On a sunny, but windy day, Charlton travelled to the West Country for their first stern test back in the Championship against a Bristol City side that put four past Sheffield United last week. Bristol City started well but the Addicks made some changes in formation and grew quickly to counter the home side’s attack. The first half was quite even and Charlton impressed at both ends, limiting their patterns of play and then coming close through Tyreece Campbell and forcing saves from their keeper on more than a few occassions. Both sides went into the half without scoring.
The second half started brightly for each side, with both battling back and forth to good . As the half went on Charlton looked the side more likely to score, even though an early opportunity in front of goal saw Bristol City careen one off the crossbar. Charlton looked solid throughout the second half and more than punched their weight in attack.
Rob Apter, who looked knackered as the game came into the final period, caused the home side many problems, particularly when they stopped doubling him as they did throughout the first half. He was able to put in some dangerous balls into the box. Sonny Carey proved a handful too. Charlie Kelman made way for Miles Leaburn, who gave the Bristol City a few new things to think about. His touch and movement almost paid dividends soon after he came on, but the score remained deadlocked. Tanto Olafae and Harvey Knibbs came on to see the game out with fresh legs and provide new attacking threats. Knibbs came closest when he got on the end of a Leaburn ball but their keeper was well positioned to thwart the effort.
I thought it was an outstanding away performance, limiting Bristol City to only a few opportunities and only one shot on target, whilst coming close on a few of our own. Kayne Ramsay was absolutely phenomenal, getting a leg to every threat around him. Bell and Jones also played very well.
Bristol City will wonder where we’ve come from with that performance. Keep playing like that and we’re gonna earn ourselves a healthy reputation.

Two clean sheets in first two championship games is superb!55

Rob Apter and Kayne Ramsay. Not many better right sides in the championship I reckon.56
-
Brilliant result and performance. Ramsay was godlike in defence.14

A well deserved draw and more proof we can hold our own at this level. So well organised and strong defensively. Twine with one wayward shot kind of says all you need to know. Proud of all of them. Our support was top notch throughout too. 👏🏻👏🏻25

I think that's a great result sounded like we more than held our own.4

A clean sheet and a point against fancied opposition. Messrs Brown and Smith purring at the performance. What's not to like.14
-
With earlier subs we could have won that, great effort and point1

Win the home games, draw the away games. The title is still on22

After a very quick scan of a Bristol fans forum I think they were generally impressed with us and actually quite complimentary.31

Brilliant point. Early doors, Bristol looked v good and I was surprised by how accurate everything seemed to be by them. Nut we really grew into the game as our confidence also grew.Kelman had nothing so hard to judge. But it was a really good game in the end.5

We certainly weren’t making up the numbers, we were more than competitive against a team that was where we want to be last season.
And the strength we have in depth must have really surprised the home side. We’ll take some scalps this season, for sure.14 -

Another clean sheet - very impressive.1

Three things for me:
1) Ramsey is superb. That was a complete performance and if he keeps it up he’ll be in the Premier League. Hopefully with us.2) Have we ever signed this many players that look so comfortable and competent? Carey and Apter looked so dangerous and exciting. Bell and Kaminski look assured and classy. Tanto looks a real handful and direct, and Knibbs looks like a leader and late arriver in the box. Just brilliant to see.3) I love this team. For years we haven’t had players who properly graft like these do. Reminds me of Kinsella, Rufus, Robbo & co.Very very exciting.79 -
Fantastic result.
Awesome performance.
Ramsey was superb and gave everything he had, but he was one of many.
A cracking team performance that I am sure has left every fan who saw it proud.9 -
Well deserved point against a good team, certainly better than Watford.
If anything, we got better as the game went on and might have nicked it but a draw was fair.
The finishers brought more energy and threat and it can't be long before Leaburn and Tanto start.
Another clean sheet which is what this team is built on. Bring on Leicester which will be another and different test.

Every upcoming opponent that sees us on their fixture list:
"Oh bollocks, we've got Charlton next week. That absolute defensive unit of a side. They will just wear us out then hit us on the break after we run out of ideas.
How the bloody hell are we going to get in behind them?...sign mo salah on loan or something".13 -
Any Prem league scouts reading this thread, Ramsay was awful.51

2nd day at big school and we seem to be coping just fine.
Unfortunately poor little Wrexham have had their dinner money snatched by a couple of the bigger boys.53 -
Why are people demanding the Battleship gif?
Are they HAPPY with mediocrity... Are THEY happy with not winning... There are no Guns firing from this corner of Cornwall on this Saturday evening, Charlton Athletic consider me EXTREMELY disappointed with todays result and performance.
Naaa how can I say such a thing... How could you be mad with the players after that effort and work rate, another 44-games like that and am very confident we'll be playing Championship Football next season, without ever really looking over our shoulders.
(Still no Battleship gif though... Thats reserved for WINNERS!!)

That was a really good away performance. Very happy with that. Thought Knibbs was gonna nick it for a minute.
Always feel like we’re stronger the longer a game goes on, which is a marked improvement from recent years.Hope Kellmen can get up to speed, otherwise Leaburn, Godden and Olaofe are chomping at the bit.9 -

The back 3 of ramsay, jones and bell absolutely immense. Nothing got past them. Link up between Carey and Apter once again lovely to watch. The step up in quality from league 1 is really apparant, it's going to be a long season with the effort required but we have shown already we are capable. Fitness levels are once again proving critical, we seem to really take over in the last 10-15 mins. If I have to be critical, I would of liked to have seen subs a little earlier, and a little more end product from Docherty and TC. But take nothing away today from a brilliant team performance. Excellent start to the season.10

Really pleased with that point. The longer the game went on I kept waiting for the late goal- but these days I expect us to be scoring it ! After today’s results I think a few Millwall fans might be thinking an easy 3 points might not be coming up after all !2

The VelicoRapter is some player. Keeps it up we will have a 10 mill player on our hands11

Very very proud to be a Charlton fan.Graft, passion and no lack of genuine quality in this side. All the way through it in fact. It’ll be bumpy at times but this is a good squad that can compete at this level.Superb point by a bunch of lads who clearly cherish wearing our shirt.Right back to the booze for me20

Absolutely relishing Leicester next week at home now. We'll be really up for it, and they'll expect to turn up and win.5

They worked there socks off today some excellent performances and I will add Campbell to that who seems to be getting some pelters but he contested alot and was turning them in tight spaces laying the ball off alot.24
