direct, can beat players and also puts in some really lovely crosses. And he's obviously got an eye for a goal as well.
He's going to be a real crowd favourite I suspect.
What a tremendous team performance this afternoon !
IMO, Nathan has played a blinder in the close season. Unbelievably good signings - such foresight in recognising the latest recruits could add something else to the squad that gained promotion.
Not one of them looks out of place in the Championship - in fact I'll bet there are a few other managers out there in the same league kicking themselves that they didn't manage to attract the creme de la creme ( that's Welsh for the dog's b*llocks) to strengthen their squads.
Scouting priority for the Recruitment team has to be a replacement for Ramsay. Id be surprised if we let him go until next Summer, but would hate to be in a similar position with Gallagher, where we suffer because we lose one of our best players.
Dont think I've loved a back line so much since the days of Solly, Morrison, Cort and Wiggins... Even Bell has exceeded any expectations that I may have had about him.
Are they HAPPY with mediocrity... Are THEY happy with not winning... There are no Guns firing from this corner of Cornwall on this Saturday evening, Charlton Athletic consider me EXTREMELY disappointed with todays result and performance.
Naaa how can I say such a thing... How could you be mad with the players after that effort and work rate, another 44-games like that and am very confident we'll be playing Championship Football next season, without ever really looking over our shoulders.
(Still no Battleship gif though... Thats reserved for WINNERS!!)
Any chance of a Woolwich ferry gif for a clean sheet draw away from home?
Looking forward to the Leicester game already. Sounds like TC done well but would start either Tanto or Miles. Not cause Kelmans shit I should add but to maybe see if he can impact a game late on like the other lads who have probably earned a start.
Another really strong performance. I wonder if this is the best drilled team since the Curbs era? The communication in defence is excellent, with runners constantly being tracked. I think it’s helped by having a player of Ramsey’s calibre. I would go as far as saying he is our only irreplaceable player (with Lloyd jones a close second).
I do worry about Campbell and Docherty. It’s clear that neither is good enough for this level. Can’t fault their work rate, but they’re going to cost us a game soon. Campbell gives the ball away cheaply too often, and Doherty is mind numbingly predictable. With the ball on the deck, it’s either sideways, backwards or wayward. With the ball in the air it’s a “back to goal swipe and hope”. I’d love to see a player in there who can help us transition from defence to attack, Docherty doesn’t have the ability to do that.
The two results so far prove that this squad is good enough. Take into account how short our pre-season has been and still have players short of match fitness.
My son has never really seen us as a Championship club before. Not since he became Charlton mad.
He doesnt quite know how to handle this. He just said 'Dad we look like a totally normal going-on good Championship side. This feels mad'.
That sums it up to me.
2 games in against 2 solid Champ sides and we look at our level. We have competed at both ends of the pitch, and Apter, Carey, Knibbs and Tanto in particular look solid arrivals.
Gotta say I think Godden would do very well as the starting striker in this team, but thats not to say Kelman wont do a job. Ironically he had a sharp 5 min spell before coming off.
Bell looks a decent add too. And the likes of Jones and Ramsay have stepped up effortlessly.
Worried about Edwards. Looked like a twisted his knee in the turf to me.

Well done and COYRs!!
That was one of Doc best games for us , him and Coventry broke up a lot of Bristol moves and made Vital challenges …

In regards to docherty, there seems a real split in opinion looking at the player marks, I feel he doesn't offer enough with the ball, but defensively holds the team together in the middle. Would like to see more of JRC in his position.
I won't be surprised if Docherty looks a better player in the Championship, because he has to scrap more. Teams sitting back against us in League One, possibly put him in a position where he had to play to a slightly different style.
Also want to shout out the referee... Was disappointed for him (genuinely), as thought for the most part he had a good game, but second half there were about four silly FKs that players on both teams (Edwards am looking at you lol!) did well to convince him.
Started off looking like a long tough afternoon against a side that finished in the playoffs last year, but, we weathered the "storm" and had our moments going forward.
Jones and Ramsay got plenty off blocks in with the latter totally nullifying his man throughout.
Second half and it started much the same but on and around 65mins, also around when Leaburn was introduced, we clearly got forward a lot more, Carey but Apter the standout in attack, some better final balls and finishing and we could have snatched it (as could they)
last 15 mins including stoppage and it was pretty much end to end.
Ramsay or Apter for MOM, far too close to call.

Our players & our Nathan !
Our fantastic away fans !
What a combination !!
"disappointing result, but credit to Charlton.
Ramsey for them probably MOTM with how he tracked and marked Mehmeti"
"Ramsey gave a brilliant performance. Looks a superb player"

Do well in the Championship, and the fee rockets.

Looking at our mini table of who we really should be aiming to finish above:
7. Preston 4
8. Charlton 4
12. Portsmouth 3
17. Hull 1
19. Oxford 0
20. Wrexham 0
22. Derby 0
23. Sheff

Yes, its only 2 games played, but the sooner we distance ourselves and pick up the points before teams "hit top form" the better.
Decent start to life back in the Champ, win at home against a solid Championship side, draw away at a playoff contender.
